An overall stable product for managing its multiple products, each having different features
Pros and Cons
  • "It has been working pretty well for us...By and large, things are pretty stable."
  • "Setting up anything resembling a shared inbox is still kind of a giant pain in the solution."

What is our primary use case?

We manage our district email accounts with Google Chrome Enterprise. We also manage Google Drive and Chromebooks with it. We manage everything that kind of touches any of the aforementioned tools. We also have it hooked up to various other services, so we use it for single sign-on. The purpose is that really here sort of how to describe beyond that, I'd need a sort of more specific target in order if you wanted more details about it.

What is most valuable?

I love not having to deal with Exchange or other email servers. By large, Google emails are pretty easy to set up and keep running. With enterprise-level tools, you get a lot of useful troubleshooting and security stuff. There have been instances where we've had phishing and spear phishing attempts where once we found out about it, we could, like, literally, within a couple of minutes, remove that exact email from every single inbox of the users within a matter of minutes. As you can imagine, that's a wondrous tool to have because it's a lot more effective trying to tell a bunch of people not to open an email. Those are some of the main things I can think of, sort of, off the top of my head, besides, you know, you can use it for SSO. And sometimes, even user provisioning other stuff with a variety of services is also pretty handy.

What needs improvement?

Setting up anything resembling a shared inbox is still kind of a giant pain in the solution. Also, it's hard to sort of use Google Drive at a large scale for shared documents and procedures and stuff like that. Those are sort of the only real pain points I can sort of think of right now. By and large, we've got it pretty well plugged into a lot of other stuff that may just make any sort of pain points pretty manageable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with Google Chrome Enterprise. We have been using Google Suite Enterprise Edition since late 2020.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

By and large, things are pretty stable. If I remember, last week, it was exchanged when it got hampered. I heard it wasn't working globally for a while. We haven't had anything like that. So, there wasn't any effect of our actual network getting hampered or something. So, it seems to be pretty stable overall.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It has been working pretty well for us, but we're a pretty small institution overall. We've got 1800 students and 400 staff members. So, it works pretty well for our site. There are organizations that are larger than us that apparently use it just fine, and that makes it believable when I say that it scales up pretty well.

How are customer service and support?

I have contacted Google's technical support. I rate the support an eight out of ten. They do tend to be useful since, at one point, they actually put me in contact specifically with one of their experts when I was having trouble integrating our setup with another service. For that particular incident, the expert discovered after running a couple of experiments that the documentation both on the Google side of the equation and on the other vendor side of the equation was actually slightly out of date and incorrect, which are about a couple of very small but critical things. So, overall they offer positive support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use Meraki for around 90 percent of our networking stuff. We use Vivi for screen projection. Also, we use Hapara for classroom management, and we use Securly for web filtering. With Meraki MDM, I only played around with it briefly when we were exploring different MDM solutions. It basically looked really nice, but based on the limited amount of time we spent playing with it, the problem was that the price tag was a little too rich for us.

How was the initial setup?

I can't comment on the setup since the tool was a part of the institution before I joined.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I haven't compared their pricing with any other equivalent services recently. So all I can say is just for us since we just recently re-upped our three-year contract for Google Education Enterprise, whatever the name is for their highest level enterprise. With the education enterprise suite, I found the pricing to be pretty reasonable overall.

What other advice do I have?

To those planning to use the tool, I would ask them to learn how to use dynamic groups really early on. That's a pretty feature they added a year or two ago, and we've slowly been taking advantage of it. So, that's removed some of the biggest sorts of annoying pain points we had to deal with in the past. For instance, we couldn't previously make groups that were automatically tied to org units. We can just create a dynamic group where the sole user properly looks to see if a person belongs to the organization. If they do, it adds them to a dynamic group. So, learning how to use dynamic groups early on would probably be very advantageous for a variety of reasons.

Overall, I've been pretty happy with it. I just haven't been able to, you know, use any sort of other equivalent rivals with which I can provide an accurate comparison from an overall perspective.

I would rate the overall tool at least an eight out of ten. I would even maybe rate it a nine, but an eight out of ten would be safer.

On par with Linux when it comes to securing financial transactions
Pros and Cons
  • "The best part of Chrome is security."
  • "Chromebooks are hard to find in the Indonesian market."

What is most valuable?

The best part of Chrome is security, and I love using it when I use the Internet and deal with money transactions.

What needs improvement?

Chromebooks are hard to find in the Indonesian market. The government just gives Chromebooks to schools and for use cases like education. But for people outside the government or in commercial use, it is hard to find Chromebooks. And the HP Chromebook version 11 has just disappeared. For the future, I would love it if there were more Chromebook options in the market.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using the solution a few months ago. I use the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Google Chrome Enterprise is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable. There are about ten users in my company.

How was the initial setup?

