Have saved significant operational costs and streamlined alert-driven analytics with customizable dashboards
I definitely see some disadvantages in Apache Superset, particularly in the tagging feature which is not up to the mark, creating a little bit of mess for the administrators. We work with a Role-Based Access Control feature in the product. I assess this feature as good; they have permissions which are in more plain English, but there is a little bit of convenience missed out because if I have to create a super user apart from admin, I need to add all the permissions manually.

Unified log analytics has transformed security monitoring and cuts breach detection to minutes
Splunk Cloud Platform has areas for improvement, including the fact that it is obviously an enterprise tool and can be expensive, which is the biggest complaint I have noted. Costs can rise due to high data ingestion and long retention periods, along with a complex licensing structure that makes pricing difficult to predict as usage grows, especially since more systems send logs. There are also performance concerns at scale where users have reported slower searches and expensive long-term storage needs, particularly in multi-terabyte environments. Additionally, operational complexity exists as enterprises still need to do data onboarding, create dashboards, handle retention policies, access control, and performance tuning. These are the three key areas of improvement I have identified.

Pros

"When you click on any chart, you can apply the filter without any effort."
"I see savings from using Apache Superset in both time and money, particularly with the cost reduced by roughly 99% compared to Tableau where we previously paid almost 50k annually."
"The most valuable feature of Apache Superset is the easy way to configure dashboards as reports or analyses and it's easy to use and intuitive. Users do not need a lot of training to use the solution."
"The main benefit I have seen from working with Apache Superset so far is the speed from discovery and SQL to making charts and dashboards, along with its customizability."
"Being able to quickly build standard dashboards around relational data in Apache Superset provides tremendous visibility for everyone on the team."
"It's very easy, reliable, and trustable because it's an Apache open-source product."
"Apache Superset allows us to set up alerts; for instance, if the failure rate exceeds 1.5%, we receive an alert to address the issue with our integration partners."
"The no-code interface is the most valuable as it allows us to operate without constant support from the data engineering team, fostering a self-service environment."
"The Splunk Cloud Platform has reduced our mean time to resolve. It has easily saved 20 to 30 minutes every time someone gets locked out. We get 10 or 15 instances per day where people get locked out. It definitely saves a few hours per day."
"As compared to other tools, it is very easy. It is very easy to learn. It also integrates well."
"I can trace an event back to its root cause. I can find the root cause instead of just looking at the symptoms across different things."
"UBA is a great application within Splunk Cloud Platform."
"In my organization, Splunk Cloud Platform has improved the issue revolving around transactions."
"The ROI with Splunk Cloud Platform is on the higher part, as it has improved the efficiency of our overall organization, increased incident response time to any failure by more than 50 percent, and enhanced the overall visibility of the system, architecture, and infrastructure by consolidating all of our data on one platform."
"The real-time search capability of this product enhances operational decision-making, and it's very convincing."
"One unique feature with Splunk Cloud Platform is that it can be used not only for log creation but also for creating dashboards, including visual representations like pie charts that show how many hits each service receives and how many users contribute to those hits, enabling higher management to make informed decisions about which services to focus on."

Cons

"With Apache Superset, we had some problems with the permissions when we had too many users."
"Apache Superset could be improved by enhancing its interactivity and engagement capabilities."
"Dark mode would be the main thing I would like; it does not really work because the chart text cannot be white in a dark mode setup, so it is not feasible."
"Dynamic dashboarding could improve to enable smooth navigation when transitioning from a higher to a lower view, allowing for easy accessibility."
"Building a full-fledged product or software as a service might be cumbersome due to performance limitations."
"The platform's reporting feature needs enhancement."
"Building a full-fledged product or software as a service might be cumbersome due to performance limitations."
"I definitely see some disadvantages in Apache Superset, particularly in the tagging feature which is not up to the mark, creating a little bit of mess for the administrators."
"The pricing model makes the product costly."
"In the case of knowledge objects, even a Splunk admin does not have access to delete them. If we want to remove a knowledge object, we need to contact Splunk support and raise a case. After that, they delete it. They should give us access to delete knowledge objects."
"The pricing models should be improved and optimized. Right now, the pricing is a bit too expensive."
"Splunk Cloud Platform has areas for improvement, including the fact that it is obviously an enterprise tool and can be expensive, which is the biggest complaint I have noted."
"The administration could use improvement. We have to rely on support more often than we're used to."
"The only thing I would say is an issue is the cost. It matches other products. The costs can be justified for the value that we gain. The entire threat analysis stack should come in a bundle. If the cost was matchable with other products I think Splunk would pick up in the market."
"Splunk Cloud Platform could improve in how quickly it reacts to users reporting issues."
"I would love to be able to manage my own apps."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Apache Superset has a three-year licensing model."
"The price of Apache Superset is less than some of its competitors."
"Apache Superset is open-source and free."
"Apache Superset is an open-source solution."
"Currently, we have the ingest-based license. They are offering SVC-based licenses as well, but I am not a fan of SVC-based licensing. At the end of the day, I want to predict my budget and how much I am going to pay to the vendor so that I can plan my yearly budget."
"I do not have much idea. We previously used 1 GB at the cost of $600. Both on-prem and cloud licenses have the same price. There is no difference. It did not impact the cost because the costs of the on-prem license and the cloud license are the same. We did not have any issues with that. Overall, its price is reasonable."
"It is not that expensive."
"The licensing is based on the amount of data that we send to the cloud on a daily basis."
"My company has a license for Splunk Cloud Platform. My company also has a license for Splunk Enterprise."
"The licensing costs depend on the state of your environment and the fees are paid on a monthly basis."
"It was a good model."
"I do not personally deal with that side, but from discussions, I know that it is one of the more expensive tools. I do not have anything to compare it with."
