It is helpful to get telemetry data from the devices in real-time
It is an easily scalable solution. When it comes to the retention period, if someone wants to change, they have to define it at the start. Later on, if users want to change it again, like, or increase the retention policy, then they have to create the table again and do so, and if it is not done, then we face problems. It will increase the retention, but when you try to insert a record or an older record that is not included in the range of your retention period, then you can face some problems and, like, it will throw some errors. The tool is scalable, but it should be defined at the start as to how much retention you want. For scalability, I rate the tool a six or seven out of ten.

While MongoDB is a good product, it is also an expensive product for support, and its scalability is acceptable, but the big problem with MongoDB is the cost. For security in MongoDB, we work with encrypted databases by default, but we have not contracted the security options in our contract because it is too expensive, so we only implement encrypted databases without the security pack, which is very expensive for us; in security, we are at the first steps, just using encrypted databases. I think additional features needed in MongoDB include perhaps vector databases, as I think they are not supported right now.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Using Amazon Timestream has been seamless due to its integration within the AWS ecosystem and ease of use for the engineering team."
"If you drop a message, the solution's technical support will definitely reply."
"What I like best is that the tool is easy to collect and store data and is fast and scalable. The fully managed database is easy to understand."
"You can quickly aggregate data from the last ten years with Amazon Timestream."
"The best things about Amazon Timestream are it's maintenance-free, customizable, and has no lag issues. It's always real-time."
"MongoDB is simpler to learn and implement than traditional SQL solutions like MySQL."
"Scalability seems good. I've never been even close to finding the limits. I've run a couple of notes of redundancy but I've never had any problems with scalability."
"The aggregation framework is very powerful when elaborating on data."
"MongoDB is scalable and stable. The initial setup is very easy, and deployment and maintenance can be done by one person."
"I find the integration with other tools very easy."
"The most valuable features of MongoDB are the variety of translations available and the ability to deploy it on the cloud is useful. The cloud users can access the data, work on the data, and if they want to import or manipulate some data they can."
"MongoDB has many good replication features and good performance."
"The most valuable feature is the speed of MongoDB."

Cons

"Arranging the database schema is a bit challenging."
"The tool could be improved by increasing the batch size from one hundred records to five hundred or a thousand to speed up indexing."
"There are certain features that we would like to see added and we are collaborating with the product teams on these areas."
"The solution could be improved by making it easier for new graduates like me to use. Better explanations of queries and how to use them with other AWS services would help."
"There are disadvantages when it comes to time series databases since you can't delete anything from Amazon Timestream data."
"MongoDB should support TypeScript."
"It would be much more useful if I have an admin user and a password."
"The dashboard is an area of concern in the solution where improvements are required."
"They could improve the UI and the analytics part."
"More stable indexes would be helpful in a future release. That's been an issue for some time. I don't know if it's been fixed now but we transitioned to it because we needed a search index to be able to search for things and if that goes or starts disappearing, we have to move away from that solution. I don't know if they fixed it, last time I had this issue was three years ago so they might have solved it."
"The solution should more easily integrate with custom code."
"The improvements could be made to intelligence to detect disk storage and prevent MongoDB from crashing."
"I think that MongoDB's search engine should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For 1GB of data, the solution charges $ 0.01 in the US region."
"We don't see high costs with Amazon Timestream, which may vary by company."
"We pay over $10 million a year to Amazon."
"Amazon Timestream's pricing seems manageable to me."
"The pricing is normal. Price-wise, the product is not too much expensive."
"The pricing is favorable if you opt to install MongoDB on an Amazon EC2 instance as you won't have to pay for the extra Atlas services and can instead manage the scaling yourself. This allows for a cost-effective solution and using MongoDB on a small scale, I have been able to utilize it for free."
"Our customers pay for yearly licenses for MongoDB."
"I believe that MongoDB is free."
"At the moment, all customers are using the community version."
"I only used the open-source version."
"You only have to pay for the paid version, not the open-source version."
"MongoDB is not expensive."
