Broadcom was founded by a professor-student pair Henry Samueli and Henry T. Nicholas III from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991. In 1995, the company moved from its Westwood, Los Angeles, office to Irvine, California. In 1998, Broadcom became a public company on the NASDAQ exchange and now employs approximately 11,750 people worldwide in more than 15 countries.

The company is separated into 2 businesses: TmaxSoft and TmaxData. Currently, TmaxData is run as an affiliated company. The company started as a middleware solution provider. It is now the largest provider of enterprise software systems in South Korea, as of 2007 and is a member of the JCP. Its middleware products include Tmax, JEUS, and the WebtoB. Other products include Tibero, ProSync, Sysmaster, ProFrame, OpenFrame, and big data solutions.
