Because it does a smart software trigger in the PAM-4 GUI, it's very easy to hook up
We are using the full bandwidth of the product. 70 gigahertz bandwidth for real-time scope is important. To get the step response, we need that excess bandwidth. If I wanted to get a 33 gigahertz bandwidth with a good step function, I would need that excess bandwidth so I can apply appropriate vessel filters. They do have optical front-ends which are optional. We are taking advantage of that. In certain, very specific ways, it's field upgradable. I would imagine when they have the next product that it goes to a higher sample rate, and that'll be a whole new product.

We are able to capture the transient domain accurately. I would like them to add more post processing capabilities.
It meet our basic needs. Since we do a lot of post processing when we download our waveforms to our computers, we need more post processing capabilities. If you have used oscilloscopes before, no matter the brand, it's probably easy to learn. The panel may be different, but it's easy to ramp up on the new model. This user interface is good. Most of the oscilloscopes that I have used have good user interfaces. The application space that we are using the solution to target is mostly high-speed signaling or memory interface. I would encourage people to use it and get some experience to see how they feel using it and how they like it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"B-scan is its most valuable feature."
"It takes 35 to 45 minutes to get acclimated to the solution."
"The most valuable features are everything they do. We primarily use the O-scopes and they help us figure out what's going wrong with our scope out signals."
"The sensitivity of the trigger and the reliability are the most valuable features."
"When I was looking for a scope for that lab, that five subdivisions per division was important."
"It has a good user interface. It's easy to use, easy to read. It's intuitive."
"The user interface is good, not very complicated. It is very intuitive."
"This solution provides high confidence in the data being presented in the measurement to inform a design decision going forward."
"Checking how many errors were on the channel by using the protocol analyzer has helped me to improve my design on PCIe PETracers."
"We are able to capture the transient domain accurately. There are some technical features where you can do FFT."
"The most valuable feature is the embedded protocol analysis."
"It has a nice high-resolution screen. It is easy to set up the scope triggers, has a lot of scope trigger options for capturing waveforms, and seamlessly goes into the spectrum analysis mode."
"We heavily use it to validate the design assumption. In many cases, it was able to point out things that were not available to us in simulation."

Cons

"There was a learning curve, which was a little tricky at times. Getting used to the GUI took time because we had to learn the different features."
"It needs one button and every time you push it, you get whatever you need."
"There are other devices out there which are more capable, offering more features, with as good quality tech support."
"I am not utilizing the full bandwidth of this product."
"I would like to see more integration into machine learning because that's what we try to apply it to."
"If they could make the user interface even more intuitive that would help. If they could make it easier to read, to know where the buttons are, that's all I need."
"On the source side, their AWGs don't have enough bandwidth. They need to increase the bandwidth of their AWGs, meaning they have to have a faster sample rate."
"We are looking for an Intel platform with the newest chipset."
"I would like more technical details on what each packet represents and more information on the flow."
"Since we do a lot of post processing when we download our waveforms to our computers, we need more post processing capabilities."
"They could always work on the software stability of the products, particularly now that everything has switched over to a Windows-based interface. It creates a lot of crashes and bugs, which typically is a problem among all instruments."
"The interconnect methods to the device are a little limited right now. I'd like to see other ways of being able to connect to the device."
"I would like them to be current with the latest standards. So, as soon as a new standard comes in, ensure that it gets rolled into the existing software."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Tecktronix pricing tends to be pretty fair and reasonable with current market trends. They don't usually bump up the price too much."
"The pricing is very expensive."
"They're all pretty expensive. If everything costs that much, I suppose the pricing is fair."
"Pricing could be lower. I would want to buy it for an extremely, low price, but Tektronix is a high-end product."
"It could always be cheaper."
"It is a great price for a great product."
"The pricing is not too high and not too low."
"It costs a quarter of a million. This technology is not cheap."
"The bandwidth is pretty expensive on these instruments, so we typically use it all."
"They're fairly competitive for pricing across the industry."
"I would like them to include a lot of the add-on options as part of the package. Typically, we start in at a price, and by the time we add up all the options that we need which are available, we are at double or triple the original price."
