Supports secure development pipelines and improves issue detection but limits internal visibility and needs broader dashboard integration
If you have an internal team and you want your internal team to validate false positives, basically to determine whether it's a valid issue or an invalid issue, then I wouldn't recommend it much. That was the only reason we migrated from Fortify on Demand to another solution. Fortify has another tool which is Fortify WebInspect. On Demand is the outsourcing solution, and WebInspect you can use with your in-house team, which is basically the product developed by the Fortify team. For automated scanning, Fortify helps a lot. Regarding the visibility for the internal team, everyone is moving toward the DevSecOps side, and Fortify team has made good progress that you can integrate into your CICD pipeline. One thing I would highlight is if Fortify can focus more on the centralized dashboard of the tools because nowadays, tools such as SentinelOne also exist for identifying security issues, but they have a centralized dashboard that merges their cloud solution and application security side solution together. If you have one tool that works for different solutions, it helps a lot. They are doing good, but they should invest more on the AI side as well because AI security is evolving these days. On the cloud side, they have already made good progress, but I believe they should explore the new area related to AI security as well.

Effective vulnerability identification enhances security scans but AI-driven enhancements are needed
OWASP is only meant for two or three different types of scans. It is a tool which will scan the code for security for vulnerabilities We were able to convince the customers to really remove those rules when GitLab was able to show the results. Customers should be aware that GitLab is not just a…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Once we have our project created with our application pipeline connected to the test scanning, it only takes two minutes. The report explaining what needs to be modified related to security and vulnerabilities in our code is very helpful. We are able to do static and dynamic code scanning."
"Fortify on Demand can be scaled very easily."
"It improves future security scans."
"The UL is easy to use compared to that of other tools, and it is highly reliable. The findings provide a lower number of false positives."
"I do not remember any issues with stability."
"The installation was easy."
"Audit workbench: for on-the-fly defect auditing."
"It is an extremely robust, scalable, and stable solution."
"Two features are valuable. The first one is that the scan gets completed really quickly, and the second one is that even though it searches in a limited scope, what it does in that limited scope is very good. When you use Zap for testing, you're only using it for specific aspects or you're only looking for certain things. It works very well in that limited scope."
"Simple and easy to learn and master."
"The most valuable feature is scanning the URL to drill down all the different sites."
"It's great that we can use it with Portswigger Burp."
"The API is exceptional."
"The HUD is a good feature that provides on-site testing and saves a lot of time."
"The solution is scalable."
"You can run it against multiple targets."

Cons

"The product has a lot of false positives."
"The technical support is actually a problem that needs to be addressed. Since the acquisition and merger with Hewlett Packard, it has been really hard to know who the technical or salesperson to talk to."
"They have very good support, but there is always room for improvement."
"We would like a reduction in the time frame of scans. It takes us three to five days to run a scan now. We would like that reduced to under three days."
"We have some stability issues, but they are minimal."
"In terms of what could be improved, we need more strategic analysis reports, not just for one specific application, but for the whole enterprise. In the next release, we need more reports and more analytic views for all the applications. There is no enterprise view in Fortify. I would like enterprise views and reports."
"I would like the solution to add AI support."
"Takes up a lot of resources which can slow things down."
"ZAP's integration with cloud-based CICD pipelines could be better. The scan should run through the entire pipeline."
"They stopped their support for a short period. They've recently started to come back again. In the early days, support was much better."
"It would be a great improvement if they could include a marketplace to add extra features to the tool."
"Online documentation can be improved to utilize all features of ZAP and API methods to make use in automation."
"The documentation is lacking and out-of-date, it really needs more love."
"The solution is somewhat unreliable because after we get the finding, we have to manually verify each of its findings to see whether it's a false positive or a true finding, and it takes time."
"The product reporting could be improved."
"The automated vulnerability assessments that the application performs needs to be simplified as well as diversified."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product's cost depends on the type of license."
"Fortify on Demand is more expensive than Burpsuite. I rate its pricing a nine out of ten."
"The price is fair compared to that of other solutions."
"The pricing model it's based on how many applications you wish to scan."
"The pricing can be improved because it is complex when compared to the competition."
"The solution is a little expensive."
"Fortify on Demand is affordable, and its licensing comes with a year of support."
"There are different costs for Micro Focus Fortify on Demand depending on the assessments you want to use. There is only a standard license needed to use the solution."
"It's free and open, currently under the Apache 2 license. If ZAP does what you need it to do, selling a free solution is a very easy."
"The tool is open-source."
"This is an open-source solution and can be used free of charge."
"It's free. It's good for us because we don't know what the extent of our use will be yet. It's good to start with something free and easy to use."
"OWASP ZAP is a free tool provided by OWASP’s engineers and experts. There is an option to donate."
"We have used the freeware version. I believe Zap only has freeware."
"OWASP Zap is free to use."
"This app is completely free and open source. So there is no question about any pricing."
