Offers improved data protection and security with indirect ROI
The pricing of the Cloud is on the higher side, and it should be cost-effective enough to compete with native solutions. Currently, Cohesity Cloud seems very costly compared to native backups. Although this is an emerging tool and there is room for growth, it needs to mature further. There is an AI feature, however, it is still in the development phase and requires substantial improvements.
Syed Habib - PeerSpot reviewer
Manageable and comprehensive and integrates robust backup features for core banking
It's adequate for my core banking, however, I am looking for another solution for all systems. It is not compatible with other operating systems like Windows or Linux, and lacks a consolidated dashboard from Browser Spectrum. This is why I am searching for another solution. The product also lacks any centralized graphical user interface (GUI), such as Jarek Pod, and I am limited to using a console-based text user interface, which my local partner handles completely.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Our data center size occupancy for Cohesity appliance is reduced by 70% when we installed Cohesity."
"I find the most important feature to be data protection."
"The clone feature is very nice. You can restore workloads onto Cohesity's storage, which is also nice to have when you don't have enough space to restore on the server."
"The hyper-converged architecture and scalability are hugely important for growing service companies."
"I rate the Cohesity Data Cloud solution a ten out of ten. It's an easy-to-use product that provides substantial value and security."
"It's very regimented and fast. It does local backup, cloud backup, long-term coverage, and disaster recovery."
"It is easy to install and use."
"I definitely recommend this tool to others due to its simplicity, security, features, and flexibility."
"Nothing beats this solution for file backup."
"I find the whole product useful. The backup archive client, snapshot, spectrum for virtual environments are beneficial features."
"This solution has improved our organization through better file and database recovery."
"With data deduplication and compression, we are reducing our overall storage footprint for our disk histories. Therefore, we are reducing the actual cost of the disk for our data protection and data backups."
"The product is very stable."
"For initial setup, we started with the blueprints, which were great. The blueprints allowed us to be able to decide if we needed to use small, medium,k or large. Because we are a large environment, we used a large blueprint. Once we followed everything in the blueprint, it was a smooth transition from there."
"Incremental backup is highly valuable as it allows for significant time and cost savings."
"Our performance is better."

Cons

"There is limited support for legacy systems, which is something that could be improved."
"It has never been touted as a tier-one storage platform, and that would be a benefit. They are currently working on solving that issue."
"The pricing of the Cloud is on the higher side, and it should be cost-effective enough to compete with native solutions."
"The initial setup can be complex, depending on the environment."
"The limitation that I see in Cohesity is that the minimum sized node is 36 terabytes, which is more than a small customer needs."
"The pricing of the Cloud is on the higher side, and it should be cost-effective enough to compete with native solutions."
"The primary drawback is the need to transfer large amounts of data to the cloud via an internet connection, requiring significant bandwidth."
"In terms of functionality, Helios has been effective, but sometimes it doesn't show the exact cluster name for backups."
"The licensing isn't very clear. They should work to simply or clarify the cost structure."
"It's difficult in terms of the configuration at set up. In our case, it required another admin, one person dedicated to the backup."
"It should have the ability to break down the data that's being backed up. It should have better reporting."
"Integration with Windows environments needs improvement. It should be more "assisted", both at the application and database level. It remains a product that fits better in Unix/Linux environments than in Windows environments, given its configuration procedures."
"It lacks reporting and an efficient alert mechanism. The GUI could also be improved."
"It does not do too well in our virtual environment."
"We have had some problems about using storage agents on the X6 environment. It is not quite stable, but it is also not supported in a virtualized environment."
"Better integration with other tools and databases is needed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Regarding pricing, it's very costly and I rate it a four."
"Competing products sometimes use deceptive marketing to make their products seem a lot cheaper. Comparing apples-to-apples, DataPlatform wins out."
"It's priced properly for the market."
"We chose IBM Spectrum Protect, because they actually have something called MSP pricing, which means managed services provider pricing. The pricing was attractive, and it seems to be a platform that IBM is totally investing on in terms of new functions and new capabilities."
"The solution's pricing is fair. Price-wise, I rate the solution an eight out of ten."
"Spectrum Protect is not a cheap option."
"One can go with either a PVU licensing model or a capacity based licensing model. Either solution does not block the usage, if over used."
"There may be an advantage to going with IBM in terms of pricing. They have a pay-as-you-grow policy, so there is no need to take one license for the entire datacenter. You can start with small licenses and then grow, and pay, as you use more."
"The licensing fees are on a yearly basis, which for us it is about R400,000 (approximately $27,000 USD)."
"It's very complicated. Licensing is a pain."
"IBM Spectrum Protect, cost-wise, has way higher pricing than Veeam. By switching over to Veeam, my company saved over $600,000 in USD. The IBM Spectrum Protect pricing is a two on a scale of one to ten. My company paid additional fees for maintenance, apart from the standard licensing fees."
