Good reporting and discovery capabilities, and helpful for understanding device dependencies and asset management
Its price needs to be improved. It is more expensive than some of the other tools out there. Their support is good, but their knowledge base should be better. There should be a common area where we can search and find solutions for our queries or issues. We don't always need to raise a ticket with the Device42 support team. Currently, if you want to ping devices, you need to log into Appliance Manager. This feature should be available on the Device42 side. You should be able to use the ping utility without logging into Appliance Manager. The features that are there in Appliance Manager should also be available on the main Device42 server so that you have more control on one screen. You don't need to switch to another portal, but it is not something critical.

It is pretty scalable. On Infoblox IPAM, we have a total of five segments of slash 16. It is a vast network. Apart from that, there are multiple domains. I support French companies, and they have multiple domains. That DNS is also a part of Infoblox for which we need to do the entries. It is used on a daily basis in operations. If we face any issues, such as the IP is not reachable, the first thing we'll check is whether it is resolving or not. If we consider nslookup, it will also go to DNS. So, it is used daily.

"While the automatic IT asset discovery is great, the first time using it can be confusing when you are configuring the SNMP. I don't remember for sure but I don't think it said "SNMP community," it said "password". The first time I used it I was thinking about communities but the tool said "password," and when you say "password" in SNMP you are thinking about SNMP version 3. This is the only thing that is confusing, although there were some devices that were not included in the discovery."
"When servers have two network adapters, automatically discovered will be only one network card because the other one is a backup. Device42 has some problems to find the other connection."
"The only thing which I have noticed so far that is not good is that we had an issue with some reporting from the tool, reporting we had to export. We couldn't do it in the way we wanted to, so we tried to reach out to their support but it took pretty long until we understood how we can manage the reports. We still haven't received a complete explanation of what we need to do and how to do it."
"The resources table needs a few tweaks. We've raised a feature request for this. When you click on resources, it opens up the entire CMDB or the entire data stored in Device42. If that could be customizable, it would be good. We should be allowed to add our own columns to that by writing a script or something like that. An additional feature I'd like to see in Infoblox IPAM is zero-touch provisioning in terms of the appliances. Currently, there's zero-touch provisioning for cloud-based devices, but for physical appliances in branches, there's none, so you still have to do some configurations. For example, if you have existing DNS infrastructure and you need to set up Infoblox IPAM in new branches, and you need more appliances, you should be able to just plug the solution into the network, and there shouldn't be any manual interference required."

"I am not involved in its pricing, but I have seen their plans during a discussion with the customer. For 500 servers, they were asking 50,000 USD. The cost of BMC Discovery was less than half.
