A reliable solution under harsh environmental conditions
The CLI syntax for this solution is different from other switches such as Cisco and Juniper, and it takes us a long time to integrate a new device and get it working properly. We would like to see support for multi-rate features including PoE+ and SSP+. We need PoE+ because we are using the wireless access points, and SSP+ as an uplink. This might add security such as anti-spoofing and packet inspection. We would like to see a local technical support office in Egypt. This would be a credit to Avaya because many people look for vendors who have local support.

VLAN support has improved audiovisual installations and secures network traffic for our projects
Our major use cases include audiovisual installations and we mainly use the AV line for that. We work with the VLAN support feature The best things about NETGEAR Switches are the support they provide and the ease of implementation. The ease of installation helps with network performance. It helps…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The stability of the product is great."
"The redundancy gained by utilizing SMLT has proven itself invaluable during a couple of events that could have been devastating to our bottom line."
"As we are a solution provider and not product oriented, we give the best solution for our customers, with a good price."
"This solution is very reliable and works well under harsh environmental circumstances."
"The initial setup was straightforward. I installed it myself."
"Avaya 4500 series Ethernet Switches provide a large number of features not usually found in other well-known switches."
"The initial setup is easy."
"Its setup, usage, and access are most valuable. It is a very easy switch to set up."
"The tool is crucial in our network setup, especially in our bank's customer service operations. It connects ATMs and links different branches and service centers. Each branch and service center has its network node connected through these switches."
"The remote troubleshooting is pretty easy. You can turn off a port that might have a network loop created, or where there might be a bad NIC card that is creating issues. Being able to turn off that port remotely is fantastic, instead of having to replace the whole switch. Remote management is really easy."
"Remote management is the most important thing for us. And monitoring, of course, allows us to see when something is wrong with a client. We get notified that an access point is down, for instance, or that there are too many clients on one access point, so that we can log into the portal and manage the solution with the client instantly, from either a laptop or a cell phone, with the Insight app."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that Insight is cloud-managed. The whole reason behind it is that there is one central place to manage it. You can pre-configure everything and you can get access to it without having to get onto the client's network. That makes it easy to use and deploy."
"The company provides a lifetime warranty which is the main advantage for us."
"The price to performance of the switches is excellent."

Cons

"One of the problems we found while administering the device was the lack of connecting cable compatibility."
"They could improve in supplying pricing to the VAR in a more timely manner."
"I think there is a need for more support of new generation technologies."
"The CLI syntax for this solution is different from other switches such as Cisco and Juniper, and it takes us a long time to integrate a new device and get it working properly."
"There is a lack of documentation, and the documentation I have is unclear, so I have to rely on Google for information."
"The IGMP specifics of the web management console could use a bit of clarification."
"I'd like to see a little bit of slowdown on the firmware updates. They've been doing a lot of them. I don't know if that's just because it's such a new product line, but the firmware updates have been a little annoying because they've been coming once a week. For a switch, that's a little extreme."
"The main negative thing is the speed. When you use the portal, if you have a lot of customers and locations in the portal, and you need to scroll through those clients or those locations, it takes a pretty long time to load those pages and to select the client. That's the problem in the portal on the laptop, and it's the same problem in the portal on the app."
"It's worked for the most part, but we've had to power cycle a few devices. We've had to ask customers to manually power cycle them with the power cord, after some of the firmware updates. Their updating needs a little improvement."
"Traffic management capability should have been a plus."
"The solution needs centralized management and centralized configuration."
"NETGEAR Switches could provide local technical support services."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Another issue, when it comes to NETGEAR's competitors, is that other companies are offering the cloud management at no extra charge, whereas NETGEAR charges for it. You have to pay per-device for licenses."
"For the price, they're good. If you look at Ubiquity switches (which have cloud features too) or even the regular NETGEAR GS switches, these are still price-competitive and come with the cloud features, which is just amazing."
"NETGEAR's new product is definitely more expensive than their standard product line. It's a new product line for them, so I'm hoping with the maturity of the product that those costs will come down. The standard product line is considerably cheaper."
"This is a one-time purchase and there are no licensing fees."
"NETGEAR Switches can be considered a big brand, so its pricing point is a bit higher than that of some of the other players in the market."
"Compared to other large names in the marketplace, the price of NETGEAR's product is extremely cost-effective compared to what Cisco or Extreme offer."
"I believe that the pricing is reasonable."
"I would rate the tool's pricing a nine out of ten."
