Dell PowerEdge C- Series Reviews

Before we deploy any solution for our customers we always keep in mind the requirements and select the features that are in line with VMware’s technology. For example we have chosen a Dell solution based on one customer specific needs and budget. This involves collaborating with Dell and VMware in order to get all the necessary licence. At the same time, we have also opted for the PowerEdge blade series which helps us in consolidating workloads and maximising output power. Our main use is to select solutions that fit the requirements of the customers while ensuring full support from Dell and maintaining confidentiality.

We have realised that instead of purchasing multiple servers with fewer cores, opting for higher series with more cores is a viable option that has been held to reduce the footprint in our data centre. This has also helped in generating green data centres and requires less cooling and maintenance.

The PowerEdge series has a powerful feature for remote server management called the iDRAC feature.

With the tool, we can easily upgrade and ensure compatibility between operating systems, hardwares and drivers. Among other features, the hardware also stands out because it is certified and aligns with the processor manufacturers like Intel. This enables them to offer the latest options which are not available with other suppliers. 

There has been an increase in quality issues.

I have been using PowerEdge C for the past 3 years.

It is indeed, very stable.

It is satisfactory for our users and we don’t have any issues in scaling the same.

Deployment of the solution typically takes one day for physical setup and connection without virtualization. For more complex setups like the DXL stack, it may take around 3-4 hours to bring everything online. I would rate it 9 out of 10, as it is very simple to set up.

 I would rate the pricing a 4 out of 10.

Overall, I would rate the solution 8 out of 10. I would recommend it but it is not free. We have been using it as a part of our proposals and promotions for all the customers.

PowerEdge C has a moderate pricing, which makes it come across as an optimized product for our company's clients' budget. If our clients have enough budget, then the product can be scaled up, including its performance, storage, and memory, making it a high computing type of server. If our company's clients have a low budget, we customize the tool to retain the flexibility of PowerEdge C, which is one of the use cases I recommend to others. The product's moderate pricing allows for the optimization of the solution based on our company's clients' requirements. PowerEdge C is usually deployed in the banking sector, public sector, multinationals, and telecom sector, and the product can be recommended to different institutions based on their requirements due to the flexibility to meet the requests of our company's clients.

The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that the product is not pricey. Dell and VMware produce the product with heavy integration capabilities, making it easy to manage the deployment while also being easy to use with other different HCI solutions, where the management part is easy. In general, I recommend it to others since it is easy to use, offers flexibility, and is easy to manage.

Nowadays, the product has started to become a bit expensive in the market, at a time when Nutanix offers virtualization software, which is even cheaper when compared to VMware. In order to penetrate into the market, the pricing of servers like PowerEdge C and other HCI solutions should be lower. Price-wise, I would want to see the product offer more flexibility. The hypervisor offered by ESXi is not compatible with different types of hypervisors. In the case of Nutanix AHV, the hypervisor is compatible with the other types of hypervisors. The aforementioned aspects need to be considered for improvement in the product to achieve high scalability.

There is some trouble with the stability part of the product, making it an area where improvements are required.

The scalability of the product is good since it offers high performance and capacity.

I am unsure about the number of my company's customers using the solution.

In total, there are around 200 people in my company, but to manage the server and to take care of the areas that revolve around the server, which includes increasing the server storage size or aspects related to SaaS or cloud solutions, there are around 15 members, consisting of solution engineers and deployment engineers, who take care of both, the pre-sales part and the solution's deployment part.

As the support for the product is available on-site, we did not face any problems with the technical team.

The product's initial setup phase is easy, especially considering the virtualization capabilities it offers.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model. My company has also dealt with cloud-based servers, such as Dell VCS. If our company's clients want the solution deployed on the cloud, then we are able to do it for them.

The deployment process of the solution is not complex in my experience, and it is very easy to understand.

During the deployment phase, the operating system is not incorporated with the servers. The first thing we do is deploy the type of operating system our company's clients want. Our company usually deploys the servers in an environment, after which we deploy an operating system on it. If our company's clients also want a virtualization concept, we also refer to the ESXi or any kind of software for virtualization on the server.

In my company, around eight to nine teams are involved with the deployment phase of the product.

From an ROI perspective, the product is good.

There is a need to pay towards the annual subscription-based licensing model offered by the solution. The product is moderately priced. Price is a critical issue, and it is always good to have moderately priced solutions.

PowerEdge C is good if someone wants a high-performing product but is moderately priced.

I rate the overall tool a nine out of ten.

PowerEdge is a server from Dell, and we use these servers primarily for our customers for installation, processing, and in the server class and data center.

PowerEdge serves as the server solution for installations and processing in our data center. It provides the necessary infrastructure for our operations.

Cost is an important factor needing improvement. The pricing of PowerEdge solutions is very high nowadays. 

Additionally, technical support requires improvement as there can be delays and challenges when support personnel are required to resolve issues on-site.

We have been working with PowerEdge for about ten years.

I rate the stability of PowerEdge at nine on a scale from one to ten.

