Cost-efficient, good analytics, and stable
Since our application is hosted in the cloud, there is no need for installation. I can simply access the portal and navigate to App Insights for easy access. I give the initial setup a ten out of ten. The deployment took approximately 24 hours to complete due to the large amount of data that had to be transferred. We had about fifteen people involved in the configuration, with two main people taking the lead and the rest on standby in case something happened.

Unified log analytics has transformed security monitoring and cuts breach detection to minutes
Splunk Cloud Platform has areas for improvement, including the fact that it is obviously an enterprise tool and can be expensive, which is the biggest complaint I have noted. Costs can rise due to high data ingestion and long retention periods, along with a complex licensing structure that makes pricing difficult to predict as usage grows, especially since more systems send logs. There are also performance concerns at scale where users have reported slower searches and expensive long-term storage needs, particularly in multi-terabyte environments. Additionally, operational complexity exists as enterprises still need to do data onboarding, create dashboards, handle retention policies, access control, and performance tuning. These are the three key areas of improvement I have identified.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of the solution is analytics."
"In my organization, Splunk Cloud Platform has improved the issue revolving around transactions."
"Splunk Cloud Platform has greatly improved my daily operations through enhanced integration with third-party tools."
"After Splunk Cloud Platform was introduced to us, we saved a considerable amount of time, and our team size went from more than 300 people to less than 30 people over five years because fewer employees are needed and we spend little effort since logs track everything and help us in our day-to-day tasks."
"Since Splunk Cloud Platform is a fully managed service, there is no need to handle servers, upgrades, or maintenance."
"Splunk helped reduce our mean time to resolve by around 60%."
"The most valuable feature is we don't have to deal with any back-end server maintenance because the solution is cloud-based."
"For my current requirements, the tool theme seems to be meeting my requirements, from a cost and requirements perspective."
"Operationally, Splunk Cloud Platform has provided wide observability where we had almost none before, significantly improving our security posture and our ability to defend the organization."

Cons

"The UI of the solution is not user-friendly and has room for improvement."
"The Splunk Cloud Platform dashboard could benefit from some improvements."
"For betterment, there is definitely a cost concern."
"We're interested in learning more about the new AI features, especially the natural language to SPL conversion."
"Some of the implementation is challenging. They're not very proxy-aware."
"We face occasional downtime issues where when we try to scale up, we face a considerable amount of challenges."
"Sometimes, the technical support case persons are not sufficiently technical; they are not technical enough or not understanding the issues."
"When one of my customers needs an app, and I am able to find that app on the Splunk base, I have to create a ticket and wait for five days for them to download the app into the cloud environment. That is probably one of the main things. It is painful because I have to wait to get that app in the cloud."
"There are a lot of functionalities that are missing for Splunk Cloud hosted on GCP but they are available on AWS. Adding more IPs to allow lists and many other functionalities are not supported on Splunk Cloud hosted on GCP. One good example is the ingest action which is not there in Splunk Cloud hosted on GCP. I wish they would add these missing features to the GCP platform."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is cost-efficient and I give it an eight out of ten."
"I do not have much idea. We previously used 1 GB at the cost of $600. Both on-prem and cloud licenses have the same price. There is no difference. It did not impact the cost because the costs of the on-prem license and the cloud license are the same. We did not have any issues with that. Overall, its price is reasonable."
"It is not that expensive."
"As far as the pricing goes, it was what was expected. It is a premium product. There were no surprises there."
"The Splunk Cloud Platform is expensive."
"There are additional features that you would need to purchase depending on your use case."
"The licensing is based on the amount of data that we send to the cloud on a daily basis."
"I am familiar with the pricing and licensing model a little bit. I am not sure about the particulars of the actual price that we have, but I do like the idea of going towards a more CPU-based approach rather than the ingest approach because it allows us the ability to ingest more data if we need it."
"The certifications are costly."