I had no problem with the initial setup. The solution takes five minutes to set up if you're using a Chromebook. And when you have a good Internet connection, there is no problem.

There are two ways to use the Chrome Operating System. The first way is to buy the Chromebook, and that's the best option. The second way is to deploy it using Flex. The second option is better because it is hard to find Chromebooks in my region.

We don't need a technical team to maintain the solution.

What about the implementation team?

For the Chrome ecosystem, an integrator is not too useful. But for educators, they are useful. The real problem some face with the Chrome operating system or the Chromebook is when dealing with daily activity.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Google Chrome Enterprise a ten out of ten. We prefer using Chrome's operating system and Linux, especially for dealing with transactions.

A scalable and easy-to-deploy solution that is stable and easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is easy to use."
  • "The product must improve its speed."

What is most valuable?

The solution is easy to use. We can do a lot of things with the tool that we cannot do on other products. The solution is fast. It helps in fast browsing.

What needs improvement?

The product must improve its speed. Sometimes, it is slow.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable. I am the only user of the solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy. We just need to buy it, create an account, log in, and use it.

What about the implementation team?

I can do the deployment myself.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

A robust and flexible tool that offers breadth and capabilities with various extensions and plug-ins
Pros and Cons
  • "The breadth and capability of the various extensions and plug-ins that are out there for Chrome to do additional things on top of just working in the browser are fantastic."
  • "I wish there was a way that they could update things a little less often if anything. I think a lot of enterprise customers are frustrated... Certain plug-ins like ad blockers will lose some functionality in the next quarter to half a year."

What is our primary use case?

Speaking about use cases, it's the predominant browser in the market. Also, it's the first choice for working with Google applications, like Google Workspace is the product we use the most, while the extensibility and manageability of Google Chrome when you have a browser that is enrolled and managed by your Google Workspace is fantastic as far as to restrict things and prevent people from loading any old random extension and whitelist and pre-install certain extensions for other people in your organization and also while being able to use them without having to get the tool themselves. It is a pretty direct, robust, and flexible solution. Also, the fact that Chrome is basically the commercially released public solution that resides on top of Chromium, which is used for a lot of other things as well. S, it means you've got a lot of great interoperability capabilities, and a lot of people's eyeballs are looking at the functionality and security of this product.

What is most valuable?

The solution has so many features that it's hard to pick out just a couple. Again, I think having a user signed into their Google Workspace account and having the browser enrolled, then those functions can be managed through our Google admin console. Also, it is fantastic from a fleet management and user support aspect. The breadth and capability of the various extensions and plug-ins that are out there for Chrome to do additional things on top of just working in the browser are fantastic. At the end of the day, it is a browser that a lot of people seem to prefer considering that in our organization, we don't force people to use Chrome. We tell them that it's the browsers that we officially support, so if something doesn't work in a different browser, we ask them to try to do the same thing in Chrome. From over five hundred users, I have less than ten percent that seem to be using anything other than Chrome on a regular basis.

What needs improvement?

Speaking about improvements needed in the solution, I would say that their security is great overall. I wish there was a way that they could update things a little less often if anything. I think a lot of enterprise customers are frustrated with the browser providers and a lot of web 2.0 technology providers in this internet era where there's a lot of thinking because of the developments going on, where every six weeks, you're going to have a sprint before releasing new features, etcetera. So, we want new releases on a quarterly basis. We want it once a year. Otherwise, too many features are introduced too quickly. Honestly, other than that, there was something else I was going to say. So, a big concern is coming with the way that they're changing the way that Chrome interacts with extensions and plug-ins in the next two generations. Certain plug-ins like ad blockers will lose some functionality in the next quarter to half a year. And while that ad blocker is not something that I use, I know some people use it to deal with junky ads, etcetera. So there's a lot of concern that Google's not listening to the community on that one because folks have said they don't want that functionality to change. And I think Google's perspective is that making this change allows them to better secure their browser. But, I think it's really something that should depend on the preference of the users. If I can take that little bit of risk of vulnerability, it means I'm not having every ad pop up in front of me.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have supported Google Chrome Enterprise for thirteen to fourteen years. It's pretty hard not to use the latest version of the tool. I am a customer of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is pretty stable for me, and I know there are some who have issues with it occasionally, but I'm going to give it a ten out of ten for stability too.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is highly scalable, and it's gotten so much better over the years. There were issues back when it first came out that prevented us from doing a lot of things or things we could only do to configure a file from the endpoint. Now I feel like almost every aspect of the browser can be remotely managed if needed. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I hope I don't have to contact the support team because if you want, it's not easy. When I was at Chicago Public Schools, we had issues, and we would be able to reach out to Google support because of the level of contract and level of commitments that we had, but that was, again, hundreds of thousands of users and that we were very high at that time when they were doing a big education push with Chromebooks, etcetera, so they really wanted to be able to get our feedback and to help us with our use cases and solution. But nowadays, I feel like if we have an issue, we just have to sit around and hope that a lot of other people have that same issue, which will get passed in the next version of Chrome.

