Automating dashboards has saved time and now supports prompt-driven task workflows

Role-based workflows have transformed daily deployments and improve team collaboration
GitLab has role-based access control, so when a team member needs to make a code change, they cannot directly apply it to the environment but must put in a merge request. Once a senior reviews the code and approves it, then it is implemented across the environment, making it safer and allowing everyone to experience the process. The best features GitLab offers are version control and automation, which are the major things that stand out to me. When it comes to access, the login is very smooth, with just one login integrated with our Okta, allowing everyone to log in easily. Deployments become much easier, and that is how GitLab helps. The automation features make my work easier because we use a tool called AWX, which is connected to GitLab. Whenever we run a job on AWX, it directly checks the code and uses it. Since the code is not preserved locally but kept in the cloud, it is safe and nobody can tamper with it. When it comes to safety, that is a major thing. Automation features allow the code to be accessed from any tools we use, so the jobs we run are helping tremendously and doing their work perfectly. For pipeline tasks, we have created a significant amount of pipelines, which are all hosted in GitLab. Running the pipelines has become much easier, and they are doing a perfect job, helping tremendously in our day-to-day activities. GitLab has positively impacted my organization because previously we stored code locally on servers, leading to many risks. Since GitLab came into our environment, our integration and deployments became much easier, helping our work become much smoother. Improvements from GitLab have led to better team collaboration because when several people are working, they can all edit the code and submit it as a merge request, and once approved, it reflects directly to the main branch. Many can work at the same time. When it comes to deployments, deploying has become much faster since we started using GitLab, and even if errors occur, we can spot them easily and troubleshoot, which has helped tremendously.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable thing is kind of the whole package together."
"The solution is excellent for collaboration; from the agility point of view, they have very good sprint functionality, allowing you to set up sprints effectively."
"It can generate reports showing a burndown chart, burnup chart, and the planned vs actual velocity."
"VersionOne delivers a total ALM solution for whether you are operating a single team, like Scrum and Kanban for IT operations, or implementing an agile enterprise approach, like SAFe."
"I prefer Agility out of the three applications we work with because it has the most flexibility and can work at a higher level."
"Agility is highly flexible. It can do much more than what our client is doing with it. They use it in a defined way. Some at that company have a much broader knowledge of agile and SAFe, but they're given applications and a mandated way to work. We had to work within their parameters and provide an accurate transition so the data would be mapped and pushed through."
"You can use Digital.ai Agility for automating your tasks and creating your dashboard."
"Digital.ai Agility helped our organization define the Enterprise Value Streams, and in the tool you can derive all user stories, features, and epics from the top-level portfolio items and value streams so any work that is done must contribute to the value streams, otherwise it should be questioned why that effort is being executed."
"I would definitely recommend the solution to other organizations."
"GitLab is a wholly complete solution and it is for this reason that I can recommend it to other users."
"Previously we used Team Foundation Server, but GitLab is better for local cloud deployment."
"Of all available products, it was the easiest to use and easy to install."
"The user interface is really good so that helps with huge teams who need to collaborate."
"The scalability is good."
"The solution is stable."
"GitLab is a very good solution because you can completely maintain your code and have a number of developers working on the same project."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in getting the analytics portion of the solution more integrated with the rest of it."
"The machine learning features are a new capability but could be improved. This is being worked by Digital.ai currently. Multicolor simulation, specifically, could be improved."
"Improve how to create and track releases. Currently, I have to create child projects."
"In my work as a contractor, it's always frustrating when a client has multiple software applications that don't talk to each other and they all perform the same function. That presents a huge challenge between their IT groups."
"The user interface can be improved by adding Save, Edit, Add, Cancel, and Return buttons to the popup windows that are displayed when you click on a child item."
"It was not supporting some plugins. We wanted to migrate data that we were already using."
"The response from Digital.ai Agility is a little bit slow and could be faster."
"Reporting could be improved."
"The only feature I have used in GitLab that I thought could be improved is their code generation feature."
"I believe there's room for improvement in the advanced features, particularly in enhancing the pipeline functionalities."
"One of my colleagues got in touch with them, and his response was that their technical support was not that great. The details that they provided for the question were not that great."
"The pricing model of GitLab is an issue for me."
"While GitLab is a great tool for developers, it lacks project planner features. Roadmaps and Gantt charts in GitLab are not as advanced as in Jira, and changing start and end dates is more laborious in GitLab."
"GitLab doesn't have AWS integration."
"The solution should expand features to match other tools such as Coverity, Veracode, or SonarQube with its static code analysis tool so third-party integrations are not required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Comparing the pricing to other products, I think this solution is in the middle."
"You get what you pay for. Don't let your development teams dictate what the portfolio management team should use as the main tool."
"We are currently using the open-source version."
"We are using the free version of GitLab."
"The price is okay."
"I'm not sure if they have some kind of discount. I've been negotiating with them on prices before, and I believe they weren't too happy to give discounts, but list prices are $19 per user, per month for Premium and $99 per user, per month for Ultimate. So, the difference between Premium and Ultimate is a bit bigger, and in most companies, you need to build some type of business case."
"The solution is free."
"GitLab is a free solution to use."
"The price of GitLab could be better, it is expensive."
"The solution's standard license is paid annually. They have changed the pricing model and it used to be better. There is a free version available."
