Based on highly scalable and available infrastructure, it helps set limits and control costs
Pros and Cons
  • "Cost management is the console's most valuable feature."
  • "All the offers should be on the console. You shouldn't need to select from different tabs."

What is our primary use case?

Cost Management is used to control your bills by setting limits. Sometimes, there are some offers from Microsoft for better pricing when we utilize the solution on log files, such as if we are making some reservation to reserve resources for a long time.

What is most valuable?

Cost management is the console's most valuable feature.

What needs improvement?

All the offers should be on the console. You shouldn't need to select from different tabs. You shouldn't need to go to each resource and check if it is there or not. You should be able to understand the reservation by doing it from one console. There should be a centralized console.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked with the console for four or five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. Microsoft manages everything as a portal, so it is stable and flexible, and availability is always high.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft manages its infrastructure, so we don't need to handle scalability. It is scalable all the time. All my customers use it.

How are customer service and support?

They provide support for this type of product.

How was the initial setup?

The console is already configured by default. If you want to configure it, you can, but there's nothing else.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Azure has a high price. It is not designed for small, individual companies, only enterprise companies. You are charged based on how much you use the solution.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the console a nine out of ten.

Detects and addresses unexpected cloud expenditures
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the fact that you can set alerts on the predicted cost in Azure Cost Management."
  • "The solution's technical support should be faster, more knowledgeable, and customer-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We use Azure Cost Management to minimize cloud costs.

What is most valuable?

I like the fact that you can set alerts on the predicted cost in Azure Cost Management. Before the cost reaches a limit, you can send out a warning that costs are predicted to exceed a threshold.

What needs improvement?

The solution's technical support should be faster, more knowledgeable, and customer-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Azure Cost Management for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I’ve never had any issues with the solution’s stability.

I rate Azure Cost Management ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Azure Cost Management is a scalable solution. More than 30 customers are using the solution in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

I have had pretty bad experiences with the solution's technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup was quite easy because it was enabled by default.

What about the implementation team?

A small team of five people is needed to deploy and maintain the solution.

What was our ROI?

With Azure Cost Management, companies can detect and address unexpected cloud expenditures.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Azure Cost Management is a free cost management tool.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Azure Cost Management, we evaluated CloudCheckr and CloudHealth. The main difference between them and Azure Cost Management is multi-cloud support.

What other advice do I have?

Azure Cost Management is a cloud-based solution.

I would recommend Azure Cost Management to other users because it's a free cost management tool you can use rather than buy a third-party tool. Azure Cost Management is available out of the box and does what it's supposed to be doing. Some third-party tools have more capabilities, but you don't really need those.

Overall, I rate Azure Cost Management an eight out of ten.

Extremely scalable and user-friendly
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable aspect of Azure Cost Management for me is the cost-saving recommendations based on our usage patterns."
  • "It would be beneficial if Azure Cost Management could automatically generate budget rules using AI insights, eliminating the need for manual configuration."

What is our primary use case?

I use Azure Cost Management to keep track of how much we spend on our contact center solution, specifically the implementation of Wirespot using ChatGPT.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of Azure Cost Management for me is the cost-saving recommendations based on our usage patterns. It is a quick and easy way to optimize spending without diving into the nitty-gritty.

What needs improvement?

In terms of improvement, it would be beneficial if Azure Cost Management could automatically generate budget rules using AI insights, eliminating the need for manual configuration. This would make budgeting more efficient and advanced. In the next version, I hope for better AI to spot anomalies in our usage. Also, it would be great if the budget management could include a console for managing projects within departments and sub-departments, especially for cross-department projects.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Azure Cost Management for almost four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Azure Cost Management is excellent. There are no issues or downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate Azure's ability to scale at about seven out of ten. It generally works well, but with high volumes, especially in Azure Kubernetes for our mobile app with eighteen million users, there are some scalability challenges that we have noticed. We have approximately 20 users at our company.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate Microsoft's technical support around a six out of ten. It varies by team, but often it seems they're more focused on selling products than providing solutions, which can be a bit frustrating.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

When comparing Azure Cost Management with a similar product in AWS, I find Azure to be more user-friendly. Both platforms offer similar functionality, but the user experience in Azure is more convenient and straightforward for me.