The scalability of PowerEdge is good. I rate it at eight on a scale from one to ten.

Technical support is somewhere around six or seven on a scale from one to ten. The challenge is that support is not always immediately available, particularly if the customer site lacks necessary identification or is at a branch location. This requires our IT staff to execute remote instructions, presenting difficulties.

The initial setup of PowerEdge was pretty straightforward.

I have not calculated ROI for PowerEdge, so it is difficult for me to say.

PowerEdge is quite a costly solution, and I would rate the pricing around seven or eight on a scale from one to ten with ten being the most expensive.

I would recommend PowerEdge to others, but only if the pricing and support issues are addressed. 

Overall, I rate the solution a seven on a scale from one to ten.

For workloads, we use four to six TB of storage and two network configurations. We use it remotely. 

We only changed the make and model of the server. The use cases are the same for all purposes because we are a product-based company. We have our own product which we provide to the customer. That means a specific product for the specific business. So the use case is the same in all the cases.

The next release would be configured for the new server. For that, the service could be upgraded.

We have been using it recently, but we used it earlier in 2008 and 2009. After a long gap, we started using it again about a year ago.

I would rate the stability a ten out of ten. The reliability and performance is good. 

It's much more flexible. It feels better. It's scalable.

The support was good. 

It was not complex to deploy. There was just something to think about in the initial setup. Once it is understood, it is not difficult. They have their own concept of configuration.

The architecture is good. It is fast processing. It is good for the filing services. It is faster.

Licensing is okay for our basic usage. It was enough for us. 

Overall, I would rate it a nine out of ten. I can recommend it to others for any type of setup. 

In our company, we run Python on top of PowerEdge C server. My company optimizes PowerEdge C to provide Python features or capabilities to our customers.

The most valuable feature of the solution is the hardware resiliency it offers. The product also offers iDRAC software that helps users manage PowerEdge C in a simpler manner.

The need to update the firmware and check if there is any bug in the product is one of the areas where Dell PowerEdge C falls short and needs to make improvements.

I have been using PowerEdge C for a year or two. I use the solution's latest version.

It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

The product's scalability is high.

The time required to deploy the solution depends on the requirements of its users. Getting the power on takes several hours, but if PowerEdge C's deployment involves more complexities, it may take a day or two to complete the deployment process.

PowerEdge C is a product that is priced at a medium range, so it is not too expensive.

I rate the overall tool a ten out of ten.

We use the solution with VMware. We also use it with independent servers. Our servers run on it.

The product life is good compared to any other product. The performance depends on the configuration we buy. Every new version is better than the previous one.

The price must be improved.

I have been using the solution for ten years.

The product is stable.

The product is scalable. We have 150 users in our organization.

The support is fine.

The setup is very easy. It is not very complicated. We must set up RAID. We just buy the tool, configure it, and use it. The number of people we need for deployment and maintenance depends on each project.

If we have complex projects, we take help from third-party consultants. Otherwise, we do it ourselves.

The product is not very expensive, but it could be made more economical. It is a one-time purchase.

I will recommend the solution to others. Overall, I rate the product a seven or eight out of ten.

I use the solution 24/7 for my routine work for voice service.

The product has high performance and no downtime.

The product’s pricing could be a little cheaper.

PowerEdge C is used in both corporate and industrial settings.

One of the main features that attract customers to buy their products is the great management tool and almost zero failure rate, making it easy to use.

As far as I'm concerned, the current product works perfectly fine and I don't see any issues with it. The newer products may have additional features, but for my current needs, the current product is more than sufficient and I don't think it requires any enhancements.

Technical support is very good.

They offer round-the-clock technical support, and we have many other resources available as well since we are the top-ranked provider. Our resources include pre-sales support and a team of technical staff based in India.

We work with Microsoft. We partner with Dell and HP.

We are a provider of Dell enterprise solutions, including servers, storage, as well as commercial laptops and desktops.

The initial setup is straightforward.

The deployment process took approximately one hour.

Despite the slightly higher price, we prefer Dell due to the high quality of their products.

HP is a little bit lower in terms of price.

Customers may have additional requirements and may need to purchase licenses for certain features to use with this infrastructure. These licenses are typically bundled with our solution.

We are recommending Dell.

I would rate PowerEdge C a ten out of ten.

We use PowerEdge C for microcredit service, application servers, database servers, and report servers.

The solution provides good support and service. PowerEdge C has a dual socket on the server.

The solution’s pricing could be cheaper.

I have been using PowerEdge C for eight years.

I rate the solution an eight out of ten for stability.

The solution provides good scalability and performance. We have around 1,000 customers for PowerEdge C.

The solution’s technical support is very good. Once, our server's motherboard was not responding, and Dell replaced the motherboard within ten days.

The solution’s initial setup is very easy.

It took around two to three days for me to deploy the solution.

I would recommend PowerEdge C to other users because it is stable and reliable.

Overall, I rate the solution ten out of ten.

The product’s cost needs improvement. The cloud solutions are less expensive than this hardware-based platform.
