Modular structure and AI features stream new reporting processes
One of my clients has a requirement; they want to integrate metadata into the process, which means, for example, if I just want to implement a new field into my database, that field needs to be reflected throughout, let's say, 200 mappings. This highlights the need for a data-driven approach. My experience with technical support from Informatica is quite interesting; I would rate it as nine out of ten for Informatica PowerCenter kind of products or the Informatica integration products, because my team can do some hands-on using their free licenses or one-month kind of products. However, for products Master Data Management or related to MDM or Data Governance, there is no way by which we can directly practice, and my team struggles at that point.

Stands out for its user-friendly interface, robust community support, competitive pricing and strategic approach to improving data accuracy
Its greatest asset lies in its user-friendly interface, specifically within the Talend Open Studio, known for its ease of use and familiarity among users. The robust community support proves invaluable when encountering challenges, providing a reliable resource for issue resolution. Moreover, the pricing structure stands out as highly competitive compared to other offerings in the market, making it a cost-effective choice for users. The most valuable feature lies in the capability to assign data quality issues to different stakeholders, facilitating the tracking and resolution of defective work. This functionality enables a streamlined process for identifying, assigning, and subsequently addressing data quality issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Offers data lineage feature"
"The most valuable feature of Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is it provides clients with a full view of the enterprise data assets. For example, how many data assets they have and who owns them."
"It is easy to create REST-based interfaces of the master data objects."
"It's a stable product without any bugs or glitches."
"The metadata management of Informatica is great."
"In the latest version, I like the outlay of the business roles creation. I like seeing that visualization as you're building it, as opposed to going through metatables or XML mappings. We liked that piece, and it makes it more intuitive for the business."
"Informatica Cloud Data Integration is stable."
"The staging and hierarchical features are the most valuable."
"Provides a flexible development environment to the coder."
"It reduces the QA effort immensely by handling most of the test scenarios in a reusable way."
"With its frequency function, we were able to pick a line of business to be addressed first in one of our conversion projects."
"It lowers the amount of time in development from weeks to a day."
"The file fetch process is impeccable."
"The numerous components provided by Talend mean you’re able to create jobs quickly and efficiently."
"It has definitely streamlined certain processes."
"The solution is customizable."

Cons

"One area that needs to improve is the user experience because it is very complex. The trial version is very complex so it's not easy to start using the program immediately. You must study the rules first."
"Informatica's support understands the solution, but they lack the experience we need for our use case. That was one thing that we prioritized when we started searching for this kind of solution."
"The product could be improved in the area of architecture and technology. All the parts are old."
"IEDC can improve the comparison of lineages."
"Permissions, scalability, and connection with other informatic tools are the main areas that need development. Integration with other tools, such as IDQ, is challenging. The management of data discovery is highly challenging because many data points have identical definitions."
"User/group administration could use improvement."
"I need to have some insight into the tool's cloud capabilities."
"This solution is hard to set up and its interface is not user-friendly. It's also not as stable, and the technical support takes a lot of time to solve simple problems."
"NullPointerExceptions are going to be the death of me and are a big reason for our transition away from Talend. One day, it is fine with a 1000 blank rows, then the next day, it will find one blank cell and it breaks down."
"If the SQL input controls could dynamically determine the schema-based on the SQL alone, it would simplify the steps of having to use a manually created and saved schema for use in the TMap for the Postgres and Redshift components. This would make things even easier."
"SQL for displaying underlying data in non-match results does not work."
"I would say that some of the support elements need improvement."
"Finding assistance with issues can be spotty. With Python, there are literally millions of open source answers which are recent and apply to the version that we are using."
"The ability to change the code when debugging the JavaScript could be improved."
"If we encounter issues, it’s most likely when using the Talend Open Studio. The studio can be slow, get stuck, or crash. But again, it can be caused by the resources of your machine or your connection with the repository. If we encounter issues with the Studio we restart the Studio. In emergencies, we create and use a new workspace."
"There are too many functions which could be streamlined."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the licensing cost of Informatica MDM a five out of ten."
"We got a 50% discount."
"Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company."
"The price is comparable."
"I'm not sure about the most recent pricing trends, but I don't believe it's significantly different from PowerCenter. I believe it is nearly the same."
"It's pretty high for us. It's more on the higher side, like low to middle high."
"I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"The solution is very expensive."
"It is cheaper than Informatica. Talend Data Quality costs somewhere between $10,000 to $12,000 per year for a seat license. It would cost around $20,000 per year for a concurrent license. It is the same for the whole big data solution, which comes with Talend DI, Talend DQ, and TDM."
"Moreover, the pricing structure stands out as highly competitive compared to other offerings in the market, making it a cost-effective choice for users."
"I would advise to first take a look and at the Open Studio edition. Figure out what you need and purchase the appropriate license."
"We did not purchase a separate license for DQ. It is part of our data platform suite, and I believe it is well-priced."
"It's a subscription-based platform, we renew it every year."
