Highly reliable and scalable, and different payment options available
Pros and Cons
  • "The most important feature of Infoblox IPAM for my clients is its reliability."
  • "Infoblox IPAM could improve some of the features. The market is demanding for some features that are not there, but there is always a reason why it's not there. At the moment, the solution is rather complete for what it's used for. It can always extend to solve some other issues that are linked to it, but the solution itself is complete."

What is our primary use case?

I install Infoblox IPAM for customers and I use many different versions.

My clients have many different types of use cases for this solution, such as internal DNS, external DNS, and reporting. All the options that are available in the solution have been implemented in some way for my clients.

What is most valuable?

The most important feature of Infoblox IPAM for my clients is its reliability.

What needs improvement?

Infoblox IPAM could improve some of the features. The market is demanding for some features that are not there, but there is always a reason why it's not there. At the moment, the solution is rather complete for what it's used for. It can always extend to solve some other issues that are linked to it, but the solution itself is complete.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Infoblox IPAM for approximately 13 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Infoblox IPAM is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Infoblox IPAM is infinitely scalable. It scales very well.

I have approximately 100 customers using this solution. However, the solution serves over a few million customers.

How are customer service and support?

The vendor support used to be better than it is today.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Infoblox IPAM typically starts with a migration to the solution. Companies are typically migrating from something they already were using to the solution. The migration is the most complex part which means the initial setup is the most complex.

The amount of time it takes to do the implementation depends on the customer and their setup environment. However, typically it takes a few weeks. I do have customers that are migrating for three years and those that have been migrated in one day. The time depends on the size of the company most of the time. If it is a simple environment, it takes one day.

What about the implementation team?

We have approximately five engineers that do the maintenance and support of my clients using this solution.

What was our ROI?

My customers have seen a return on investment using Infoblox IPAM.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Infoblox IPAM is a very expensive solution and it should improve. The solution is subscription-based, and the payments can be monthly or yearly. There are additional costs for more features, and the exact cost depends on the features you're using.

What other advice do I have?

I have used two solutions in my career that I would rate a ten out of ten and this is one of them.

I rate Infoblox IPAM a ten out of ten.

A useful solution for IP address management and internal and external DNS
Pros and Cons
  • "We are happy with the product, and it provides us with flexibility."
  • "It is challenging to find training tutorials online."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for IP address management and our internal and external DNS.

How has it helped my organization?

We are happy with the product, and it provides us with flexibility.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is reporting. Infoblox IPAM has very good reporting, which helps us plan our IP address allocation on-premises, remote sites and data centers.

What needs improvement?

We were using a Palo Alto firewall for global connect, and by default, Palo Alto firewall has to have a local IP pool for handing out the IP address. So, we would like to see integration between the Palo Alto firewall, other firewalls, and Infoblox IPAM so it can read what VPN clients have disconnected and then remove the DNS entries for those clients. Then Infoblox IPAM can remove any stolen DNA records as it sometimes creates many problems.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have used this solution for about three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution. From the IPAM perspective, it can discover our environment, data center, or on-premises. It can also show all the IP addresses available in our environment, so we don't have to do all the entries manually.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. We were planning to extend and scale the existing DNS architecture to our cloud, but I am unsure if we are still doing that. About ten people administer the Infoblox IPAM setup, and we have about 5,000 users who use this solution for DNS and DHCP.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the technical support a ten out of ten. However, there were a few instances where we needed their support, which was excellent. They create labs in their environment to understand the issue and devise a resolution.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. We previously used a Windows DNS service and received technical support from Infoblox. We perceived Infoblox would have an easy deployment for the new architecture. We were using five DNS boxes across our two data centers. It took one month to design, implement and know where the placement should be in Infoblox.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a licensed solution, but I do not have specific details about the costs.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution a nine out of ten, and it has most of the features an organization would look for in a DDI product. We have used it for three years and haven't experienced any issues. I rate it a nine because there are still some additional features.

I recommend this solution because it is the best DVI solution I have ever used. However, if someone is going to administer Infoblox IPAM in their organization, I suggest they complete Infoblox training. Other solutions have pre-tutorials on YouTube and other learning platforms, but it is challenging to find training tutorials online. Therefore, I would recommend learning courses from Infoblox before they manage the product on-premises.

  • "This is a DDI solution and having one management control has been most useful."

Stable server management tool
Pros and Cons
  • "IPAM's best features include the view of how many soft nets are filled from your container and the grid master, and it's also excellent for server management."
  • "An area for improvement is IPAM's smart folders, which can be slow to access and would benefit from a search feature."

What is our primary use case?

I usually use IPAM to allocate new soft nets for new sites, assign network scopes, create hosts and records, and for security purposes.

What is most valuable?

IPAM's best features include the view of how many soft nets are filled from your container and the grid master. It's also excellent for server management.

What needs improvement?

An area for improvement is IPAM's smart folders, which can be slow to access and would benefit from a search feature. In the next release, IPAM should include a separate view for requests and descriptions for tabs.

The Infoblox Grid removes single points of failure and other risks inherent in networks
Pros and Cons
  • "Centralized maintenance of even 1000's of far-flung devices, and automation of mundane tasks such as code updates."

    Valuable Features:

    Network Automation

    Improvements to My Organization:

I can easily monitor my whole subnets and critical devices easily. If I want to add new devices I can easily find where and what is vacant.

    Room for Improvement:

Network Automation IP registering Monitoring Security

    Use of Solution:

    1 year

    Deployment Issues:

No. It's very easy to monitor the Inflobox device itself by using Grid manager.

    Other Advice:

Centralized maintenance of even 1000's of far-flung devices, and automation of mundane tasks such as code updates. The Infoblox Grid removes single points of failure and other risks inherent in networks for both Infoblox and some partner appliances such as F5 Global Traffic Managers.
