Reliable performance across a large user community and suggest adding new features
Pros and Cons
  • "The features of HPE GreenLake for File Storage that I appreciate the most include stability."
  • "The file system is very stable and it rarely goes down."
  • "Additional features should be included in the next release, though I cannot decide which ones."
  • "Regarding HPE GreenLake for File Storage, it can be improved. Additional features should be included in the next release, though I cannot decide which ones."

What is our primary use case?

My main use cases for HPE GreenLake for File Storage involve having a small cluster of VMware on SSDs, about six machines.

How has it helped my organization?

GreenLake benefits my organization as we have a vast user community, and we have to deploy the VMware.

What is most valuable?

The features of HPE GreenLake for File Storage that I appreciate the most include stability.

Overall, I would assess the effectiveness of the solution when it comes to data-intensive workloads such as AI as beneficial. To increase the efficiency of training the model, if we have something such as local storage where we can build some RAIDs for the users so that they can access at a terabyte level, and then they can do some batch training before saving it to the real file system. That will enhance the efficiency of AI.

It's important for my business that the solution has independent scaling of performance and capacity while our storage system is online. That said, I don't have information about that.

When it comes to managing storage at AI scale, it's a hard question regarding the intuitiveness of the solution's single console. On a larger scale storage, we have an SD and we have GPFS so that the user can access it for training their AI model. We play no part in managing those, so it's up to the users to manage. The solution's scaling abilities affect my operations and business as it refers to the performance of the storage or the file system.

What needs improvement?

Regarding HPE GreenLake for File Storage, it can be improved. Additional features should be included in the next release, though I cannot decide which ones.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using HPE GreenLake for File Storage for around three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would assess the stability and reliability of HPE GreenLake for File Storage as quite stable. So far, I have not experienced any downtime, crashes, or performance issues. The file system is very stable and it rarely goes down. In the past three years, it only went down one time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

With that small file system, we do not perform scaling. We only use that storage. It's not a part of the larger file system at a larger scale.

How are customer service and support?

I would evaluate customer service and technical support as great. I think HP is doing a great job.

On a scale of one to ten, with one being the worst and ten being the best, I would rate customer service and technical support an eight or nine. I rate it this way as I know it cannot be perfect, so I wouldn't give it a ten. Eight or nine is a pretty good score.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to adopting HPE GreenLake for File Storage, I was not using any other solutions which addressed my needs.

What other advice do I have?

I would evaluate the solution's performance for AI and data-intensive front-end caching and data movement between media as tough. We know that it tends to work better with our large cluster. For large storage, we recommend that our users use SSDs to run their batch training model. That will give better performance.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

  • "One of the issues is that sometimes it crashes frequently and experiences slowness."

What is our primary use case?

The main use cases I'm using HPE GreenLake for File Storage for are configuration and centralized management.

How has it helped my organization?

I've been experimenting with the new version that is coming out, and it has extensive analytics for finding issues and bottlenecks, which works really well.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of HPE GreenLake for File Storage for my team are the managed switches and access points. We have about 44-45 locations with a combination of equipment. There are locations that have Aruba, and we have Aruba APs everywhere. When it comes to switches, there are sites that have Aruba switches, while other sites have Cisco and Arista. For configuration, HPE GreenLake for File Storage makes it easier to manage compared to other solutions.

When we're having issues with Wi-Fi, we can easily identify what's occurring. We use the UXI devices, which we implemented a couple of months ago. When experiencing Wi-Fi issues, it indicates if it's related to DNS or network connectivity.

The solution's data reduction technology has reduced our data center power cost significantly, though I cannot specify the exact amount.

Regarding the intuitiveness of HPE GreenLake for File Storage and single console, I don't work with the storage directly. We handle configuration, but it's primarily managed by the system admin network side.

What needs improvement?

One of the issues is that sometimes it crashes frequently and experiences slowness.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using HPE GreenLake for File Storage for about six or seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

When assessing the stability and reliability of HPE GreenLake for File Storage, there are outages occasionally and some slowness. That said, when it functions, it's a good solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't have extensive insight into the scalability as I've only been with the company for about two and a half years, and it hasn't experienced significant growth during that time.

How are customer service and support?

We didn't require any customer service or technical support during deployment as we were able to bring it up independently. However, I have used the support for other matters.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I didn't use HPE GreenLake for File Storage in previous companies. We were using other storage solutions such as Pure.

How was the initial setup?

My experience deploying HPE GreenLake for File Storage has been straightforward. What made it easy is that once it's brought online and added to the licensing, it provides extensive visibility compared to other solutions we've used previously.

What was our ROI?

