One of the most stable products with a straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
  • "The hybrid solution is much more stable than other products."
  • "It would be better if the solution provided simplified storage and hardware with an integrated one-tier architecture."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product to incorporate infrastructure for our virtualized environment.

What is most valuable?

The hybrid solution is much more stable than other products.

What needs improvement?

CMC needs different storage in the blade server, like a three-tier architecture. It would be better if the solution provided simplified storage and hardware with an integrated one-tier architecture.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution’s stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The modular part of the product is scalable, but the storage is not scalable. I am the only person using the product in the organization.

How are customer service and support?

Earlier, the technical support was from the UK or the US. There used to be a good flow to the technical support. Nowadays, they revert our calls to countries like India and the Philippines, where the technical support is not as good.

Five years ago, we could get a specialized guy to handle everything. When we open a case for the hardware now, the support personnel pushes the technical person to get the job done rather than help us troubleshoot.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

It took us almost one week to implement the solution. The vendors sent a specialist to configure the hardware on the back end. After that, they gave us some pointers, and we housed every piece of hardware.

While deploying the solution, we must check the licensing to understand where to install the application. We can configure the solution if we have little knowledge about it.

What other advice do I have?

I don't have any issues with the hardware. We provide the scope and specifications to the procurement team. The decision to choose a product is made based on the proposal provided by the vendor to the procurement department.

If the product suits their need, people should use it. If they’re looking for a new technology to simplify their duties and responsibilities, it would be better if they choose a hypervisor. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Compact with an easy initial setup and good preformance
Pros and Cons
  • "Technical support has been helpful."
  • "The reliability needs improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for supporting our internal applications.

How has it helped my organization?

So far, the product has made us more efficient in terms of energy usage and space usage utilization.

What is most valuable?

It does basically everything that we need it to do.

The compactness of the solution is its most valuable aspect.

We found the initial setup to be straightforward.

The solution is stable. We haven't had any issues.

It is possible to scale the solution.

Technical support has been helpful.

What needs improvement?

The reliability needs improvement. We have had some issues.

The issue is that Dell's no longer selling this product in the near future. It's almost the end of life.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution since 2018.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been good. We haven't dealt with any bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

While it is scalable, we haven't had the need to do so just yet.

We're a construction company and we have about 60 users at this time. That includes project managers.

Right now, it's probably running at 60% capacity. We're not going to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been good. We are satisfied with the level of service on offer.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We're currently looking at refreshing the hardware.

We had Dell rack-mount servers previously. We switched for space utilization.

EMC is our storage. That's not the Blades. The storage is the Unity box that we have.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and not overly difficult. It's a simple process.

The deployment is fast. It took us over a weekend.

We had two personnel that handled deployment and maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the implementation process ourselves. We did not need any integrators or consultants.

What was our ROI?

In terms of ROI, it's performed and done what we expected for the price that we paid.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay a yearly licensing fee. It's comparable to others on the market.

There are not any other additional costs other than the licensing fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate other options.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We're pretty happy with its capabilities.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A user-friendly server with good performance
    Pros and Cons
    • "PowerEdge C is the best server I have worked with. I like that it's user-friendly. PowerEdge C performs very well."
    • "It would be better if it worked with SMTP servers on the cloud. Right now, it only allows notifications via the SMTP server. In the next release, I would like to have a better processor."

What is our primary use case?

I use PowerEdge C for our clients. Our clients need new servers, and I configure them based on their needs. When the clients buy the server from us, the configuration on-site depends on their needs. It might be a basic configuration or an advanced configuration.

    What is most valuable?

PowerEdge C is the best server I have worked with. I like that it's user-friendly. PowerEdge C performs very well.

    What needs improvement?

It would be better if it worked with SMTP servers on the cloud. Right now, it only allows notifications via the SMTP server. In the next release, I would like to have a better processor.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using PowerEdge C for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

PowerEdge C is a stable solution.

On a scale from one to five, I would give PowerEdge C's stability a four.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PowerEdge C's scalability depends on the client's architecture. It also depends on the manufacturer.

How are customer service and support?

On a scale from one to five, I would give technical support a four.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with HP, and I can see the difference quickly. PowerEdge C performs very well.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup depends on the needs of the client. It will be straightforward if it's a rack mounted server or something similar. It will be easy to find the architecture of implementation on the rack. For rack mounting, it takes me about 15 to 20 minutes to implement this solution. It will take more time to implement if it's something like an iDRAC configuration, installation of the operating system, some other configuration, or virtualization.

    What about the implementation team?

    I implemented this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost depends on the configuration.

What other advice do I have?

A high-performing computing solution for applications and databases with excellent configuration
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most significant benefits, in my experience, are the configuration, reliability of the equipment, and the support of Dell."
    • "For improvements, the iDRAC application isn't very intuitive to handle."

What is our primary use case?

We use PowerEdge C for applications and databases. It's primarily for high-performance computing tasks. We do not use it for scoring and the company's high performance anymore.

    What is most valuable?

The most significant benefits, in my experience, are the configuration, reliability of the equipment, and the support of Dell. We had a migration of some applications and needed to change the architecture from Spark to x86. We were concerned about the application's stability after the migration, but PowerEdge C delivered stability and availability for our applications. The migration was very transparent, and the automation was seamless.

    What needs improvement?

For improvements, the iDRAC application isn't very intuitive to handle. We have it deployed on-premises.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with PowerEdge C.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    A very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

PowerEdge C's scalability depends on how we use it. We use it in bare metal, not virtualization, which limits its scalability.

How are customer service and support?

    The support team is excellent.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

    How was the initial setup?

Regarding the initial setup, configuring Dell PowerEdge C and setting it up initially takes about five hours, including working on initial configurations and remote access. We haven't faced any challenges with deployment and don't have a specific strategy for it. General maintenance isn't complex, and it doesn't require a lot of resources. We have systems in place in our data center to reduce maintenance needs. Sometimes, we face common issues like disk or memory failures, which are manageable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't handle the financial aspects, so I don't know the exact costs, but in terms of the value it brings, it's worth it.

What other advice do I have?

The benefits are significant, so we prefer PowerEdge C over other equipment. It might have a higher cost, but it effectively meets our specifications and application needs. The support from the branch and the availability andstability of the hardware makes it very easy to configure, change, and manage. We're delighted with it. Overall, I would give PowerEdge C a ten.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

The management is excellent and also very straightforward.

The security of the product is very good.

We found the pricing to be quite fair. It's not overly expensive.

The upgrades for the solution are very good. It continues to add useful features to the product with every new release.

    What needs improvement?

Overall, it offers a lot of good features for the industry. I don't recall any that are lacking per se.

We had a few minor issues with compatibility on the latest version during the installation process.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for eight to ten years at this point. It's been almost a decade. I've used it for quite a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is quite stable. We don't have issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's quite good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution scales very well. If a company needs to expand it, they can do so easily.

The organizations we work with vary in size and it scales to meet any organization's needs. Some have thousands of users, for example.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been very knowledgeable and responsive. They're good. We're satisfied with the level of service they provide us.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

    How was the initial setup?

The setup is pretty straightforward. It's not overly complex in any way. The product's servers are easy to install. You can install it easily on VMware if you want to.

There were a few minor issues with compatibility, however, other than that, it was a good experience.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost of the solution is reasonable. It's a good selling point for Dell. They keep it competitive.

What other advice do I have?

We're Dell partners. We have a business relationship with the company.

We're using almost the entire series. We use a variety of versions of the solution.

Overall, I would rate it at a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
