Cheap, easy to install, and used for hosting security components
Pros and Cons
  • "We use Amazon Lightsail for hosting security components in-house and AI modules."
  • "When you need to add some custom rules to Amazon Lightsail, the auto scaling feature is a bit difficult."

What is most valuable?

We use Amazon Lightsail for hosting security components in-house and AI modules.

What needs improvement?

When you need to add some custom rules to Amazon Lightsail, the auto scaling feature is a bit difficult. You can create custom rules while using a Lambda function or EC2 EKS cluster, but it's not feasible to do so in Amazon Lightsail.

For how long have I used the solution?

We are a service-based organization, and we have been using Amazon Lightsail for more than three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

If your organization's DevOps team has good troubleshooting skills, you can easily manage stability issues by creating custom scripts.

I rate the solution nine and a half out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

You cannot implement a Lambda function and custom rules in Amazon Lightsail. When an application's specific process or service takes time and too much load, taking a network-based or IOPS-based autoscaling is not feasible.

I rate the solution seven and a half out of ten for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support team assists you as per the SLAs. The support gets a bit delayed for beginners.

I rate the solution’s technical support six and a half out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup is easy and takes around one to two days for someone with a background in SDA or Linux administration. Since it is UI-based, the solution's installation is easy to learn.

What about the implementation team?

The solution's deployment takes five to ten minutes. We implement zero-downtime deployment as well.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Amazon Lightsail is a bit cheaper than Amazon EC2. Amazon Lightsail is a cheap solution for startups.

What other advice do I have?

Amazon Lightsail makes it easy to deploy any application on any cloud. You do not need to set up the whole website. Instead, you can just drag and drop your applications. I would recommend Amazon Lightsail to users who do not have much traffic. Amazon Lightsail is a bit cheaper than Amazon EC2.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Good usability and customer service for a reasonable price
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are the usability and customer service."
  • "I don't see this solution as enterprise-ready, for bigger companies like banks."

What is our primary use case?

We were using Amazon Lightsail to reduce our on-premises cost and also to make it available for use anytime and anywhere.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the usability and customer service.

What needs improvement?

In the next release, they need better integration with Oracle, Big Data systems, and DevOps. In general, with new serverless technology and microservices architecture, they need to do more on an enterprise scale. As it is now, I see this as a PoC or at a basic consumer level. I don't see this solution as enterprise-ready, for bigger companies like banks.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon Lightsail for between five and six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Lightsail is fairly stable, I'd say. We did have an issue with stability, although it was not with Amazon rather, it was with how we were deploying on Amazon.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support was quite good. I found that they were available, although I'm not sure that they were actually able to solve our problem.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Oracle but I have not compared the pricing between the two.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The services that it provides are good for the price.

What other advice do I have?

This solution is still new in terms of containerized platforms. If you have your own vendor then Amazon may or may not support that. One of the biggest issues is the technology that is not supported on Amazon, which means that you can't migrate to the cloud.

My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is that it is suitable for SaaS services. On the other hand, for IaaS, I would say that it shouldn't be used for financially critical data. The reason is that there is no security compliance. For example, your account information and confidential data should not be moved to this system. On the other hand, if it is analytics with simple, non-critical reports, then it is fine.

Every cloud provider has its own plusses and minuses. In some areas, I would rate this solution a ten out of ten, while in other areas I would rate it a three.

Overall, I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

An affordable solution to prepare the environment for production and similar tasks
Pros and Cons
  • "EC2 instances are pre-configured and upgraded, so you can simply select and instantly pay for an EC2 instance to set up WordPress, Node.js, or a server container using Docker."
  • "The solution could be smoother than it is."

What is our primary use case?

Lightsail is easier to set up and prepare the environment for production and similar tasks.

What is most valuable?

EC2 instances are pre-configured and upgraded, so you can simply select and instantly pay for an EC2 instance to set up WordPress, Node.js, or a server container using Docker.

You can configure the server settings and network settings easily.

What needs improvement?

The solution could be smoother than it is.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Amazon Lightsail for two to three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Amazon Lightsail guarantees 99.9% uptime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Twenty employees use this solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and takes five minutes to complete. Two cloud engineer can handle the deployment.

I rate the initial setup a ten out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

What was our ROI?

The tool works pretty well. The instance is working well, and the price is good. We can achieve scalability like AWS at a lower cost. We can accommodate more clients at a lower cost.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product has a good price.

What other advice do I have?

The user interface is good. I never encountered any problems or issues using the application.

I strongly recommend the solution.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Eliminates the need for manual certificate configuration and requires minimal maintenance
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the product's most valuable features is its fixed pricing, which makes it ideal for small projects and websites that do not require scaling."
  • "The product's network features need enhancement."

What is our primary use case?

I deploy Linux machines and web pages such as Joomla and WordPress using the product. I have also deployed basic web pages using HTML, CSS, and a bit of JavaScript.

What is most valuable?

One of the product's most valuable features is its fixed pricing, which makes it ideal for small projects and websites that do not require scaling. For larger applications or projects that need to scale, I recommend using EC2 or Lambda instead.

What needs improvement?

The product's network features need enhancement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Lightsail for approximately two years.

How was the initial setup?

If you are familiar with AWS, I rate the initial setup process as a nine. The web-based command line feature is especially useful because it eliminates the need for manual certificate configuration.

It requires minimal maintenance. I occasionally update the Linux environment, but the service is highly stable overall.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

A few months ago, Lightsail's pricing increased, likely due to the addition of the new VPC feature. However, I still believe that it offers excellent value compared to other services on the market.

What other advice do I have?

The solution's networking features are basic, but the response times are excellent. These features are more than adequate for small-scale projects, and I have not needed to configure advanced options such as regions or VPNs.

Overall, I rate it a ten out of ten.
