Accurate, reliable, and easy to integrate
Pros and Cons
  • "Its integration is very easy."
  • "The implementation can be quite technical."

What is our primary use case?

It's mainly for financial institutions and customers. These customers are all using Cloud Native types of applications, whether it is Oracle Fusion or whether it's AWS. We are using the solution to handle the APIs.

What is most valuable?

Its integration is very easy.

The accuracy is relatively high.

It is stable and reliable.

The product can scale well.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. It’s reliable, and the performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn’t crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is definitely scalable. It’s not a problem to expand it. If a company wants to, it can scale the product.

One client usually has about 1,000 assets to scan.

How are customer service and support?

I’ve never had to use technical support. So far, the solution has been trouble-free.

How was the initial setup?

My engineer can complete an installation in one or two days. I don't directly deal with it as it's quite complex. You need to be technical. It’s not for non-technical people.

We have five people that can handle deployment and maintenance. They are systems and ops engineers.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution to other users and organizations.

I’d rate the solution seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A stable and widely accepted solution
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup for the production areas was on premise, which is very simple."
  • "It has been a couple of years since I contacted support. However, at that time, it was difficult to get someone on the call even though it was an issue of high severity."

What is our primary use case?

We use the hybrid version of Microsoft Azure Block Storage. We have a client based in the UK who utilizes the hybrid cloud. We also have a couple of archiving solutions there, as well as NetApp on TapCloud.

The NFS solution goes into that, deployment is purely on the Azure cloud. The production areas and archiving solutions are mostly done on-premises, while testing and application development in some areas is purely cloud-based.

Block storage is used for the data that is configured for our servers. We have it for auditing purposes and as a compliance method.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft Azure Block Storage is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As for scalability, we use other archiving solutions, NetApp on TapCloud, for example, because there are some limitations with capacity unless you extend the terabytes of data.

How are customer service and support?

It has been a couple of years since I contacted support. However, at that time, it was difficult to get someone on the call even though it was an issue of high severity.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for the production areas was on-premises, which is very simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Azure Block Storage is higher priced than its competitors. It is costly. The pricing is difficult to calculate as there are different tiers to select from.

What other advice do I have?

Microsoft Azure Block Storage is widely accepted. People are choosing the enterprise solution. I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

  • "The most valuable feature of Microsoft Azure Block Storage is the security and the management of user access from on-premise to the cloud."
  • "Microsoft Azure Block Storage could improve by allowing the switching of the hot tier to the cold tier."

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Microsoft Azure Block Storage is the security and the management of user access from on-premise to the cloud.

What needs improvement?

Microsoft Azure Block Storage could improve by allowing the switching of the hot tier to the cold tier.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Azure Block Storage for approximately five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft Azure Block Storage is stable.

A solution with an easy integration and straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
  • "The ease of integration with services like CDN and computing makes it compelling and cost-effective."
  • "We have not had the best experience with customer service and support."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is deployed on public cloud.

What is most valuable?

Besides compression and encryption, the ease of integration with services like CDN and computing makes it compelling and cost-effective.

What needs improvement?

Encryption, data analytics and behaviour analytics can be improved. Encryption and usage analytics optimization, built into the setup, can take it to the next level.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for four years and are currently using the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution, but it has a high variability factor. I rate the stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. As a consulting and services company, we implement solutions for customers. Over 50 customers use this solution in our organization. Regarding maintenance, one is enough if it is within the same timezone because there is significantly less administrative overhead on Blob Storage. Unless there are complex workloads requiring operational tasks to be done, we can add more people. But from an organizational standpoint, one is enough.

How are customer service and support?

We have not had the best experience with customer service and support. I rate them an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the pricing an eight out of ten, with ten being the highest and one being the lowest. The price could be slightly lower because there has not been a price revision. They should revise prices, but they've not done that. Since we captured enough markets, they don't care anymore.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated S3 before choosing this solution. S3 has a wider adoption. Other than that, technically, I do not see much of a difference between both. They have similar functionalities.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend this solution to other users. I rate this solution an eight out of ten. The solution is good, but improvements can be made to behaviour analytics and data encryption.

It performs well with large files
Pros and Cons
  • "The most important reason we use Azure Block Storage is the ability to store large files. When we were building the solution, we knew we needed to store images and video files that are 100 MBs or more. The second thing is speed when dealing with such large file sizes."
  • "There should be a discount on Block Storage for people who use it more often."

What is our primary use case?

We deployed our website on Azure, and Block Storage is for storing large objects. We use Azure Block Storage for embedded videos that any person coming on the website needs to use.

What is most valuable?

The most important reason we use Azure Block Storage is the ability to store large files. When we were building the solution, we knew we needed to store images and video files that are 100 MBs or more. The second thing is speed when dealing with such large file sizes.

What needs improvement?

It would be nice if the Azure Block Storage could integrate with microservices-based mobile apps, too.

For how long have I used the solution?

We started using Azure Block Storage for a project two or three weeks ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Block Storage is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can't say much about scalability because these are small projects, so it's not like we've utilized Block Storage for a million users. We only have a few hundred users.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process is pretty straightforward.  The documentation from Microsoft is clear enough for anyone to set up a storage account. Two or three people are enough to maintain the solution we've built. It's a stable solution that more or less works on its own.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There should be a discount on Block Storage for people who use it more often. Right now we pay somewhere around maybe 30,000 rupees monthly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Most of our solutions are built on Azure, so that is our first choice. However, we also considered AWS Storage Services. We thought about using the AWS S3 bucket, but our in-house team mostly has experience on Azure, we stuck with that. I think the Azure documentation is easier to understand than AWS's, so that's the main advantage. The costs are more or less the same.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Azure Block Storage eight out of 10. My biggest concern is the pricing.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Microsoft Azure
