Old version maintains functionality but lacks current cloud support
Since the version I'm using is many years old, they have been continuously improving. They are always adding features to the language and framework, but I cannot comment from a very old version on what needs to be improved as I'm not completely up to date. There is a challenge and complexity in supporting a very old version of a product that is no longer supported. It's still possible with Microsoft .NET Framework, which isn't the case with many other products. That's a positive aspect. It has limitations when trying to develop new things with Microsoft .NET Framework. But whatever works, continues to work. It always needs improvement, but again, it does not improve when discussing an old version of Microsoft .NET Framework. I think they're always improving, but it's a never-ending process.

The UI makes the setup easy to do from anywhere
Our customers expect that a page will open within one second, and I doubt this will happen. Also, opening documentation takes time. Fixing this will help the customer and help to meet their expectations. SAP needs to come up with a standardized version of NetWeaver. The solution is good on the internal side, but not so much from the client perspective when they view it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Microsoft Platform is the only viable solution when I wish to do something that is not supposed to be cross-platform."
"The new .NET Core has those middlewares, which are awesome from a security standpoint. With the old Framework or the newer Framework, middleware is basically an event pipeline. You configure and register it, and it handles things centrally. A simple example is logging. With the old Framework, you needed to try/catch blocks everywhere. Here, you configure the logging handler once, and it captures exceptions across the application. I really like the middleware pattern."
"The technology is very scalable and accessible to use."
"In-built refactoring and .Net profilers are the most valuable features of the solution."
"It is a stable solution."
"For us, it is better to remain under the umbrella of Microsoft."
"Given that it's cross-platform right now, where you can use it on Windows and Mac, that is the single most significant feature that has resulted in wider adoption of .NET."
"Basically, .NET is simply is the easiest programming language to use, based on my experience."
"Workflow functionality and internal portal capabilities are the most important features."
"Internal workflow approval around ESS and MSS leave days, capex approval as well as internal communication to the business have improved the way my organization functions."
"They integrated it with the SAP router."
"From the use of this solution, we have been able to establish better processes and have greater management of our company."

Cons

"In my opinion, this solution can be improved by providing out-of-the-box support for different types of libraries."
"There is room for Microsoft .NET Framework to improve cloud platform capabilities."
"They should have more training materials available that are specific to .NET. We spend a lot of money training our engineers."
"Improvements are needed in .NET development, particularly in a backend scenario."
"They do provide the .NET library, however, for me, the most important capability we want to investigate in the future is the integration with Copilot. This would help speed up the development of the code and also the testing and documentation of the requirement."
"Like in C#, Microsoft .NET Framework should provide code reusability options for all kinds of development processes."
"The integration capability of the product with AI is an area with certain shortcomings, where improvements are required."
"Difficult to scale this product for large organizations."
"External portal functionality with suppliers and customers needs improvement."
"Due to our business, some setups were very complex."
"We encountered stability issues, especially on external functionality around its RFP capabilities."
"Our customers expect that a page will open within one second, and I doubt this will happen. Also, opening documentation takes time. Fixing this will help the customer and help to meet their expectations."
"The user interface could be improved by making it more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Microsoft .NET Framework is very cost-effective for corporate users."
"Microsoft .NET Framework is licensed under the Windows License."
"In the interim, there's no need to purchase videos for viewing. Microsoft has made significant moves in the .NET space, starting with their response in Visual Studio Code and now providing Visual Studio entirely for free. This is a notable shift from the past when we used to pay substantial amounts for technical subscriptions. Previously, a group of ten developers could cost several thousand dollars annually for licensing. However, the current trend is to offer these tools for free to maintain their dominance in the developer market. The market dynamics have changed, and now developers can freely download Visual Studio, making it a preferred choice over other paid options."
"Microsoft .NET Framework is a free, open-source solution."
"The solution is free but you need to pay for a license for the hosting service."
"The solution is a bit costly when compared to open source products or open gear licenses."
"If you want to develop an enterprise-level application, you have to purchase the enterprise-level development license."
"The support is an extra cost when purchasing the license. The price of the solution is overall reasonable and paid annually or every three years. Additionally, they have a monthly license. The cost is approximately $1,000 per user."
"SAP is not for every business. It depends on what is required. SAP is always going to be expensive."
"Because India is so competitive in the IT world, people will start to move away from SAP's pricing because they have a market monopoly. Soon, they will start losing the monopoly part to open source and other things. I don't think their monopoly will run for more than three to four years because people are getting away from these monopolies."
"The cost of this solution is high."
