Customizable, integrates well, and reliable
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features of Talend Open Studio are customization and integration."
- "Talend Open Studio has a lot of capabilities, but there is some restriction. For example, if we want to connect to an SAP system, Open Studio cannot do it. We need to go with an enterprise version. Additionally, the monitoring features could improve."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of Talend Open Studio are customization and integration.
What needs improvement?
Talend Open Studio has a lot of capabilities, but there is some restriction. For example, if we want to connect to an SAP system, Open Studio cannot do it. We need to go with an enterprise version. Additionally, the monitoring features could improve.
In the next release of the solution, there should be some sort of reporting. If you compare Open Studio with the enterprise version, the enterprise is giving us the usage reports, a lot of in-built reports are available. That feature is not available in the open-source, which can be increased. However, that's not a major show stopper or a concern, but it would be nice to have those features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Talend Open Studio for approximately eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Talend Open Studio is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We did some testing with the enterprise version and we did not encounter any problems with the scalability of the solution. There are scalable features available. However, the documentation could be better.
How are customer service and support?
Talend Open Studio needs to improve on its documentation and support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Talend Open Studio was straightforward for Windows. However, when it comes to Linux, it is a bit complicated but it's manageable.
What about the implementation team?
The implementation of Talend Open Studio was done in-house.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Talend Open Studio is priced too high.
What other advice do I have?
The cost involved is high, we need to select which solution to use, the Open Studio version or the enterprise version. If there is scope for SAP or some paid connectors, we can go with the enterprise version, or the Open Studio version is capable enough to manage the data integration part.
I rate Talend Open Studio an eight out of ten.

What is our primary use case?
We have migrated to the Talend Open Studio version 7.3. but have not used it yet. I have only done some testing on another computer to see how the new version is functioning.
We use Talend Open Studio only to do the ETL from our database, it takes XML files and converts them to CSV. Talend Open Studio transforms files on the website and modifies them for the database.

You can do mapping, workflow, and orchestration all in one place
Pros and Cons
- "Talend lets you do everything — mapping, workflow, and orchestration — in a single place."
- "Talend should improve the log and error handling to better track the errors you find during development. Sometimes it's challenging to see what's causing an issue, and tracking that on Talend is complicated."
What is our primary use case?
We were using the entire Talend solution for the last client, but it was only for integration between the databases and the data warehouse. It was a standard ETL job. We have Talend Open Studio deployed on our desktop, but we used the Talend cloud service for our clients.
What is most valuable?
Talend lets you do everything — mapping, workflow, and orchestration — in a single place.
What needs improvement?
Talend should improve the log and error handling to better track the errors you find during development. Sometimes it's challenging to see what's causing an issue, and tracking that on Talend is complicated.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with Talend for around two years. I'm no expert, but I have enough knowledge to create an entire solution using the tool.
How are customer service and support?
Talend support is good.
How was the initial setup?
Since I'm only a developer, I didn't have much information about the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is low. It's always good
What other advice do I have?
I rate Talend Open Studion eight out of 10. Talend can do everything that you want to do, but to do the more complex tasks, you need extensive knowledge of IT processes. You need to know what you're doing or you won't' be able to do anything in Talend.