From what I've heard, it's more cost-effective compared to our previous solution. Regarding performance, it's comparable, if not faster, though I don't work directly with it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing, setup cost, and licensing aspects are handled by the CTO, so I don't have visibility into the numbers. The licensing has been good for our needs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

In previous companies, I didn't use HPE GreenLake for File Storage. We were using other storage solutions such as Pure.

What other advice do I have?

I don't have any insight into the AI with this company. In previous companies, I worked with storage, but here our jobs are very specific. Being in network management, I only provide the network for the storage.

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate HPE GreenLake for File Storage as an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

Handles failures and adapts seamlessly while reducing operational costs

What is our primary use case?

Our current use cases for HPE GreenLake for File Storage include being our main backup storage and main server storage.

What is most valuable?

The feature of HPE GreenLake for File Storage that I appreciate most is that we don't have to do much with it. We stood up our environment a long time ago, and we've got HA redundancy with our controllers, which means we don't have to touch it. The specific features of HPE GreenLake for File Storage have benefited our organization by allowing us to handle a controller failure seamlessly, as the HA has picked up fully with no issues and has been fast; it has never been one of our bottlenecks.

What needs improvement?

One area for improvement would be a unified management console that brings Infosight analytics and GreenLake provisioning into a single interface - so you don’t have to jump between sites. It would also be nice to have more customizable performance and capacity reports within that same portal.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I assess the stability and reliability of the solution as great, having had zero catastrophic outages.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The importance of independent scaling of performance and capacity for our storage system would be fantastic; it's aspirational for us right now as we know our data needs, but we don't know what tomorrow will bring, and having that as an option is valuable.

The reason independent scaling is fantastic for us is that our business has been growing pretty rapidly; we know our storage needs right now, but we also have no idea what 2026, 2027, 2028 will bring. Currently, we don't use any sort of scaling ability, but being able to buy what you need when you need it and only having to pay as you grow is a game changer for our operational costs; it's a money saver.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the customer support a ten, as we've actually been contacted prior to us having to reach out. While there is no specific experience that stands out with the support, we've definitely opened support tickets before, and issues in the past have been resolved quickly and easily. I've worked with colleagues who have filed tickets with support, and generally speaking, they get back quickly, which is the most important thing because when there is an issue, usually it's a big one.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

There were some systems we came off of, including NetApp and some SimpliVity, which also drove us toward the Nimble, but I don't recall the details.

How was the initial setup?

My experience with deploying HPE GreenLake for File Storage was pretty effortless. We were able to migrate easily; it was easy to install, easy to set up, and easy to get everything on it, plus it's been easy to use since.

What was our ROI?

I can't say I've personally calculated a return on investment. For us, versus a return on investment, it's more about the upfront investment, and it has been consistent as we haven't had any problems.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing in our last journey with HPE GreenLake for File Storage was great, as pricing was one of the main factors that brought us to where we were. We have not priced anything out yet for our next jump, but I am looking forward to it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I don't quite recall the other solutions we considered before selecting HPE GreenLake for File Storage as it was a couple of years ago.

What other advice do I have?

Our assessment of the solution's performance for eliminating front-end cache and data movement between media is fantastic; the best part is we don't have to do anything, and it's been reliable and consistent.

Regarding data-intensive workloads such as AI, we're just starting to hit our AI journey, so we haven't really gotten to dig in there yet, but for everything we've done so far, it has been great. We've done very lightweight testing, just dipping our toes in the water.

Regarding the solution's data reduction technology and how it has reduced our data center power costs, I'd really have to look into that more, as I don't know that we've fully analyzed that within our organization. There's really not something I'd want to see added to their offering, as it's running well; we haven't had any issues with it, and contacting support has been easy.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate HPE GreenLake for File Storage a 10.

OPEX model fuels early data-driven transformation with rapid procurement and supply chain acceleration
Pros and Cons
  • "I find the speed and the resiliency of the HPE GreenLake for File Storage to be the most valuable features."
  • "The customer service and technical support are a little challenging, as they need to address many gaps in those areas."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for the HPE GreenLake for File Storage involves running new Chinese block nodes for our non-SAP applications.

What is most valuable?

I find the speed and the resiliency of the HPE GreenLake for File Storage to be the most valuable features. These features have benefited our organization by making us more data-driven early because of our procurement and supply chain, which helps us to do the transactions quickly.

I evaluate the solution's performance for eliminating any front-end cache and data movement between media as good. I would assess the effectiveness of HPE GreenLake for File Storage when it comes to modern data-intensive workloads as not applicable since we haven't used it for that.

