Good API integration and supports various types of data but is very expensive
Pros and Cons
  • "The data structure and the types of data that are supported are very good."
  • "The pricing is quite high."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution as storage for the databases.

What is most valuable?

The API integration with the storage packet is the solution's most valuable feature.

The data structure and the types of data that are supported are very good.

What needs improvement?

The pricing could be improved. It's completely non-competitive at this time.

We have some issues around date/time conversions. It requires a little bit of tweaking to get things done. You can't seem to import a date/time field into SQL.

The solution needs more GUI support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for one year.

Optimized cost solutions boost long-term data retention across multiple regions
Pros and Cons
  • "The best part of Nearline storage is the ability to take backups at optimal costs and its availability across multiple regions."
  • "From a storage standpoint, it would be beneficial if the retrieval cost could be optimized, as it is comparatively higher than storage costs in Nearline."

What is our primary use case?

I mostly use Google Cloud Storage Nearline for backing up data that is not needed for daily activities. It is ideal for files that need to be stored for a minimum of thirty days. I also utilize Nearline for storing large files that come into the Google Cloud Storage area.

What is most valuable?

The best part of Nearline storage is the ability to take backups at optimal costs and its availability across multiple regions. It has 99.99% availability, which is extremely good. It provides an ideal storage solution for data that needs to be kept for thirty days or longer. Each storage class, such as Standard for daily data, Nearline, Coldline, and Archive, serves a specific purpose. Coldline is for ninety days, and Archive is for three hundred and sixty-five days.

What needs improvement?

From a storage standpoint, it would be beneficial if the retrieval cost could be optimized, as it is comparatively higher than storage costs in Nearline.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Google Cloud Storage Nearline for almost the last three to four years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The process does not present difficulties, and I find Google Cloud Storage Nearline to be straightforward to set up.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Nearline is stable with an availability of 99.99%, which is extremely reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not faced any limitations or issues while scaling Nearline up or down.

How are customer service and support?

I have not had any experience with escalating questions to tech support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not worked with any competitors such as Azure or AWS.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process is straightforward and does not take more than ten minutes.

What about the implementation team?

I normally follow the procedure of copying data into the archival directory or storage classes. When required, I copy the data from the storage area into Nearline storage.

What was our ROI?

Depending on the use case, backing up data in Nearline can provide better returns than using the Standard storage class. It is more cost-effective for data that doesn't require daily storage.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The storage and access cost of Nearline are considered optimal compared to other cloud storage solutions, although I lack a clear view of other cloud storage costs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have not evaluated solutions other than Google.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate Google Cloud Storage Nearline as eight out of ten. The solution is beneficial for anyone dealing with infrequent data access needs, ensuring backups at optimal cost and high availability.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Google
