Have saved significant operational costs and streamlined alert-driven analytics with customizable dashboards
I definitely see some disadvantages in Apache Superset, particularly in the tagging feature which is not up to the mark, creating a little bit of mess for the administrators. We work with a Role-Based Access Control feature in the product. I assess this feature as good; they have permissions which are in more plain English, but there is a little bit of convenience missed out because if I have to create a super user apart from admin, I need to add all the permissions manually.

Needs better cybersecurity features but offers robust log ingestion
Splunk Cloud Platform needs improvement in its security offerings, specifically in cybersecurity. It has not kept pace with competitors over recent years, and integration with the Cisco ecosystem after Cisco's acquisition of Splunk has also been slow. The product should incorporate more readily available features, especially in security monitoring. The federated search feature is costly. Extracting meaningful insights beyond essential log data proves challenging due to the product's reliance on manual processes. Users must manually configure detections, develop logic for insights, and manage dashboards. While the product boasts numerous out-of-the-box capabilities, these often require extensive modification to align with specific user needs, limiting their practical applicability. Splunk Cloud Platform doesn't inherently provide visibility as a standalone product. It's a platform for building custom visibility solutions. We need to feed it data and then write logic to define what insights we want to extract. While pre-built solutions might be available in the marketplace, Splunk doesn't offer out-of-the-box visibility. If we know our requirements, we can utilize code and research to create custom dashboards, but it requires effort and expertise. The pre-built reports in Splunk Cloud Platform are generic and require manual adjustments to extract specific, granular information, which requires the user to be knowledgeable.

"It's very easy, reliable, and trustable because it's an Apache open-source product."
"The no-code interface is the most valuable as it allows us to operate without constant support from the data engineering team, fostering a self-service environment."
"I see savings from using Apache Superset in both time and money, particularly with the cost reduced by roughly 99% compared to Tableau where we previously paid almost 50k annually."
"There is definitely the ease of the infrastructure administration. It frees up a lot of time."
"The ability to correlate data and then present it in a meaningful and valuable way is crucial."
"Alerts are a huge benefit because we can customize them to each business unit's needs."
"The most valuable feature for me is the flexibility of being able to send the log to the https endpoint."
"he cloud performance is good."
"In terms of the benefits of the product, I would say it is my go-to tool."
"The log search capabilities are very good."
"Previously when in our company, we had logs everywhere on multiple systems, it was a really big pain for me trying to find what I wanted. Now that it is all aggregated and centralized in one place with one interface, it is just a lot easier to get the information that I need."

Cons

"I definitely see some disadvantages in Apache Superset, particularly in the tagging feature which is not up to the mark, creating a little bit of mess for the administrators."
"Apache Superset could be improved by enhancing its interactivity and engagement capabilities."
"One potential area for improvement in Apache Superset is that it must be installed in a dedicated Docker image, which could be a limitation since the goal is to embed Apache Superset in a product offering."
"I definitely see some disadvantages in Apache Superset, particularly in the tagging feature which is not up to the mark, creating a little bit of mess for the administrators."
"The platform's reporting feature needs enhancement."
"When comparing Apache Superset with Elasticsearch and Solar Search, it lacks some features that come with Elasticsearch, such as Kibana."
"Dynamic dashboarding could improve to enable smooth navigation when transitioning from a higher to a lower view, allowing for easy accessibility."
"Building a full-fledged product or software as a service might be cumbersome due to performance limitations."
"There can be more modules and more integration with other areas in the cloud and on-prem. I am not sure whether it includes network devices and things like that."
"Splunk Cloud's SVC licensing model lacks transparency."
"From an enterprise standpoint, we are more limited in terms of what data we can export and how we can present it."
"The Splunk interface is on-premises, so we have limited access to Splunk Cloud. Splunk support is not so good on Splunk Cloud. The Splunk side of the Splunk Cloud should also be more customizable. Integrating Splunk UBA, Splunk Phantom, and Splunk Cloud is also a bit difficult."
"When it comes to the integrations with the other platforms, there is a little bit of a lag in the observability part, making it an area where improvements are required."
"It is sometimes slow. Some of that has to do with the queries themselves not being efficient, but sometimes it is slow."
"Since I work on data collection from external sources and send them into Splunk, I miss its ability to collect that data through REST API applications."
"The dashboards should be easier to customize."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Apache Superset has a three-year licensing model."
"Apache Superset is open-source and free."
"The price of Apache Superset is less than some of its competitors."
"Apache Superset is an open-source solution."
"I do not have much idea. We previously used 1 GB at the cost of $600. Both on-prem and cloud licenses have the same price. There is no difference. It did not impact the cost because the costs of the on-prem license and the cloud license are the same. We did not have any issues with that. Overall, its price is reasonable."
"Splunk Cloud Platform fell within our budget so we pulled the trigger and implemented it."
"Splunk Cloud Platform's pricing is a little on the higher end."
"As far as the pricing goes, it was what was expected. It is a premium product. There were no surprises there."
"I am familiar with the pricing and licensing model a little bit. I am not sure about the particulars of the actual price that we have, but I do like the idea of going towards a more CPU-based approach rather than the ingest approach because it allows us the ability to ingest more data if we need it."
"It was a good model."
"The pricing model makes this an expensive solution."
"It is not that expensive."
