Provides detailed visibility into threats but the ability to add exceptions needs improvement
One major item for improvement is the ability to add exceptions. We can add some exceptions, but not at the level we need to. The second major area for improvement involves enhanced capabilities for different operating systems or platforms. That is, even though we have coverage for different operating systems or platforms such as Linux, we don't get all of the controls and enhanced capabilities that are available with Windows devices. Reporting could also be improved because, at present, we get limited results at times. For example, in an environment with more than 100,000 devices, you may just get 10,000 results when you run a report.

Useful quarantining features but can be tedious to configure
I use SPAMfighter to monitor and quarantine any abnormal emails and to maintain a whitelist and blacklist SPAMfighter's best features are the specific quarantine and the website where you can release your spam whitelisting and blacklisting. SPAMfighter is a little tedious to configure and…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is easy to load and it runs quietly in the background, unlike other solutions."
"It's absolutely free to use."
"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is quite good. We haven't really experienced any issues with it."
"The ransomware and malware protection is the most valuable feature."
"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint has helped reduce our mean time to remediation significantly."
"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint comes pre-installed in Microsoft Windows."
"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is a robust platform."
"It's effective against most types of infection, and the firewall is perfect for protection."
"SPAMfighter's best features are the specific quarantine and the website where you can release your spam whitelisting and blacklisting."

Cons

"I would like to have additional features such as DNS lookup, which would help for detecting malicious sites."
"It can get a bit laggy sometimes. Other than that, we don't have any issues. They constantly tweak it and fix it up based on users' feedback. It has improved a lot over the past four years. Defender for Endpoint never really used to be a good endpoint security solution, but over the past couple of years, Microsoft has invested heavily in it. So, it has come a long way in all aspects of endpoint security. If they want to make it better, they should just continue investing in the current path of what they've been doing over the past couple of years."
"In terms of improvements for their technical support, a focus on enhancing response times could be beneficial."
"The scalability could be improved - I would rate it between a seven and an eight."
"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint should have more transparency. In the latest edition of Windows, Windows 11, it is a compulsory requirement to connect to a Microsoft account, which in turn has implications for Defender. This should be removed."
"They should bring back the feature of a dedicated proxy device for communication to the cloud. As of now, all the agents are required to send the logs directly to the cloud. There should be a solution where you can put a proxy and all the logs are consolidated, like a forwarder."
"I have accounts for administrators and corporate employees, but I also have accounts for students. I can't split these types of accounts. I need a separate configuration for both... I need to research how I can get alerts for only the administrative machines."
"Defender for Endpoint is complex, and the documentation is detailed. At the same time, it's hard to navigate sometimes. You have to go through tons of documentation to find what you want."
"SPAMfighter is a little tedious to configure and requires some technical knowledge to understand it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is included with a Microsoft E5 license."
"Its price is fair. It has approximately the same price as the other products such as Kaspersky. It is much cheaper than Malwarebytes."
"It is affordable and comes in the Office 365 bundle."
"We pay a yearly license for Microsoft Defender. We also have a support contract with them."
"It's all pretty easy. For some clients, it's an easier sell because it's just an add-on to their existing Microsoft licensing and Office 365 licensing."
"AV solutions are pretty expensive because they are necessary, not just for protection, but many businesses need them to comply with regulatory bodies and receive accreditation. We recently purchased an E5 license, which gives us access to the entire Microsoft suite. I would say the pricing is competitive; most tools of this kind are similarly priced. There are minor differences between the competitors, but they aren't spectacularly different. Defender for Endpoint makes sense because all our solutions are in the same place, paid for with a single license. The subscription price is around £50 per user per month, though it may have increased slightly."
"The solution comes as part of Microsoft Windows."
"For me, the pricing is very good, but for management it's very expensive. Other solutions are less expensive. But when I present all the information and all the reports they say, "Well, it's expensive, but the cost-benefit is very good.""
"SPAMfighter has yearly maintenance prices."
