Technical support is knowledgeable and quick to respond
It is used for compliance Gathering information Scheduling It needs to have better reporting.  More than five years. We have not encountered any issues with stability. We have not encountered any issues with scalability. I would rate the technical support very well as they are…

Has many predefined correlation rules and is brilliant for investigation and log analysis
It is very complicated to write your own correlation rules without the help of Splunk support. What Splunk could do better is to create an API to the standard SIEM tools, such as Microsoft Sentinel. The idea would be to make it less painful. In ELK Stack, Kibana is the query language with which you can search log files. I believe Splunk has also a query language in which they search their log files, but once you have identified the log file that you want to use for further security correlation, you want to very quickly transport that into your SIEM tool, such as Microsoft Sentinel. That is something that Splunk could make a little bit less painful because it is a lot of effort to find that log file and forward it. An API with Microsoft Sentinel or a similar SIEM tool would be a good idea.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would rate the technical support very well as they are knowledgeable and quick to respond."
"It is a very stable solution. I never really had a hiccup with the tool."
"Splunk has improved our operations by giving us access to more information and allowing us to deploy more use cases."
"I have noticed a return on investment with Splunk Enterprise Security, as it delivers substantial value for money."
"The most valuable feature of Splunk Enterprise Security is the threat intelligence integration because essentially having to go out and correlate all the data on our own becomes convoluted."
"It has the ability to correlate data, analyze and review it."
"Splunk can deliver more information by going deeper. By creating a dashboard, we can identify the root cause of the threat. Let's say I have a firewall from Check Point. Splunk will find the dashboard for Check Point, implement it in our environment, and connect it to the Check Point firewall logs, which are shown on the dashboard. If we request a custom dashboard, the engineer will take longer to complete the task."
"The incident review pane is the best part of it because that is where the SOC lives. It is the heartbeat of what the SOC needs to do. You are able to start the investigative process. As you are sitting in the incident review pane, you see the alert, and from that one alert, which is called a notable alert, you can drill in and see all the different specific details that are tied to that."
"Deployment server for deploying changes in one go."

Cons

"It was very complex. There was poor native correlation. "
"It needs to have better reporting. "
"AngularJS/ReactJS inclusion could be made easier in GUI."
"Splunk Enterprise Security incurs a significant cost because of the amount of data we send, but we are fine with the value we're getting for that price."
"The setup time is quite long."
"Given the ever-increasing number of threats, I would like Splunk to update its threat signatures more frequently."
"I'd like to see more integration with more antivirus systems."
"Sometimes the communication with support happens with multiple staff. They should reduce the time to resolution."
"Splunk needs local technical support."
"They should make data onboarding easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Do a PoC. Make it detailed so it can help later."
"In addition to the licensing fee, there is also a support and maintenance charge."
"In terms of pricing, I believe Splunk is unreasonably costly for the majority of mid and small-sized companies."
"Splunk is not free."
"Be upfront about your needs and expectations. Splunk is great to work with."
"Some of the insights that we have obtained as a part of using Splunk have greatly helped us in increasing our revenue in terms of selling our products."
"Splunk's cost is very high. They need to review the pricing. They have to go back and totally readdress the market."
"As a team, we prefer the old pricing model with a perpetual license. We are still evaluating the whole subscription-based model."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is cheaper than competitors, but I do not know whether it is just our contract."
