Expandable with good antivirus aspects but lacks stability

  • "The solution uses up a lot of memory, which is a major issue."
  • "We did not have a good experience with McAfee. I would not recommend them to others."

What is our primary use case?

We have used it as an antivirus, not web protection. We deployed it on all the endpoints and all the Windows servers.

What is most valuable?

The antivirus aspect was great that's what we were most focused on.

It can scale quite well.

What needs improvement?

The solution needs better stability. There are a lot of issues.

The solution uses up a lot of memory, which is a major issue.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for three or four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is not stable. It's something that needs to be worked on.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable. It's not an issue at all if you want to expand.

That said, it is deployed at either the endpoint of the server, not everywhere.

We don't have more than three people directly on the solution. Hardly one or two people use it at any given time. We do not have plans to increase usage at this time as in general we have not had a good experience with the product.

How are customer service and support?

I've never dealt with technical support. I would not be able to rate their services.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are now switching over to CrowdStrike and leaving McAfee.

I'm not sure what we used previous to McAfee.

How was the initial setup?

I did not handle the setup myself.

In terms of deployment and management, we had a team of six people on it. They were managing the solution and the setup process.

What about the implementation team?

This product is completely handled by the compliance team, which is part of our team. They do the complete setup.

What other advice do I have?

We did not have a good experience with McAfee. I would not recommend them to others.

Overall, I'd rate the product five out of ten. It needs to develop better stability.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Reliable with good notifications and decent protection
Pros and Cons
  • "It provides helpful popups."
  • "When I'm getting some emails or something, they will be scanned, and the solution will be giving me an indication of whether any malware or anything is present."
  • "The cost could be improved."
  • "The solution is a bit pricey."

What is our primary use case?

When I'm getting some emails or something, they will be scanned, and the solution will be giving me an indication of whether any malware or anything is present. I can be warned before opening some attachments. It will do some scanning and provide some assurance that they have done that check so I feel protected. It's a good level of security.

How has it helped my organization?

I'm not using the solution for my personal purpose. I'm using it for my organization, where we are looking for some improvisation for the product.

What is most valuable?

The solution offers good protection. It provides helpful popups.

It has an easy initial setup.

The solution is stable.

The scalability is good.

What needs improvement?

The cost could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

You need to make sure that you are updated with the latest database to search for the vulnerabilities so that you will have the best updates from McAfee regarding the latest threats on the internet. It will help ensure your security.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

When you are subscribed, you have the option to choose how many devices you want to use. You can choose the right options for your organization.

I'm not sure how many people are on the solution, however, my understanding is that it is quite a few. I use it across my day-to-day activities and it's used extensively.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't used any tech support. We tend to get the latest updates to protect ourselves. However, if we need to, we can search the internet to keep updated on the latest trends in terms of vulnerabilities. If we see something worrisome, we'll patch and fix.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm using AVG as well.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is not that complex. If it is someone with some experience, it'll be easy. The deployment itself won't take not more than half an hour.

What about the implementation team?

I did the implementation myself. I did not use a consultant or an integrator.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is a bit pricey.

I have a yearly license. You can get some discounts. I went for a combo offer with my mobile and laptop having the connection. There's a subscription for that.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We want to try the different options which are available in the market. I'm doing some R&D to understand what the pros and cons are and looking for reviews from customers who are all currently using it to try to understand the challenges when we are using any other product available in the market.

What other advice do I have?

I have not done a subscription or renewal recently. I am currently on an older version.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. I'd rate it higher, however, it is a bit expensive.

Works seamlessly, reasonably priced, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is easy to implement."
  • "We’ve used it for a long time and are happy with it overall."
  • "Right now, nothing is missing from the solution."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for security and protection from viruses.

How it’s improved organization:

What is most valuable?

We haven’t had any problems with McAfee yet. It’s worked smoothly.

The product is easy to implement.

It is a stable, reliable solution with good performance.

The solution is reasonably priced.

It’s great at protecting users and won’t let any external devices come through. They can’t copy anything from the server.

What needs improvement?

Right now, nothing is missing from the solution. We are happy with it.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using McAfee for as long as I've been with the company. That’s over three years since we've been using McAfee for our business plan.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good. We haven’t had issues. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn’t crash or freeze. It’s reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable product. It's on the server, and the other workstations are connected to that. The product itself will derive it from the server. It's protecting everything from the server, including all the other desktops.

