We use this solution for IP address management and our internal and external DNS.
We are happy with the product, and it provides us with flexibility.
The most valuable feature is reporting. Infoblox IPAM has very good reporting, which helps us plan our IP address allocation on-premises, remote sites and data centers.
We were using a Palo Alto firewall for global connect, and by default, Palo Alto firewall has to have a local IP pool for handing out the IP address. So, we would like to see integration between the Palo Alto firewall, other firewalls, and Infoblox IPAM so it can read what VPN clients have disconnected and then remove the DNS entries for those clients. Then Infoblox IPAM can remove any stolen DNA records as it sometimes creates many problems.
We have used this solution for about three years.
It is a stable solution. From the IPAM perspective, it can discover our environment, data center, or on-premises. It can also show all the IP addresses available in our environment, so we don't have to do all the entries manually.
It is a scalable solution. We were planning to extend and scale the existing DNS architecture to our cloud, but I am unsure if we are still doing that. About ten people administer the Infoblox IPAM setup, and we have about 5,000 users who use this solution for DNS and DHCP.
I rate the technical support a ten out of ten. However, there were a few instances where we needed their support, which was excellent. They create labs in their environment to understand the issue and devise a resolution.
The initial setup was straightforward. We previously used a Windows DNS service and received technical support from Infoblox. We perceived Infoblox would have an easy deployment for the new architecture. We were using five DNS boxes across our two data centers. It took one month to design, implement and know where the placement should be in Infoblox.
It is a licensed solution, but I do not have specific details about the costs.
I rate this solution a nine out of ten, and it has most of the features an organization would look for in a DDI product. We have used it for three years and haven't experienced any issues. I rate it a nine because there are still some additional features.
I recommend this solution because it is the best DVI solution I have ever used. However, if someone is going to administer Infoblox IPAM in their organization, I suggest they complete Infoblox training. Other solutions have pre-tutorials on YouTube and other learning platforms, but it is challenging to find training tutorials online. Therefore, I would recommend learning courses from Infoblox before they manage the product on-premises.
