User-friendly interface facilitates efficient data migration and reduces operational overhead
Its usability and ease of use are standout features. It is really easy to use - almost too easy at times. Users don't have to be experts to use their tool set and utilize the clicking mechanisms, drop down boxes, and other features to build a package and run it. The configuration is very easy and the system is very stable. I would rate it at a 10 as it is highly reliable; we have never had any problems with it. Very little maintenance is required on my side. While you need to keep the product up to date, the maintenance requirements are minimal. SSIS integrates with all Microsoft tools seamlessly. We have used it against Oracle, DB2 and SQL. It integrates and can move data around from any data platforms, making it very diverse in that standpoint. It is a very robust tool that can work with many data sources, and its main strength is that it is extremely easy to use.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Familiar, intuitive GUI coming from a Java development background, in-depth, descriptive, and well-laid-out documentation, responsive support through forums directly from Clover staff, a wealth of customizable pre-defined components, descriptive logging for error messages, and ease of install with a light footprint make it very effective to use."
"No dependence on native language and ease of use."
"Server features for scheduler: It is very easy to schedule jobs and monitor them. The interface is easy to use."
"We switched to CloverETL because of its flexibility to connect to various data sources and no dependence on native language and ease of use."
"Key features include wealth of pre-defined components; all components are customizable; descriptive logging, especially for error messages."
"Connectivity to various data sources: The ability to extract data from different data sources gives greater flexibility."
"Overall, it's a good product."
"There is a huge community to find the tutorials you need."
"SSIS integrates well with SQL servers and Microsoft products."
"For people that are working in a Microsoft environment with the SQL Server database, it's the most recommended tool."
"It's something I needed for bulk imports. I'm not a big fan of it, but I haven't seen anything better."
"Because of the code generation, code quality improved and the time to develop decreased."
"SSIS is easy to use."
"It is easy to set up the solution."

Cons

"Its documentation could be improved."
"Needs easier automated failure recovery, more and more intuitive auto-generated or filled-in code for components, and easier or more automated sync between CloverETL Designer and CloverETL Server."
"Resource management: We typically run out of heap space, and even the allocation of high heap space does not seem to be enough."
"Another consideration is real-time processing needs. If this is a requirement then I would recommend against using this solution, unless the next version has a new set of features specifically for real-time processing."
"Performance could be better."
"Microsoft should offer an on-premises support warranty for those using that deployment. They seem to be withdrawing from on-premises options."
"We have faced some problems, mostly from a different provider with different language handling."
"Again it failed a lot and by a lot I mean every day. The failures were false alarms and caused many sleepless night for our company that I used to work for."
"It's difficult to refactor SSIS. It gets cumbersome to reuse the solution."
"We have a stability problem because when something works, it works one time. The next time, it doesn't work."
"Options for scaling could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
"If you don't want to pay a lot of money, you can go for SSIS, as its open-source version is available. When it comes to licensing, SSIS can be expensive."
"It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
"SSIS' licensing is a little high, but it gives good value for money."
"I'm not involved in licensing details, but SSIS provides value to our organization by simplifying data management tasks."
"People have to opt for a perpetual-based licensing model."
"The solution is economical. You don't have to worry about the pricing as long as you're installing both services on the same server."
"It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
