Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

A competitive and balanced solution that offers solid performance at a reasonable price
I worked very closely with ExaGrid in Singapore. We are trying to build up the market for ExaGrid in Vietnam. We hope to be a big distributor for ExaGrid and that the picture will improve next year. Regarding the technology of ExaGrid, they have a landing zone, and now it's a very exhaustive solution, especially compared with Dell Data Domain and HPE. HPE offers normal storage without any special solution. Dell has DD Boost, and so the performance is high. On that basis, I rate the ExaGrid Tiered Backup Storage number with an overall score of eight out of ten. People might be more familiar with Data Domain or StoreOnce. And if people want a professional solution, there are only three brands.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Single pane of management policy driven backup."
"The global application provides a lot of storage for customers, with good security features for Google, videos, irregular encryption, and backups, and the solution includes the best compatibility metrics for integration managed by Google support."
"There is no reason for me to rate them other than a 10 out of 10."
"It helped us reduce the number of servers that are required for a stable operation."
"The data protection itself is very good compared to other products."
"Commvault can actually come in and assist you with aspects of the implementation - and they are quite helpful."
"Commvault has helped us to win some customers against our competitors because we have this solution and they don't have anything like it."
"Commvault Cloud has positively impacted me in several key areas: unified backup management across environments, reduced operational overhead, improved ransomware resiliency, faster recovery times, better visibility for compliance, and easier management of hybrid or cloud workloads."
"I like the performance of the restore feature."

Cons

"Reduce the complexity for better understanding of the reports. There are a lot of variables in which you can get confused while elaborating on reports."
"The navigation of it needs improvement in terms of the UX. The product itself, it works as expected. It's all user experience and user interface improvements that could be made and it could be made a little more consumer-friendly."
"Setup is complex."
"We are using a production environment with customer-sensitive data on it. As per our central bank rules and regulations, we can't keep our customer's sensitive data in the cloud."
"The product's migration process and stability need improvement."
"One issue we face is the complexity of the console. That could be improved on."
"Commvault Cloud is a very powerful tool, but it can be improved in various ways."
"Commvault is a rich system that might scare somebody the first time they see it because it feels so huge."
"We have to do a lot of POC to show why ExaGrid is good."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Commvault's pricing model and pricing structure were initially confusing, but once we worked more closely with the company, we were able to transition to a subscription license that saved us a lot of money."
"It would not be affordable for small to medium size organizations."
"Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."
"It is not the cheapest solution. I think the pricing is fair for mid-side customers. It is between all the other options."
"I would rate the price of Commvault Cloud seven out of ten with ten being the cheapest."
"The solution is bundled with hardware licensing. If I want to increase the hardware, I have to buy exactly the same because it's based on the core hardware license. We cannot tell discount because we have an NDA signed with Commvault because of my academic license. The solution is more expensive than NetBackup and Veeam but cheaper than Rubrik."
"The tool is affordable."
"The cost of an integrator license is moderate and its features cover most customers."
"ExaGrid is a one-time investment."
