Automation boosts efficiency with a user-friendly interface
Currently, I have switched to negotiating through third-party vendors for licensing, which has made it more expensive. Broadcom should address this by dealing directly with customers again. Licensing fees have increased as they charge based on executions rather than user agents, causing higher costs. Technical support also involves third-party interactions, complicating direct assistance from Broadcom.

Helps automate all kinds of jobs and it's worth the price because it saves a lot of time and money
One problem that I had with them when we got SMA Technologies is that sometimes the jobs fail, but they automatically restart. SMA Technologies automatically gets a notification that the job has failed, and they restart it on their end, so now, we have the job restarting twice. There were times when we came into the office in the morning, and we had two files because the job ran twice. I do not know if the system can prevent a job from running the second time. If a job has run successfully, or it is running, it should not run again.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Atomic Applications Manager is user-friendly and accommodates around 100 users who can monitor and run their jobs effectively."
"It has improved my organization through automation of back office and infrastructure procedures, and by integrating and orchestrating key business applications spanning multiple technology stacks."
"AppWorx Workload Automation's simplicity and powerful functionality are its most valuable features for us."
"The automated solution is the most valuable piece. Otherwise, we would have to be doing everything manually on every server."
"The solution is very user friendly so anyone can use it."
"It is an object-based approach to task and process design in conjunction with conditional logic and event-based scheduling actions, which enables a build once/use often design methodology to be employed."
"The interface is good."
"It allows for efficient workload management and reports on the status of processes, which was a unique feature when it was first introduced."
"When a lot of jobs are scheduled on different platforms, without any interaction possible between them, it's very difficult to manage things. With OpCon we avoid this difficulty. It's very visual."
"Previously, we would receive a file from a vendor, then we would have to go through and make changes to individual accounts in our core system. There are probably between 10 to 20 accounts any given week. It probably took around five minutes for it to run through the report and make all the changes, and that was if there was nothing complicated with all very straightforward changes. Now, that is done in 30 seconds."
"The greatness of it is the flexibility of the scheduling and the integration of all platforms and processes. We have integrated it with everything from AIX to Microsoft Servers; with pretty much anything that we can."
"We recently did a branch acquisition of another bank, though not a full bank. With that, we had to convert all of their ACH transactions. It was a very complicated product that we received from our core provider, Fiserv, for some translation programs. It was very cumbersome to run through the process, convert it out, get output files, etc. Without anyone touching it, I was able to automate the full process from pulling in the files from this other bank, converting everything needed, and posting it to our customer's account 24-hours throughout the day."
"The stability of this solution is awesome. It's the only product I've ever seen that you can actually build to fix itself if it has a problem. You'll build something and, if you find an issue, you can say, 'Hey, if this happens again, do this to correct it.'"
"The ability to chain jobs together allows us to create complex interdependencies between our jobs, and the integration into our core system is important because it allows us, through an automated system, to do a huge number of things that used to be done manually."
"The whole product is valuable to us because of the integrations that it has with the MCP and the Windows environments. You have to have the agent on each one of them that you want to monitor. The integrations that we have created are along the lines of extracting files and sending them through SFTP to another vendor. Those are the things that were taking a lot of time away from my staff."
"The most valuable feature of OpCon is its scheduling capability, particularly for automating file transfers with vendors."

Cons

"We are looking for additional features that would allow us to call APIs and integrate the product with other tools more effectively."
"The scalability could improve."
"The compliance features are limited to the server and not the entire infrastructure."
"Currently, I have switched to negotiating through third-party vendors for licensing, which has made it more expensive. Broadcom should address this by dealing directly with customers again."
"It is difficult to integrate with the Active Directory (AD)."
"It is not really scaling per say because they are not putting much into it. They are trying to push their new product."
"It has been a deprecated product, because it is so old. There has been a couple of new solutions that are a little more advanced."
"If there is a time out that happens at the tool's end, then we, as users of the product, are not able to login to the GUI."
"The GUI is very old-fashioned compared to Control-M, for example. They should prioritize the GUI."
"The calendar interface and the frequency interface is a very powerful, yet complex, section of OpCon in which all our staff have made mistakes. They have implemented what they believed was logically correct and then afterward discovered that their logic was flawed because OpCon did it a different way. That part, which is incredibly useful, is also incredibly dangerous. The interface or the ability to directly do more functions within the frequency definitely has room for expansion. As good as it is, it can be a lot better."
"Enterprise Manager is a little clunky which I know they're addressing in the solution's manager."
"There is one feature that has been a difficult problem, and right now, OpCon can't do it. I'm not sure if it should be expected to, but we have tried to get it to where it could start a process on an external database."
"We are still in the early stages of our implementation, so at this point, I cannot see any needed improvements or features."
"I have noticed lately that [tech support's] first answers tend to be, "Let's upgrade it to the latest and greatest first," without looking into anything. The last couple of times I've logged a ticket that's been the response, which is a little frustrating. We're not big on just upgrading on a whim. We do full testing."
"There is some difficulty with the ease of use when I don't have some of the templates that were already created. More templates would be great. Non-core featured templates are my biggest struggle."
"I would like to see OpCon being accessible using a mobile app."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are satisfied with the pricing."
"The price for annual licenses is a bit expensive so pricing is rated a two out of ten."
"Licensing options are fairly straightforward."
"The cost model is based on the number of orchestrated systems used."
"The total cost of ownership is about the same to our previous product. The costs are relatively similar."
"The pricing is over $100,000 for our credit union and I believe it's $89,000 for our clients, in total, annually."
"This solution is certainly not the cheapest, but we win in time."
"Scaling is pricey."
"Operating OpCon comes with a cost."
"There are different add-ons, like the Self Service or Vision model. It all depends on what agents you have in your environment. We have a mainframe and Windows, and while I think SQL is free, SAP or anything beyond that has different connectors that might need a license."
"Yearly, we're paying about $62,000. OpCon has an all-inclusive feature and module license, but you pay per task."
"Our license is for 1000 jobs. Including support, the license and upgrades are 2000 euros a month."

@PhilippeLLORET, All worked out fine in the end. We had demos for all three products, and it was decided that Automic Workload Manager was the best option for our needs. The vendor is now able to provide some support for the Automic Workload Automation product.