We have about six users not eh solution currently. We do have plans to increase usage in the future.

How are customer service and support?

We have in-house support with McAfee. That said, we haven’t had any problems. Once we installed it, then we had our typical IT department look at it. Everything is running well.

How was the initial setup?

It's a straightforward setup. It's not complex.

It’s very fast to deploy. You can do it in three to five minutes. It’s very fast to set it up.

What about the implementation team?

The solution is done in-house. It’s so easy. We didn’t need any outside assistance from a consultant or integrator.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a license directly with McAfee that we need to renew from time to time.

It isn’t overly expensive.

What other advice do I have?

We use the standard version of the solution.

I’d recommend the solution to others. We’ve used it for a long time and are happy with it overall.

I would rate the solution nine out of ten.

Good for protection but causes lag in the system
Pros and Cons
  • "It's valuable for protection and internet safety."
  • "It's valuable for protection and internet safety."
  • "One problem is that when you switch on the system, Windows 10 takes almost two to three minutes to get initiated and then McAfee adds on to it because it starts scanning automatically."
  • "I wouldn't recommend McAfee Move Antivirus for Windows 10."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is for protection of personal information and internet safety. This is an individual system, so I'm the only one who uses it.

What is most valuable?

It's valuable for protection and internet safety.

What needs improvement?

The system could perform better and faster. The latest Windows, like 10 and 11, have the internal defenders available in the setup itself. It was pre-installed and it was available with the package itself. I didn't have to pay anything separately for that, so that's why I'm just keeping it as it is. Another problem is I can't delete it or I can only disable it, so when the self protective system is already in place, I don't think an additional antivirus is needed.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using McAfee MOVE AntiVirus since 2020. It was pre-installed, so it was with the package of Windows 10.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

One problem is that when you switch on the system, Windows 10 takes almost two to three minutes to get initiated and then McAfee adds on to it because it starts scanning automatically. You need to manually pause it because it slows down the system drastically. As a combination with Windows 10, McAfee makes the system a lot slower.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

With our company laptops, everything is pre-installed, and I think they are using Quick Heal in office. It's better because I don't get any popups or scanning messages. It sends the details to the respective department and they take the call, so I don't need to intervene in anything. Every two weeks or twice in a month, all the upgrades get notified. As upgrades get notified, I keep doing the updates for the office. It automatically gets updated for Windows 10.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't have to do any installation. It came with a package, so everything was pre-installed in the system.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For McAfee, I think it's already paid until 2023 because it's added on with the Windows 10 license pricing from Dell. I had to pay for it on the Dell website, which includes the licensing cost of Windows 10 and McAfee.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution 5 out of 10 because of the lag that it produces in the system. As soon as you switch it on, it takes four to five minutes in addition to the lag Windows 10 causes due to the size of the operating system. With respect to protection it's fine, but with respect to the delay of speed, it's much slower.

I wouldn't recommend McAfee Move Antivirus for Windows 10. It has a self-defense mechanism available in the processor itself. In that case, why would you need a separate antivirus? It's not required. The Windows Defender is already available and it's more than capable for just browsing through applications and websites. It's more capable of defending the system from any malware or any virus from the net. So in that case, I feel that McAfee is not required.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Setup process was easy and quick and offers good protection for personal use
Pros and Cons
  • "I like real-time mobile protection. It's quite easy to use and efficient."
  • "There is room for improvement in terms of stability."

What is our primary use case?

I use it for protection, antivirus, anti-phishing, and support.

What is most valuable?

I like real-time mobile protection. It's quite easy to use and efficient.

It's a good protection. I use it personally, so for this kind of first level of protection, it's okay. For the usage that I have. It's okay.

What needs improvement?

I would consider additional measures if I needed a higher level of protection, such as implementing more firewalls and other security measures.

But this kind of first level of protection, it's okay.

However, there is room for improvement in terms of stability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this product for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable. I would rate the stability an eight out of ten because there is always room to improve.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. I use it personally.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used Kaspersky, and I was not happy with the solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy. It was easy and quite quick.

It's a very standard installation. Nothing specific.

What was our ROI?

It's like insurance, so you don't have any benefits until the moment that you need it. This is the security.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The license fees are reasonable. It is a yearly licensing fee.

There are no additional costs to the standard licensing fees.

What other advice do I have?

If somebody is not very professional in security and just wants to have a good solution to protect his environment, it's a good one.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud
