vCenter Configuration Manager Reviews

Our company uses the solution to check our sites and control machines. We have two separate systems and 100 users. 

The solution has great SRM, HA, and DRS features. 

The platform is straightforward and user friendly. A large knowledge base is not required to begin using it. 

Knowledge-based tests are offered and are useful in building skills.  

The solution needs to add its own backup system because it has issues integrating with third-party solutions. 

Chinese-owned companies that do not align with the solution's American systems are blocked. Some companies have a few Chinese-owned shares so struggle to obtain licenses.

I have been using the solution for seven years. 

The solution itself is stable but we have issues when using a third-party products for backups. We get many snapshot errors when connecting with IBM Spectrum Protect. 

The solution is scalable. 

I have occasionally used technical support and rate it a nine out of ten.

The setup is straightforward and deployment takes about 30 minutes. 

Our environment includes two systems. I set up one and a consultant set up the other.

Maintenance is easy for two of our system engineers. 

The pricing is mid-range so I rate it a six out of ten. 

I have used many different platforms during my career but the solution has always stood out. 

I rate the solution a nine out of ten. 

We use Configuration Manager for our production servers. We only have two users, and they're both admins.

Configuration Manager has allowed us to reduce the number of admins needed from three to one.

Configuration Manager simplifies management. Cloning via live migration is a useful feature. 

Configuration Manager's reporting could be better. I need to use a third-party reporting solution to get the details. They could add reporting features similar to RVTools. 

We've used vCenter Configuration Manager for one year.

Configuration Manger is highly dependable.

We haven't faced any limitations so far. We have a large footprint, with around 35 servers, so it's used extensively. Right now, we're in the process of consolidation, so the usage will likely go down a little bit. Right now, we're using it for around 10 hours a week.

I previously used Microsoft Hyper-V. We switched to this because it has more features for managing enterprise-level infrastructure.

Setting up Configuration Manager was pretty straightforward. It took a couple of months to get everything squared away. It required two people to set up. 

I used a consultant, but he decided not to make it. He doesn't want to be included in it.

We pay a monthly subscription, but I don't have the numbers. The only cost besides the license is the expense of maintaining the servers. 

I rate vCenter Configuration Manager nine out of 10. I recommend it to others. Don't waste time with other solutions. Just use this.

I am not part of VMware Live Recovery (VLR) operation because I have just moved to the cloud.

The tool was beneficial for our company. We work mostly in the banking sector, so that is why we are using it. In India, basically, in the banking sector, we do not use particular open-source products, so the tool is beneficial for us.

From my perspective, I won't recommend any changes in the operations associated with VMware Live Recovery (VLR).

The tool needs to improve its interface.

I have been using vCenter Configuration Manager for more than six months to a year. I use the solution in my company as a customer of the tool.

I have not participated in the implementation of vCenter Configuration Manager. I only participate in the tool's implementation if I continuously participate in the operations associated with VMware Live Recovery (VLR). As of now, I am not working with VMware Live Recovery (VLR).

I am satisfied with vCenter Configuration Manager.

Right now, we are not facing any issues with the tool. If we are facing any issues with the tool, we have raised a ticket with VMware's team.

I am not familiar with the tool's AI capabilities.

There are so many more options in the market.

If any company mostly works on open-source products, I won't recommend the tool to such people.

I rate the tool a seven to eight out of ten.

I use it for configuring systems in the food industry.

It's challenging to pinpoint the single most valuable feature since there are several that I find highly important and interesting. I particularly appreciate the reporting capabilities, as they allow for in-depth analysis of logs and the ability to interpret alerts effectively, enabling informed responses.

The primary global issue that I've encountered during my many years working in IT, both in basic implementations and operator-level tasks, is a universal challenge and it evolves around the user interface, or more precisely, the lack of user-friendliness in IT systems. The speed at which technology evolves, new categories emerge, and customer expectations, especially in cybersecurity, are exceptionally high. Many major industry players like VMware, Microsoft, and Oracle often fall short in software coding and the smooth release of new versions. The second significant challenge relates to automation features and reports. These elements should be more consolidated and should transition from text-based to graphical representations to make them more understandable for decision-makers and eliminate the need for administrators to scour the internet for best practices and knowledge.

I have been working with it for twelve years.

It offers exceptional stability capabilities. I would rate it ten out of ten.

It's highly scalable, and I would rate it ten out of ten in that regard. It is suitable for organizations with well over a thousand employees, which qualifies as a large-scale deployment.

The initial setup was a relatively smooth process, and I'm generally satisfied with it. I would rate it nine out of ten.

The basic deployment typically takes around two days, and after making necessary adjustments and some minor modifications, it extends to about a week.

While the pricing is reasonable for large corporations, it presents a substantial financial challenge for medium-sized businesses. This high cost can deter smaller enterprises from acquiring the product, even if they are interested in it. I would rate it five out of ten.

Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

Its purpose is to manage virtualization environments.

vCenter alone is enough for me because vCenter is a cluster environment and cluster solution for virtualization environments. So, vCenter is enough.

There is room for improvement in operating and managing cluster environments and maintenance. And hardware environment visibility.

I have used this solution for ten years. 

It is a stable product. 

It is scalable enough for our company.

The customer service and support are good. The recommendations given by support are good.

We take help from a third-party vendor to provide technical support to the users while deploying individual machines on the server.

The product generates a good return on investment for us.

It is an expensive product. We have a permanent license for it. We pay for upgrades.

I recommend vCenter Configuration Manager to others and rate it a nine out of ten.

vCenter Configuration Manager could improve by having more integration.

The price of the solution is too expensive for us and we are looking to move to another solution.

I would recommend this solution to others, it has worked very well for me.

I rate vCenter Configuration Manager a ten out of ten.

What I like is the ability to spin up a virtual machine from an image, which makes my backup policy much easier.

The solution is stable and reliable. 

There is always room for improvement. The VxRail configuration is very complicated and a little bit too difficult to guess what the final product is going to be.

The product needs better integration with security tools. It's a feature that you wouldn't need to have for something like Cisco or that type of thing. Something of that magnitude would already be built into the product.

I don't use it myself. I'm just designing the system. My specialty is SIEM and analytics tools. I don't really touch that.

The stability is good. It does what it is meant to do without issues. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable. 

I can't speak about the process involved in the initial setup. It's not really my job to spin it up and make it work, so to speak. I'm just there to use it and help people to configure it. If need be, there are infrastructure people for that.

The pricing goes back to the configuration. Sometimes for weeks, to work, you need to buy your machines - and those are pretty reasonable.

We do work for government entities. We are not really a reseller. We just say, "This is what you need to build. This is what we advise you to build in." Eventually, whichever government organization we are working for is going to decide what they're going to take according to which country it is. I'm the Solutions Architect.

For what is currently being used in our organization, I would rate it an eight out of ten. We're mostly happy with its capabilities.
