With this solution, the device control is more reliable and more stable. We even use it for our email policies, but we are mainly using it in our environment for device protection policies. We are controlling almost all types of devices, like USB and CD-ROM devices, imaging devices, and even cameras. So we are basically able to control everything in our environment.
The device control is more reliable and more stable but the interface is not easy for administrators
Pros and Cons
- "With this solution, the device control is more reliable and more stable."
- "The solution should be more user-friendly."
What is most valuable?
What needs improvement?
If you compare this solution with next-generation products like CrowdStrike, you will find that it should be easier to work on and therefore more user-friendly. With this solution, data protection is not straightforward. So McAfee should focus more on ease of management and user-friendliness.
I would also like to have an option to migrate from the old environment to the new, graphical environment. The interface itself is not easy for administrators because they have to check everything. The integration of AD users in the DLP can also improve as well as taking reports. For instance, if a user wants information on the kind of report in the DLP, I can currently not look at it. I need to get a proper DLP report.
Also, if my management is asking a report, I must be able to tell how many users' USB is blocked. Right now I am not able to see what policy I implemented and how many users I have. Those are the basic things that McAfee should improve during the migration process. It should be straightforward.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using McAfee Complete Data Protection for more than ten years now on premise.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I believe it is scalable but there is always room for improvement. I like the ease of management and you can add the how-to, create a policy, and make new sections. I prefer CrowdStrike's device control when it comes to email policies because it is more straightforward. I believe it is because everything is moving towards the Cloud now. I'm not saying that McAfee is not going to the Cloud, but the product can be more advanced. I still personally feel that, even for a small-sized company, mid-sized company, or even a company with more than 2000, 5000 users, this product is really good.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support of McAfee is good and that is why we use McAfee products. The support and protection is very prompt.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy and straightforward and we didn't experience any complications. What I like, is that the data is basically integrated with McAfee so you can use the afim interface for integration. It is straightforward to implement your DLP with the afim server.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We use Email Gateway, but now we use a couple of McAfee products like the antivirus and DLP.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others who are looking for a DLP solution, a data protection solution, would be to go for it. Along with the antivirus protection, I would definitely suggest the company to go for the next generation in antivirus or EDR or sensing technology which is currently more available in the market. There is more, newer technology on the market today. And antivirus properties of McAfee technology, like scanning the viruses and things like that, is more traditional, conventional technology. I will not say to go ahead with the antivirus, but McAfee's DLP data protection is still very good and it is one of the stable solutions on the market. I will rate it a seven out of ten.

CEO at OmniNet Systems
Good compliance and accepted standards but requires more stability
Pros and Cons
- "It is part of the DLP and works well for that use case."
- "They could be better in terms of Complete Data Protection."
What is our primary use case?
It can be used for all mobile works laptops, which are more susceptible to data loss. Or it can be used for file servers where you put your file servers on the cloud, and so the data addresses and transit are encrypted.
What is most valuable?
They offer very good accepted standards. The solution is compliant and offers good support. They offer pretty good security due to their standards compliance.
It is part of the DLP and works well for that use case.
What needs improvement?
They could be better in terms of Complete Data Protection. There are a lot of components that get involved there.
I would like to see a bit more stability.
The initial setup process could be simpler.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for the last four years or so.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I haven't used it much, and therefore cannot speak to the overall stability, although I would like it to be more stable in general. We've faced problems on and off.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Having not used it very much, I have never tried to scale the product.
How was the initial setup?
It is a complicated initial implementation process. The implementation is not straightforward. My File and Folder protection take at least two days to three days to fix and deploy. To get all the end-users on, it might take three or so days.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You do need to purchase a license in order to use the solution.
What other advice do I have?
It is a pretty good product. Overall, I would rate it a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Senior Technical Team Lead at Foresight Software Solutions Pvt Ltd
Scans and protects data-at-rest
Pros and Cons
- "With respect to data loss prevention, I think it is helpful to the customer."
- "There are some features that do not work with Mac."
What is our primary use case?
We have huge clients, like Toshiba, Bangalore International Airport, Viacom, and other companies.
What is most valuable?
With respect to data loss prevention, I think it is helpful to the customer; except for a few limitations with Mac.
What needs improvement?
The full set of features are enabled only for Windows. There are some features that do not work with Mac. With respect to device control, it can be quite limited for Mac.
With Mac, we experience problems with post-related issues, with the device controller, and with email-related listings. Network communication is another thing. Certain rules just do not work for our Mac environments.
The security could also be improved when it comes to Mac. Most of our customers ask for these features. They want these same features for their Mac devices. We're just hosts — it's up to McAfee to provide these features.
They should also offer encryption and device control for Linux.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been reselling McAfee Complete Data Protection for seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
McAfee Complete Data Protection is both stable and scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is good. It's easy for us to reach support whenever we experience any issues. They put us right through to human beings — we don't have to converse with a robot first.
How was the initial setup?
This solution is easy to deploy and maintain.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
McAfee Complete Data Protection is a little bit expensive. The price could be lower. In regard to data loss prevention, we have different licensing.
What other advice do I have?
We need to check a customer's environment and infrastructure before recommending this solution. Based on that, we can then decide on the type of setup they'll require. Later on, when their new environment increases, they're able to scale up easily.
On a scale from one to ten, I would give McAfee Complete Data Protection a rating of nine.

