Has improved network visibility and allowed enforcement of precise app-level policies for better productivity
Check Point Application Control could be improved by integrating well with other Check Point solutions, allowing us to monitor bandwidth and leverage threat emulation and sandboxing. Initially, the complexity was very difficult, and there is a learning curve, so the ease of use and user interface for Check Point Application Control could be improved. Simplifying the setup process or providing guided, step-by-step policy creation would be beneficial. Overall, performance is also good. I chose nine out of ten because it gives a few false positives, which could be improved. There is also some pain in the setup that could be addressed. Other than that, it is a good application. Apart from the good aspects of Check Point Application Control, there are a few things that could be adjusted and improved, such as reducing false positives, simplifying policy management, and enhancing the user interface. The performance could also be improved, especially in high-traffic environments.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best value we have is their actionable reports on user analytics, events, and activity that are extracted from their database."
"Check Point Application Control has positively impacted my organization by improving our productivity, since we have applied a security policy so that only particular applications can be accessed within our network, users are not wasting their time using non-compliant applications in our premises."
"Time has been saved because previously some employees were wasting time accessing useless or entertainment applications, now we effectively block them, and they are not wasting time on unproductive work that our organization does not use."
"It ensures that the health of each application can handle the set tasks and projects without any challenges."
"The central management system provides a reliable platform for application control and URL filtering."
"Check Point Application Control has positively impacted my organization by controlling application access; previously, all the users had full internet access, and now we have controlled their application access based on this solution."
"Both granular application control and real-time threat prevention are very useful; in my organization, I initially block everything and then allow only what is required, which ensures that only necessary applications like Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Teams, and Microsoft Office 365 are allowed."
"Check Point enables us to save internet bandwidth. The administration offers good guidance. We don't want the employees to access social networking on work computers because it will distract them from their jobs, so we can block that. It also helps us to implement changes very quickly and to get people to be more focused on the job."
"The visibility, reporting, and the ability to stop or prevent malicious or undesired applications from being installed are the most valuable features."
"The visibility is valuable."
"If any malicious activity, like VAT viruses, anything RNE, ZOD malware, or something similar, comes in we know that unless we approve it, it's going to be blocked."
"The API integration is good."
"We use App Control to scan the network for virtual machines that have unauthorized applications. We can isolate the problem VMs and control application access."
"I use the console to check for threats and I find it to be very user-friendly."
"The effectiveness of application whitelisting is very good."
"All the functions within VMware Carbon Black App Control are valuable."

Cons

"It is expensive."
"My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing was that the cost was high, and I think the cost should be improved for competitor pricing."
"Something important to mention is the improvement at the support level. It could be more advanced."
"There is some performance lag on the device itself when we turn on Check Point Application Control features."
"Seeing the capabilities and features that we are using today, we can say that we could expect an additional feature that could allow us to integrate this management and even security with APIs."
"Initially, the complexity was very difficult, and there is a learning curve, so the ease of use and user interface for Check Point Application Control could be improved."
"The learning curve for new users is challenging since the integrated data models are complicated."
"We expect applications to be updated regularly."
"Its setup is very complex, and it requires guidance from the support team, but it is well worth the effort."
"I rate App Control six out of 10 for scalability."
"Another issue is that even sometimes if you approve, for example, Adobe as a publisher, you say any product or anything that's from Adobe has to run. It generally runs, but especially in a large environment and with a lot of users, sometimes, due to some certification validation issues or some other issue, it might stop the process from running. Genuine processes like Adobe and Chrome can get blocked. so that needs to be improved."
"I would like to see the addition of some more features that are in other, similar solutions."
"The initial setup is somewhat complex."
"Carbon Black does not use the database for identifying the file, the fields, or malware."
"The solution should have overhead in keeping lists of applications that you want don't want to run."
"The reporting is not good and needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a bit expensive and it could be cheaper, but it's part of business politics."
"I think application control has become a basic feature and it should be enabled automatically, without having to purchase a separate license for it."
"The price of Check Point Application Control is high. The support and ecosystem around the solution are expensive."
"Check Point Application Control is expensive. The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"The blade has its cost but you can take advantage of the license package to pay less for it."
"Its price is reasonable and what is expected for these types of products."
"The pricing for this product is competitive and our customers who told us that often, Carbon Back is the cheaper solution."
"We pay a fee for support, which is renewed annually."