What was our ROI?

By simply clicking and implementing the solution's suggestions, we have managed to cut down on hidden charges and unnecessary expenses, ultimately saving a lot of money for our contact center solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would rate the costliness of Azure Cost Management as a five out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Azure Cost Management as a seven out of ten. It is a great product with some room for improvement.

Easy to use but needs more user-friendly GUI
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is straightforward."
  • "There are certainly areas for improvement in terms of labeling the inventory. That's because right now, we use a number of services. But it's difficult when you look at the billing limiters and how they are named. We can't correlate those names to the actual services there. So, I can't click on an item and see if I'm still using this service or not. So it just rolls up and gives me values and figures, but I can't really correlate them to actual services on the Azure platform."

What is our primary use case?

We use it to manage our costs, setting triggers in case our costs go over budget based on our usage. So, it's primarily for our Azure usage and not for any other external costs.

It's not something we use every day. The features are somewhat limited. I mainly use it to check the overall cost of the services we use.

What needs improvement?

There are certainly areas for improvement in terms of labeling the inventory. That's because right now, we use a number of services. But it's difficult when you look at the billing limiters and how they are named. We can't correlate those names to the actual services there. So, I can't click on an item and see if I'm still using this service or not. So it just rolls up and gives me values and figures, but I can't really correlate them to actual services on the Azure platform.

A more user-friendly interface that helps me associate the values I see with specific services on the Azure platform. It gives more options because there are probably services that I should not be using now, and that wouldn't have an impact on my overall cloud environment. But I can't really correlate it to the values I see on the metering with those particular services. So it's difficult for me to find the service. "I don't want to use this one, I want to add more of that," that kind of thing.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution since 2013. Azure App Service is why we continue using Azure. We want our test partners to fully utilize Azure. It started with Azure App Service. We were using more of the cloud services initially, and then we moved to app services once they launched.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have a small team, so there are only two end users for this solution.

How are customer service and support?

We have not contacted support for Azure Cost Management. We use the features as we see it. So, of course, we have provided feedback in the past, suggesting features to add, but we haven't contacted support directly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We chose this solution because it came bundled with Azure, so it's just the tool we have. We have also looked into other tools like Shagit, which had many better features. But, the company discontinued that tool, so we couldn't continue using it.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. There really isn't much else to do. It's quite straightforward. You just click to use, and it's ready to go.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing is not bad. It's aligned with the tool, so it doesn't come across as a big cost. It's bundled in with the package. I have it as part of the package.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend using this solution.

Overall, I would rate the solution a seven out of ten.

A good, but limited cost information solution with strong analytics but requiring more flexibility in its reporting functionality
Pros and Cons
  • "We find the analytics available via this solution to be very useful, as it allows us to easily see detailed cost information for each of our various subscription elements."
  • "We would like to see more flexibility added to this solution, such as being able to compare reservations, or compare costs across multiple financial years and report on the reasons for deviation in spend."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution to provide various cost information from across our organization.

What is most valuable?

We find the analytics available via this solution to be very useful, as it allows us to easily see detailed cost information for each of our various subscription elements.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see more flexibility added to this solution, such as being able to compare reservations, or compare costs across multiple financial years and report on the reasons for deviation in spend.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been working with this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have found this product to be mostly stable during our time using it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have found this solution to have limited scalability, as it will only work along with other modules from the main product.

How was the initial setup?

The setup and deployment for this tool is very easy and straightforward, as it is automatically installed with the main software.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

As this product is part of a larger, main solution, the cost is part of the main license fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated other options, such as CloudHealth, but as this is a module that is part of a larger solution that we use, this product provided more seamless usage.

What other advice do I have?

We would recommend that organizations ensure they use the tools in conjunction with third-party software, so that they can maximize the potential benefits to be gained.

We would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Helps to manage cost proactively and efficiently
Pros and Cons
  • "The interface is good and user-friendly, allowing us to manage it proactively and efficiently. We use the budgeting and forecasting functions for financial planning, which work fine."
  • "I'd like to see improvements in tracking billing and costs. It would be helpful to have alerts generated by instance and location. We use the cloud for multiple programs, and it's difficult to segregate costs and get budgets from customers. We have to tag each instance, which is time-consuming. Automation and proactive alerts by instance or instance IDs would be beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

I use Azure Cost Management mostly for customer demos and internal use. Our monthly cost is about 4000-5000 dollars.