How was the initial setup?

The installation process is super easy. So, you install it, and then it updates itself, especially if you've got an old version that you had installed somehow previously. So, there are a number of enterprise settings available. Suppose you need to customize the way that it launches the first time or the way it does certain things. In that case, you can customize many, many aspects of the browser, either in stand-alone or packages that you're deploying to your endpoints or via that Google Workspace admin console where you've got your browser enrolled since there's a configuration deployed with it to automatically enroll your browser in your enterprise endpoint. And then, all those settings you want just get delivered from Google Workspace. So, that's fantastic.

What other advice do I have?

They're the king of the market. So, they do improve it all the time. I would like to see everyone not just using Chrome or a Chromium browser. Either Microsoft is using the same engine as Google now, and that's good as far as compatibility, but not necessarily great as far as having things on the web being done in a way that is generic and useful to any given web browser, whether it's using Chrome as its underlying engine or the Chromium base, or whether it's completely separate. I rate the overall solution a seven and a half out of ten.

Assists in testing our web applications and helps synchronize everything related to internet web browsing across all our devices
Pros and Cons
  • "Bookmarking is very good because they are synchronized across all devices."
  • "Additional data security and data privacy features could be proactively recommended by Google."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for the solution for testing our web applications.

How has it helped my organization?

Google Chrome Enterprise has helped synchronize everything related to internet web browsing across all our devices. For example, if a person is browsing on one device and wants to pick up on another device, they can easily access it.

What is most valuable?

The Google History tab is valuable because it is very easy to navigate through history and look at open tabs on different devices. Additionally, its integration with Google Search is very good, and bookmarking is very good because they are synchronized across all devices.

What needs improvement?

The Google browser extensions are generally useful, but the solution can be improved by including additional extensions that can be adapted to support different browsing behaviours. For example, it could be more proactive in recommending extensions. Additional data security and data privacy features could be proactively recommended by Google to show users that their data is being used responsibly.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for many years, and we are currently using the latest version.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution an eight out of ten. The solution is good but can improve by including additional extensions that can be adapted to support different browsing behaviours. I advise users adopting the solution to set it up across all their different devices to leverage it in the best way possible and continuously update their browsers.

Simple to set up with good support and free to use for non-profits
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has been stable."
  • "They need to deal with their memory management."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for email and other office tasks. It's used for internal user communication and various business operations.

What is most valuable?

We like that we use so many of the tools every day for our business.

The initial setup was pretty simple.

It's a scalable product.

The solution has been stable.

It's free to use. They don't charge educational or non-profit institutions.

Technical support is great.

What needs improvement?

They need to deal with their memory management. Google Chrome is very RAM hungry. It takes up a lot of RAM resources.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We're not a very big company. We're pretty small. That said, I've found the solution to be able to scale well. It's not a problem to extend it.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support has been very good. They are helpful and responsive. We have no issues with support.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is very simple to implement. There's no complexity in the setup process. I found it to be very easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We're an educational non-profit. We don't have to pay money to use the solution.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. I love Google. It's a great product.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Plenty of extensions, useful multiple device account sharing, but heavy on resources
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution is user-friendly with security features detecting if there is suspicious activity on the browser. There is a lot of extensions we can use to provide us with good coverage."
  • "In an upcoming release, the enhanced troubleshooting feature needs to improve to be able to identify the issues for the use case and for the user experience."

What is our primary use case?

Whenever we want to test one of our products, we are using this solution. When we have a new feature or changes, we test it on the browser. It comes with many extensions and we use it on a daily basis to do all our tests.

What is most valuable?

This solution is user-friendly with security features detecting if there is suspicious activity on the browser. There is a lot of extensions we can use to provide us with good coverage.

Your account can be shared with multiple devices to allow you access to all of your saved data, this is useful if you move from one device to another.

What needs improvement?

The performance could improve because it uses many computer resources. If you are low on resources, such as RAM, it can cause some slowness in the computer. However, this does not happen all the time and I think if you have the proper allocated amount of RAM it would work smoothly.

In an upcoming release, the enhanced troubleshooting feature needs to improve to be able to identify the issues for the use case and for the user experience.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately one year.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If we want to expand how many users are using the solution it scales to our needs. If you want a larger team there would be no problems scaling up.

We currently have approximately 200 users using this solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

There is a vast amount of documentation and help material online from Google to support our needs.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are on a monthly subscription for this solution.

What other advice do I have?

I would highly recommend this solution for any enterprise that is looking to use this tool for their workspace. Google is a well-known enterprise and this solution includes many features which are scalable for remote work.

I rate Google Chrome Enterprise a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