Good platform for keeping your data well sorted
Pros and Cons
- "The best thing I have found with Talend Open Studio is their major support for the lookups."
- "In terms of what can be improved, the scheduling is not there in the sister version, while it is there in the cloud one, which is a paid version. If all kinds of scheduling could be available on the Open Studio that we generally use and practice on, that would be great. The scheduling of the data migration is currently not available in the sister version of Talend Open Studio that we are working on. It is available in the advanced version of the Talend. This is the one thing that can be improvised."
What is most valuable?
The best thing I have found with Talend Open Studio is their major support for the lookups. With Salesforce, when we want to relate our child objects to their parent object, we need to create them via IDs. Then the upsert operation, which will allow you to relate a child object to the event, will have an external ID. That is the best thing which keeps it very sorted. I like that.
What needs improvement?
In terms of what can be improved, the scheduling is not there in the sister version, while it is there in the cloud one, which is a paid version. If all kinds of scheduling could be available on the Open Studio that we generally use and practice on, that would be great. The scheduling of the data migration is currently not available in the sister version of Talend Open Studio that we are working on. It is available in the advanced version of the Talend. This is the one thing that can be improvised.
Overall, I would like to see better scheduling for multiple, simultaneously running processes.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Talend Open Studio for almost five plus years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good. Since I have worked on a quite number of ETLs, Talend is a better approach or at least the better choice for me. Every time, it is the better choice to go for.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is a good feature here.
Whether we increase usage depends on the requirements. When I started, it was the basic requirement. Now, as time passes, I'm working on competencies and the new personalities of the Talend and there are some components which are not available here which I have to download from the AppExchange. For example, there is a kind of drill component which we get from AppExchange. With the experience of five years, I have worked multiple competencies and multiple scenarios. It is scalable and customizable, but one issue we have faced individually and as a team on Talend, is the errors which are not completely recognizable. Other than that, in terms of handling, in terms customization, in terms of the UI, it is quite responsive and quite easy to use. Other than the logs.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used cloud apps, such as the dataloader.io or the Informatica cloud, but I have not worked on the Talend cloud version. I now work on the Talend Open Studio, which is the desktop version.
When I started this data thing, where we handle the data, Talend Open Studio was the first solution which I worked on and I'm still working on it. I have worked on the different details of the scheduling events and of the client comments. These are the two issues because of which I switched to Informatica, the DataBank, and cloud dataloader. Otherwise, we mostly focus on Talend Open Studio.
How was the initial setup?
Initial setup was not very easy because when I started I didn't have any background on the data integration. But there is a class to start. When I started with Talend Open Studio, it was an average, good experience. Not very easy, nor very complicated.
What other advice do I have?
I would say it is a good platform. Give it a start to work on. It actually handles the freshers very nicely. The only drawback as a fresher is lacking the experience which makes it difficult to understand the error message that gets generated on the execution of the job, not in the file. That has been tricky. Because you need to have experience to understand why that error appears in the execution of the job. Otherwise, it's a good platform to have a start on.
On a scale of one to ten, I would give Talend Open Studio an 8 to 9. It would be 9 if they added the scheduling of multiple processes. Without that, it is an 8.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Integrates well with multiple data sources but the support could be improved
Pros and Cons
- "Talend can connect to multiple data sources, including relational data sources, ERP, CRM, and others."
- "We use the open-source version; it does the job well for nothing, without cost, and that's the advantage of this product."
- "Talent consumes a lot of resources on my PC. Also, the support could be better."
What is our primary use case?
I use this solution for development purposes. This solution is installed on my PC. For the project that we're currently working on, I am the only user.
What is most valuable?
Talend can connect to multiple data sources, including relational data sources, ERP, CRM, and others.
What needs improvement?
Talent consumes a lot of resources on my PC. Also, the support could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Talend Open Studio since April 2020.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are always new versions being released — new updates. Periodically, we upgrade it to avoid any old bugs.
How are customer service and technical support?
As it's open-source, there is no commercial support. We just use the forums and ask the community when we need help.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was very easy.
What about the implementation team?
I installed it myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We use the open-source version. It does the job well for nothing — without cost. That's the advantage of this product.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend Talend. It's open-source and it's a good product. Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give Talend a rating of seven.

Able to handle lots of data, offers great features, and overall has a lot of advantages in the market
Pros and Cons
- "We're able to handle large amounts of data with ease."
- "The solution, in general, offers us a lot of great advantages."
- "The pricing could be lower. They should work to make it more affordable."
What is most valuable?
The solution, in general, offers us a lot of great advantages.
It has a lot of very interesting features that we can use.
We're able to handle large amounts of data with ease.
What needs improvement?
I can't recall any missing features within the solution. Overall, we are happy with it.
The pricing could be lower. They should work to make it more affordable.
The solution can sometimes be slow from time to time while using the server. It would be ideal if it was more responsive.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution can sometimes run slow on the server. We'd like it to operate faster.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've worked with SSIS in the past, and I've found that Talend actually offers many more features and capabilities.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution's pricing could be better. Its costs are a bit high.
What other advice do I have?
We're primarily customers and end-users. We aren't partners with Talend.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten overall. We're mostly quite happy with the product.

User-friendly, good price, and useful for connecting to different databases
Pros and Cons
- "I can connect with different databases such as Oracle Database or SQL Server. It allows you to extract the data from one database to another. I can structure the data by filtering and mapping the fields. It is very user-friendly. You need to know the basics of SQL development or SQL queries, and you can use this tool."
- "In terms of features, it has all the features that I need. However, it consumes a lot of resources. It is using a lot of RAM, and they need to fix the issue related to resource consumption. It currently requires more than 24 gigabytes of RAM, which is a big amount of RAM."
What is our primary use case?
I'm currently doing the research and testing it on my machine. Our use case is to extract or manipulate data from one database to another one in a structured form.
How has it helped my organization?
I am just testing this solution. It is too early to say whether it is helpful for our company. I am currently assessing it, and I will report my assessment to our management. If it is useful for our project, we will buy a license and use it in our projects.
What is most valuable?