User-friendly, support is always available, and it is the best product for GDPR compliance
Pros and Cons
- "The interface is user-friendly and it provides a large number of options."
- "There was an option for SQL setup in the older versions of this product and it has been removed, but we would like to see it made available as an add-on."
What is our primary use case?
We are system integrators who do the implementation and provide support for a variety of products. One of our main areas of focus is endpoint security, along with data loss prevention, encryption, and web security.
McAfee Complete Data Protection is one of the security solutions that we implement for our customers. It is the best match for GDPR compliance.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are data loss prevention and encryption.
The interface is user-friendly and it provides a large number of options.
The support services from McAfee are freely available at any point in time.
Of of the features that I like the best is document tagging, where the user can specify attributes such as confidential.
The encryption group feature will ensure that the system is compatible. If everything is fine then encryption will begin. However, if there is an incompatibility then the encryption will be halted.
What needs improvement?
There is a feature called manual classification that is not intuitive to use and can be improved.
There was an option for SQL setup in the older versions of this product and it has been removed, but we would like to see it made available as an add-on.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with this product for approximately 12 years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, this solution is very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have experience with a lot of products from different vendors including Symantec and Microsoft. I find the other products are more complicated than McAfee.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward and easy to do. One or two policies have to be created and then it is ready for deployment. It can all be done within an hour.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is better than that of some competing products.
What other advice do I have?
McAfee Complete Data Protection is the best product on the market and I recommend it. It is very simple and anyone can easily understand it.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Unified management console and scales well, but we need more granular control over the policies
Pros and Cons
- "The console allows us to manage not only endpoint protection, but DLP, and also integration with MVISION Cloud."
- "We are looking for more granular control over the policies."
What is our primary use case?
We are a solution provider and this is one of the security products that we implement for our clients. I focus primarily on data protection and data loss prevention solutions, and in this role, I work with McAfee Complete Data Protection a lot. We also use it for encryption.
A simple use case would be keywords and reject detection.
Other reasons that we use it are for PII and PCI compliance.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the unified management console, ePO. The console allows us to manage not only endpoint protection, but DLP, and also integration with MVISION Cloud.
What needs improvement?
We are looking for more granular control over the policies. McAfee has some challenges in this regard.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with McAfee Complete Data Protection
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are some challenges with stability when you want to fine-tune the granularity. When it is too generic, you get a lot of false-positive errors.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I don't think that McAfee has any scalability-related issues because they deal with a lot of enterprise companies.
Our clients are typically the public sector, although we have a lot of large, enterprise customers as well.
How are customer service and technical support?
The most important thing is how they enable our team. They provide us with good support during the pre-sales stages.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup for McAfee is straightforward, and not very complex. The fine-tuning, however, takes time.
What other advice do I have?
We can see that a lot of things are moving to the cloud, and I want to see more cloud solutions and more integration where we can make use of them. As time goes on, we can see that there are more customers on the cloud.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

User-friendly, easy to set up, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "Technical support is very helpful."
- "There are compatibility issues with the Chrome browser."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily provide services to our clients.
Clients usually use the solution mainly to audit GDPR compliance. As for the audit, they need to meet their compliance, the PCI DSS compliance, and GDPR compliance. Based on that they procure the DLP solution.
What is most valuable?
The classification front-end and the features for the endpoint are great aspects of the product.
It works absolutely fine for the customer requirements.
It's user-friendly and easy to navigate.
The initial setup is very easy.
Technical support is very helpful.
The stability is good.
The product can scale.
What needs improvement?
There are compatibility issues with the Chrome browser. The DLP works absolutely fine with the internet and the Firefox browser, however, it doesn't support Chrome. That's the only drawback of the DLP. Even if there is a new patch released in Chrome, McAfee DLP doesn't support it.
There are a lot of incidents that are being captured and there is no option for deleting the older incidents from the console. However, if you want to treat that incident, then I think there is some task that has to be done and it doesn't work in the right way. We had to run some more subscriptions this year to reduce the incidents.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for around ten years or so. Maybe even longer. It's been a long time.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability at an eight out of ten. It's pretty reliable. There aren't really any bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is okay. I would rate it at an eight out of ten.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is absolutely fine. I have very good friends in support. Most of the time, most of my friends are working there, and I get connected with them. There aren't any problems. I'm quite satisfied with their level of knowledge and helpfulness.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. It's very simple to deploy. It's just in a matter of five to ten minutes of checking out everything. On top of that, policies can be configured within 30 to 40 minutes. In that time, everything can be set up.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is reasonable. Of course, it could always technically be cheaper, however, as a company that is a systems integrator, we tend to get more margin.
What other advice do I have?
We are service providers, not customers. We're a platinum partner.
I'd recommend the solution to other companies. It's more than just an antivirus. It helps with compliance.
However, I would advise a company that is considering buying it to understand what it can do and how it works in order to ensure it meets the needs of the organization.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We're mostly quite satisfied with its capabilities.