What is most valuable?

The interface is good and user-friendly, allowing us to manage it proactively and efficiently. We use the budgeting and forecasting functions for financial planning, which work fine.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see improvements in tracking billing and costs. It would be helpful to have alerts generated by instance and location. We use the cloud for multiple programs, and it's difficult to segregate costs and get budgets from customers. We have to tag each instance, which is time-consuming. Automation and proactive alerts by instance or instance IDs would be beneficial.

I think some automation can be done to make the interface more user-friendly. We need holistic retail features about the cost. For example, if we have an overall expense of 20,000 dollars for August, we get a critical breakdown by instance size and service size. But this comes in a common pool, as general data, not specific to each instance. We've configured resources and add-on services tagged to instances, but there should be a mechanism to download these details when someone needs them automatically.

Sometimes, customers ask about their exact usage out of the total cost, and it's difficult to convince them. We don't have such a mechanism available in the interface. We have to manually do it in Excel and get it approved by them. These are the main points I'd like to see improved. It would be much easier if we could get instance-specific breakdowns automatically rather than having to compile this information manually.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the product's stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool's scalability an eight out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used AWS Cost Explorer but find the product to be more fast.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple but needs to be more accurate and have better data security. I've been managing it for two years and still struggle with the manual work.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten - the price could be lower.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I'd rate Azure Cost Management eight out of ten. We recommend it to our clients and customers.

A free solution offered to Azure cloud customers via the Azure portal
Pros and Cons
  • "Billing management is self-explanatory. There isn't a specific feature that stands out, but it's a fundamental aspect that needs to be present."
  • "There are significant issues with Power BI integration at the moment, particularly with built-in applications for course management. Multiple features don't allow for efficient report generation. This is one primary concern. The second issue relates to reporting, even when using Power BI templates for course management. There are problems with data import that require manual entry. So, these are the two main challenges I'm currently facing. Another matter to consider is the removal of the markup option for partners. I'm not sure if it will be added back, but it used to allow marking up Azure usage for enterprise customers. I'm uncertain if there's an alternative way to achieve the same function. Partners need to mark up services when selling to customers, and it's currently unavailable for some products or services."

What is our primary use case?

Basically, they provide licenses to customers who already have an Azure subscription. They send these licenses to customers based on their needs, either extracting them from the partner center or group management or then delivering them, often through email. Additionally, for the Dental Connection system, APIs support the automated delivery of licenses to customers. On another note, when addressing billing concerns, there are instances where customers claim they've been overcharged by varying amounts, such as a hundred, five hundred, or even a thousand dollars. In such cases, they examine cost management to investigate these charges.

What is most valuable?

Billing management is self-explanatory. There isn't a specific feature that stands out, but it's a fundamental aspect that needs to be present.

What needs improvement?

There are significant issues with Power BI integration at the moment, particularly with built-in applications for course management.

Partners need to mark up services when selling to customers, and it's currently unavailable for some products or services.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Azure Cost Management for quite sometime.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is 10 out of 10.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is not needed.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is lacking in terms of response time and effectiveness. The response times are quite lengthy, and the support team's ability to address complex issues is questionable. While they may be suitable for straightforward problems, when it comes to more intricate issues, the support often falls short of expectations. This applies across various support levels, including Microsoft Premier, unified support, basic, and standard.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We solely utilize Azure Cost Management for overseeing our Azure services, so we haven't explored any competing solutions.

How was the initial setup?

No custom setup is required for most cases. The only situation where setup may be needed is when working with a Microsoft CSV partner and running automation. In such cases, some configurations may be necessary.

Furthermore, deploying this to Azure Management Services is a straightforward process. It's a built-in feature or service within Azure, so there's no need to go through a separate deployment process. It's readily available with every subscription.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing isn't applicable as it's included with the subscription. It depends on the services used. If you acquire any services on Azure, you pay for the subscription, and the billing or cost management is included for free.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate it 9 out of 10.
