Robust management tool with an easy setup and room for more features
DCNM is used by one of the airline customers in Qatar to manage many data centers and rack switches running on normal Nexus or NX-OS mode. They required a controller platform to manage these Nexus switches, and thus, they utilized DCNM as a Fabric controller. Given that ACI deployment is very low…

Improved bandwidth management and network visibility have resulted in financial benefits and streamlined operations
There is always room for improvement in SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, such as implementing instant reporting based on business intelligence reports and more granular filters in their dashboard to improve the GUI view and reporting. The licensing model of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is always an issue for users because competitors offer unlimited and perpetual licenses, and SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer's model is quite costly compared to other brands. If users are comfortable with SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer, they have to make the hard decision to invest, and it's suggested from a user's perspective that SolarWinds should improve their financial model and licensing to become competitive, especially for small to medium businesses.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product has excellent stability."
"Automation of the ILS."
"I don't have to rely on the on-site engineer who can do the configuration. I can have our team just plug the devices and perform remotely. I can also do the templates."
"The automation capability is more than enough. It depends on how we consider and integrate the automation engine. We need to ensure the automation engine and then how to perform it. It depends on the policy making, API integration, and other integrations."
"The monitoring capability is the best in Cisco Data Center Network Manager. It helps me improve network management tasks and optimize processes."
"Monitoring system provides a clear indication of what's going on in the network."
"I like that is easy to work on and straightforward."
"It uses push technology, which pushes the changes to all relevant devices to ensure they are updated accordingly."
"The bandwidth indicates the utilization of the devices; if any issue occurs, it triggers an alert for me."
"With SolarWinds, we are now able to accurately gauge bandwidth consumption."
"I like that it is able to monitor multiple devices and it's vendor-agnostic."
"The most helpful feature of SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is bandwidth analysis, which lets you see who's hogging your network."
"We conduct network traffic analysis for a couple of key reasons. First, we look for traffic anomalies, such as unexpected increases or decreases in network traffic within specific segments. This helps us determine if the network needs to be re-architected."
"SolarWinds has improved our organization because whenever a device is down, we get an alert."
"So far, it is a very stable product."
"The most valuable features are the bandwidth analyzer, the monitoring, the network analyzer, it has overall good performance, and an easy deployment."

Cons

"Automation for the RMA process can be added."
"It would be nice to have the ability to more easily collect information from other software when doing some types of analysis."
"The delivery Cisco Data Center Network Manager could improve if it was easier. Additionally, some feature improvement is needed."
"If the customer thinks about using additional solutions, Cisco should make sure they are not left out."
"The visibility of applications is not great."
"The reporting is not very intuitive and has room for improvement."
"API lacks robustness."
"We need better performance and reliability."
"They should work on the configuration of the Log Analyzer feature."
"Currently, it shows only the top ten applications or ports in use, while the remaining data appears as 'remaining traffic,' causing confusion."
"There is a lack of documentation ......as well as a lack of dashboards."
"The analysis can utilize algorithms like K-means clustering or associative neural networks for predictions rather than relying on generative AI, which is more suited for text."
"The solution should improve its automation feature. It's quite limited compared to other products."
"The pricing is expensive."
"It's scalable, but it could be simplified because it's not completely easy."
"It is a scalable solution, but it is costly to scale. Therefore, I would rate scalability at eight out of ten."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When we purchase a Nexus box, the MDS CM license comes with it."
"The price of Cisco Data Center Network Manager is expensive compared to other vendors on the market."
"We usually opt for a yearly plan, commonly for three or five years upfront. Some customers may not utilize all the features included in the product, and this can lead to them paying for functionalities they don't need."
"The solution is very expensive."
"On average, Data Center Network Manager's pricing isn't too costly unless you choose a premier license."
"The tool is always expensive, but their service, product quality, and support are good. We're happy with it, but it's still an expensive solution. There are cheaper alternatives but no similar platform across all domains."
"The product is licensed with contracts that work on a yearly basis rather than a monthly model."
"I would say that the pricing offers great value for the money."
"The price of this solution is exceptional."
"For our environment, we pay approximately $25,000 USD yearly."
"SolarWinds' pricing structure is the primary reason why some customers opt for another solution such as ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer. In NTA, you are charged per port, meaning that if you have a 24-port switch you will be charged for 24 individual nodes. ManageEngine NetFlow Analyzer, on the other hand, charges per switch, such that if you add a switch, the entire switch will count as one single node."
"While the pricing is fair, it could be better."
"The pricing is really good."
"We pay yearly, and we are happy with its price."
"NetFlow Traffic Analyzer is reasonably priced."
"The pricing is reasonable."