The solution's data reduction technology has reduced our data center power costs by approximately 20% to 30%. It is very important for my business that the solution has independent scaling of performance and just capacity for storage systems, as our industry is data-driven, needing TBs of data to be processed.

What needs improvement?

I think HPE GreenLake for File Storage could be improved by working more on the cost-wise aspect since we feel it's quite costly. The customer service and technical support are a little challenging, as they need to address many gaps in those areas.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using HPE GreenLake for File Storage for around a couple of years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scaling abilities have affected our operational business positively; we have been building factories quickly, and that's where we get help, enabling us to expand our business.

How are customer service and support?

They need to address many gaps and there's an area of improvement in those areas. I would rate the customer service as a seven because of attentiveness; I don't see great attentiveness when we run into issues.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to adopting HPE GreenLake for File Storage, I was not using another solution to address similar needs; it was a new setup.

How was the initial setup?

Before selecting the HPE GreenLake for File Storage, we tried buying some storage from Brocade, but we didn't feel it was much more useful or the right choice, so we went with the GreenLake one.

What stood out in my evaluation process, both positive and negative, when comparing these options was that it was good. I would describe my experience with deploying HPE GreenLake for File Storage as good.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with the HPE GreenLake for File Storage.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with the pricing, setup cost, and licensing is good. We may need to involve more, but we have been comfortable. When we use HPE GreenLake for File Storage, we don't need to buy any one as ours is an OPEX model business, which helps us to do things.

What other advice do I have?

I definitely recommend it; it's an OPEX model, and I would ask anyone wanting an OPEX model to go with the GreenLake storage.

On a scale from one to 10, I would rate HPE GreenLake for File Storage as eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Efficiently manages file storage with reliable performance and dedicated support
Pros and Cons
  • "The technical support and customer service with HPE in Colombia is good."
  • "The best features of HPE GreenLake for File Storage are that customers appreciate them because they can make availability of the products through the options of service."
  • "Regarding potential improvements, I don't have these details, however, I suppose there are areas for enhancement."
  • "We have a problem at this moment with the prices when customers want to do the change request; the prices are higher than the customer expects."

What is our primary use case?

We distribute products and in some cases we have to lease Alletra in these products for HPE GreenLake for File Storage. For HPE GreenLake for File Storage, the use case is a surgeon in hospitality. They typically use it for file storage for images because this is health solutions.

What is most valuable?

The best features of HPE GreenLake for File Storage are that customers appreciate them because they can make availability of the products through the options of service.

My impressions of the solution's performance across the entire data footprint are good; the solution is very stable, and we don't receive many cases of problems with the solutions.

In HPE GreenLake, we have an engineer, a technical personnel management, and we feel that this works efficiently since there is always a person that has a GreenLake solution, and they have frequent communication with the end user and with the person in charge of the solution.

What needs improvement?

Regarding potential improvements, I don't have these details, however, I suppose there are areas for enhancement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have had experience with HPE products and other vendors for a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is very stable, and we don't have any cases that report problems with the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have a problem at this moment with the prices when customers want to do the change request; the prices are higher than the customer expects. The customer thinks the prices will be the same as the original GreenLake, and now we are creating a new change request, and the prices are high.

The customer is asking us why we are now giving them a higher price than the initial project, which is the problem when we want to add capacity; the price may change, and the customer has another expectation.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support and customer service with HPE in Colombia is good; however, for GreenLake, people prefer support in Spanish, as sometimes the support is in English. The support with GreenLake is good because we always have an engineer who helps the customer, so if they need support, this person helps the customers find the correct way to get support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I am not sure if they used a different solution before HPE GreenLake for File Storage.

How was the initial setup?

HPE has many tools that help manage the solutions for GreenLake and cloud of other options.

What was our ROI?

Over the years, we don't see reduced costs. Regarding power costs, there is a reduction in the total project with the HPE GreenLake system for the customer.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am familiar with other file and object storage products, and in our company, about two years ago, we sold Hitachi too. That's not similar to HPE GreenLake for File Storage. The main differences between Hitachi and HPE for their file storage are that Hitachi is more focused only on storage. HPE has computing and hyper-converged; Hitachi is more focused only on storage, so they have specific products with other brands, while our solution is more specific and focused on storage.

What other advice do I have?

We need to do some change requests to add compute units. In some cases, the customer needs more than the initial design. Someone from HPE is always checking how the customer consumes and uses the compute units and the storage, so it works efficiently for the customer. Both performance and capacity are important for the customer. When the customer needs more capacity, we have cases where we are requesting more capacity and processing prices for the solution. There are options that the customer can pay as consumption.

Overall, on a scale of one to ten, I would rate the solution as nine; there are always some problems.
