Provides strong detection capabilities but requires improvements in parsing and stability
I cannot think of any specific features that LogRhythm SIEM can improve upon since it supports a wide variety of major vendors. However, they need to improve their parsing techniques; the tool should understand various devices and present data in a human-readable format. For example, if a personal Android mobile needs to be integrated, LogRhythm SIEM should be able to parse that data effectively. They also need to improve their database of supported devices to cover smaller vendors alongside the major players, allowing for better global reach and usability. I have noticed some problems with parsing errors, event mismatches, and data mismatching, so ensuring accurate parsing and continuous improvement according to device updates are my basic expectations as a detection engineer.

Transforms logs for real-time insights and seamless reporting
Logstash is used for transforming logs, and you can use many plugins in Logstash. Logstash works with configuration files that contain three main parts: an input part, a filter part, and an output part. In the input part, we can take logs from many sources such as Beats, files, or Kafka. The filter part is used to filter the logs that are shipped from Beats. From my understanding and experience with Logstash, it is usually used for processing logic, meaning I can control what fields should be transferred to Elastic and what fields shouldn't be transferred. This is the main function I use Logstash for. Elastic is a famous open-source searching engine that helps operation teams speed up the investigation process and provides real-time insights for performance reporting.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It’s a very powerful and robust device and application."
"LogRhythm's GUI is easy to explore. We also like other features, such as its integration with other security solutions, log correlation, and the deployment of use cases."
"LogRhythm meets our problem statement, as a solution."
"It has definitely improved our security program's maturity, because we have visibility that we didn't have before."
"LogRhythm has increased productivity because all the tools that we need are in the web UI, allowing us to find threats on our network fast and efficiently."
"The most valuable feature I get out of the LogRhythm platform is being able to take machine data and present it in a format that's easy to understand, easy to analyze, easy to pivot through to get answers to the questions that I had that I'm investigating, whether they're security related or operationally related."
"What I found most helpful out of it is the ability to see all of the same data, that I would get from my appliances, in one place."
"Now, the SOC have custom dashboards, showing them a lot more useful information, puts the information in context, and they are actively using it for proactive investigations, rather than just responding to alarms."
"The functionality of Logstash is quite easy to implement and the plugin ecosystem of Logstash is great, with plugins for shell script monitoring and SQL monitoring working well with the tool."
"We have three or four Logstash servers for high availability."
"Everything aligns well with improving our organization."
"I can collect logs from various data sources, including hardware."
"The transformation means we ship the logs in the way that we want them to be presented in Kibana, which is the main function we use Logstash for."
"Logstash has numerous plugins for inputs and outputs, allowing it to work well in environments that do not contain other Elastic components."

Cons

"The customer support system is time-consuming."
"In the next release, I would certainly like to see more HIPAA compliance. I would also like to see more integration with Palo Alto Networks, particularly their Traps, which is their endpoint solution."
"In terms of the product, what really needs to improve are the metrics that you can get from it."
"The reporting engine is poor in comparison to other areas. It should be moved to the web interface to improve its functionality and usability."
"The responses provided by the cloud team are inefficient."
"Definitely expansion on log parsing. There are some obscure log sources that we don't currently have parsers for."
"We have to use tech support pretty regularly and it is sometimes not very good."
"It is a product that is very hard to use."
"Almost all the research can be very bad. We still have a problem with importing the log system."
"We still have a problem with importing the log system."
"The product needs to improve its compatibility."
"An enhancement we could implement is the ability to cluster Logstash to exist in more than one node."
"Elastic does not provide proper support for Logstash worldwide, and I rate their technical support as one out of ten."
"There can be a UI to implement with Logstash. Currently, I have to work with config files and everything."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would recommend talking to the rep. That's the biggest thing because they will know what questions to ask."
"Everything is expensive with LogRhythm, and you don't get anything for free."
"It is a very cost-effective solution."
"The nice thing about LogRhythm is you can either use the agents, getting a certain number of agents with your license depending on how you want to go, and those agents do a lot of cool things, or you can use CIS Log host, then you have like an unlimited number of them."
"I would rate the tool's pricing around eight out of ten."
"The pricing is very reasonable and accessible compared to other products in the market but I am not very sure about the exact licensing cost per year for our company."
"When it comes time to renew, they say, "This is what you are using. This is what we can do for you." So, they work with you on pricing."
"I would recommend that whatever sales quotes to them upfront, they will probably go up. Because they are probably going to outgrow that very quickly or once they start getting everything into it, they are going to have to move up anyway."