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for two weeks.
How are customer service and technical support?
I didn't open any cases with technical support. I would need a license from Talend to get support.
How was the initial setup?
It was easy and user-friendly. Its deployment took around 20 to 30 minutes.
What about the implementation team?
I didn't use a consultant.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost for one year for the ETL tools, not for the big data, is 6K per year. It is a good price.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I'm also assessing the Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) solution. I have to assess both Talend and ODI, and management will decide which one will be used. It seems like we can use both of these solutions. For example, for Oracle Database, we can use ODI, and for other databases, we can use Talend Open Studio.
What other advice do I have?
It is good for connecting to more than one source. I can manipulate the data from multiple sources. I can manipulate the data from different databases such as SQL Server or Oracle Database.
I would rate Talend Open Studio an eight out of ten.

A safe and easy data integration solution
Pros and Cons
- "Talend is safe to use because it is very restrictive, and it is easy to use when one learns how to manipulate data with SQL."
- "As for improvement or additional features, I would like to know how to use Java in Talend and also how to use Talend in the cloud or in big data. I would prefer to have storage directly on Talend."
What is our primary use case?
We use it to integrate data; we take several folders, transform them, and store them in the database, which is PostgreSQL.
What is most valuable?
Talend is safe to use because it is very restrictive. It is easy to use when one learns how to manipulate data with SQL.
What needs improvement?
As for improvements or additional features, I would like to know how to use Java in Talend and also how to use Talend in the cloud or in big data. I would prefer to have storage directly in Talend.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Talend Open Studio for a year and a few months.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have been able to find the solution I need and continue working with Talend's good technical support.
How was the initial setup?
It was not difficult to install.

Useful data stewardship and data preparation features but lacks documentation
Pros and Cons
- "The data integration aspect of the solution is excellent."
- "Overall, we have been happy with the product and, from a data management perspective, the data preparation, data stewardship, and the other features that Talend has, including the MDM, are all extremely important for today's organization."
- "The documentation is lacking within the product. They need to get better at all aspects of describing how it works and how to use it."
What is our primary use case?
One use case for Talend Data Management is using it for data integration from multiple data sources and then to build our customer's golden record.
What is most valuable?
The data integration aspect of the solution is excellent.
The product's data preparation features are very good.
There's very useful data stewardship within the product.
From a technical standpoint, the solution itself is pretty good.
There are very good pre-built connectors in Talend, which is good for many clients or businesses, as, in most cases, companies are dealing with multiple data sources from multiple technologies. That is where a tool like Talend is extremely helpful.
What needs improvement?
While I can't really speak to technical aspects that need improvement, I can say that the marketing of the solution is not the best. They need to really improve how they present the solution to potential clients.
The documentation is lacking within the product. They need to get better at all aspects of describing how it works and how to use it.
For example, if you see all the other modern products - like Snowflake or Cloudera - and go to their sites, you will have various types of documentation, including data charts and other things you can get readily access. However, if you go to the Talend site, you won't get this kind of marketing material, which is always required.
It's especially difficult when you're writing a proposal. You need to have the technical specifications. All of these modern solutions are quite advanced in terms of their documentation. You go to their site, and you will get a lot of brochures, reports, and other items. This gives you a detailed understanding of the solutions, and all of the specifications, and technicalities, and other things. For Talend, unfortunately, there's a lag in that aspect.
From a data management or data engineering perspective, they could stabilize their new features more.
It would be ideal if they could consider adding prescriptive or predictive models into their components, such as an alternate data IQ.
For how long have I used the solution?
We don't use the solution directly per se. We're a solutions provider.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution offers very good stability. We haven't really had any issues with glitches or bugs. There aren't problems with the solution crashing or freezing on clients. It's been good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is good at scalability With their big data integration products, they're actually handling a huge data set and the scalability of it is good. They're well-positioned to scale for the client.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support is pretty good. I would rate them at an eight out of ten. We've been satisfied with the level of support provided overall.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was straightforward. It was not complex at all.
Deployment times vary according to the size of the client or their needs. If it's for a big client and big project, it could be six months of implementation time. Smaller jobs may only take one month of implementation. It all depends.
What about the implementation team?
We tend to implement this solution for our clients.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I've briefly looked at Azure Data Factory and have been seeking out comparisons between these two options.
What other advice do I have?
We are the solution provider. We are the company that implements such solutions as Talend. We are not the user of the solutions themselves necessarily. We are the reseller as well as implementation partners and the implementing partner of Talend. We have resources who work on these tools and who implement solutions for our customers.
The version of the solution we use varies from client to client, especially for Talend. They have multiple products, including Talend Data Management and Talend's Data Integration Pipeline. A lot of our customers are using the open-source version of Talend. Some are using the licensed version. From those, some are using it for the data stewardship.
We deploy both cloud and on-premises models as required.
Overall, we've been happy with the product. From a data management perspective, the data preparation, data stewardship and the other features that Talend has, including the MDM, are all extremely important for today's organization.
Overall, I would rate the solution at a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
