The most valuable features are price and becoming certified.
Pros and Cons
- "The stability is great for our customers and for us; it's perfect."
- "HPE Mexico takes a lot of time to register and deliver. After we negotiated the final price, HPE releases it and then it takes 48 to 72 hours to deliver it."
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are having the proper contacts, getting a better price, and becoming certified. For example, our partners get certified because we are the only partner who has the most certifications.
How has it helped my organization?
It has helped us work much better.
What needs improvement?
HPE Mexico takes a lot of time to register and deliver. After we negotiated the final price, HPE releases it and then it takes 48 to 72 hours to deliver it. This is not the best deal.
For how long have I used the solution?
for the last 4 years

The initial setup was very complex, because it was our first installation.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We didn't evaluate any other solutions besides HPE.
What other advice do I have?
Of course, you should go for it. We are an HPE shop and we have to focus on that. We have to focus more on the competence and less on the financial considerations.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

IOPS, reliability and the value that it adds to our organization are the most valuable features.
Pros and Cons
- "IOPS, reliability and the value that it adds to our organization are the most valuable features."
- "We had some initial hardware problems that gave us a bad taste."
What is most valuable?
IOPS, reliability and the value that it adds to our organization are the most valuable features.
What needs improvement?
Maybe, there is a need to have an easier interface. They could improve the storage platforms.
There are some things that are missing. We had some initial hardware problems that gave us a bad taste. We did, eventually, fix them but it did take a little bit of time to resolve them. These were either hardware issues, disk drive issues or connectivity issues, we just couldn't figure it out.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
So far, the scalability is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is very scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is pretty good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were using a different solution previously, we were using EMC. Since we were hitting the ceiling of the hardware, we decided to switch over to HPE. Cost was the main reason why we moved over to HPE.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at other solutions such as HPE and Hitachi.
The most important criteria while selecting a vendor are if it is user-friendly, the support provided and cost.
What other advice do I have?
This is a great product.

The deduplication and compression features allow me to buy less storage to fulfill my business needs.
Pros and Cons
- "Don’t have any second thoughts and just go with it, as it is really a great product and should fulfill most business needs while being easy to use."
- "Support has gone down a little bit in the past few years."
What is most valuable?
The ease-of-use, reliability, and the value I get for the capacity are the most valuable features. All of the deduplication and compression features allow me to buy much less storage to fulfill my business needs. I don't have very many support issues with it.
How has it helped my organization?
The benefit to the company is less down time. I can put my time towards other things, such as finding ways to increase performance or doing more proactive tasks.
What needs improvement?
Support has gone down a little bit in the past few years. It's hard to get the right person initially and sometimes you have to wait for a call back. It was better when it was 3PAR.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability is great and it's getting better every year. I have less and less issues as HPE works on the software.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Our newer array is much more scalable than I had in the past. I don't anticipate ever reaching a limit on it.
How are customer service and technical support?
Overall, technical support is great, other than some problems getting connected with the right person. But once you get to the right technical resources, they are very easy to work with and quickly resolve our issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Initially, we were using another HPE DBA product and we were hitting its limits. So this was a great fit for us. We bought it just before HPE acquired it and the solution has been great ever since. This solution replaced a product that wasn't scaling well for us. Now we have a nice, scalable solution.
When we are looking for a vendor, we want somebody who can be a true partner with us and not just somebody trying to sell us something.
How was the initial setup?
I was not involved in the setup of the original 3PARs we have, but I was involved in five subsequent installations. They were straightforward compared to other storage products that I've used, such EMC.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I'm sure they probably looked at EMC, but I wasn't there for the initial sale. For now, we are staying with HPE.
What other advice do I have?
Don’t have any second thoughts and just go with it. It's really a great product and should fulfill most business needs. It is easy to use.

It allowed us to put storage in remote facilities without purchasing a complete SAN solution.
Pros and Cons
- "Its ease of administration and reliability are the most valuable features."
- "There is a need for just cleaning up the administration page a little more and making it a little faster."
What is most valuable?
Its ease of administration and reliability are the most valuable features.
How has it helped my organization?
It allowed us to put storage in remote facilities without purchasing a complete SAN solution.
What needs improvement?
There is a need for just cleaning up the administration page a little more and making it a little faster. We'd like to see a little more preemptive alerts for the usage and spikes.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability has been great, we haven't had any issues with it. The normal firmware patches come out to keep it up to date.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability has been great. As we have needed to add storage, its just a matter of adding the disk and then, adding them to the bulk.
How are customer service and technical support?
For the 3PAR the technical support has been great. They've been able to help us with any issues that we've had.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
This was a net new solution for our remote facilities so we had nothing in place. This was something that we purchased and built out ourselves.
How was the initial setup?
I was involved in the initial setup and it was very straightforward, specifically for the way that we wanted to configure it. It was the ease of administration, setting up the pool, connecting it to the chassis and then, zoning it to our brocade fabric that made the setup straightforward.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at Dell, EMC and Pure Storage. However, HPE was the only one that provided the flat SAN solution that we wanted for those remote locations.
The important factor while selecting a vendor is the range of products for the solution in terms of the issue that I'm trying to fill. Also, how the vendors support their products and the price are other crucial factors that we look at before selecting a vendor.
What other advice do I have?
Make sure you're looking at everything that's out there and that 3PAR has come a long way.

Manageability and reliability are the most valued features.
Pros and Cons
- "The system has been up and running for almost four years now and there has not been an issue anywhere."
What is most valuable?
Manageability and reliability are the most valued features of 3PAR. We've had no issues with it. We did a lot of research before we installed it. The other three companies we looked at were top of the line.
How has it helped my organization?
We did not lose connectivity, as we did with the other units. We've had no failed drives. The system has been up and running for almost four years now and there has not been an issue anywhere.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is very scalable. We've added quite a bit to it since we started.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have used technical support. They were great.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
The system we had prior to 3PAR had a lot of drives. We didn't lose any data, but it was just not reliable.
How was the initial setup?
I was involved in the initial setup. It was pretty straightforward.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at two other vendors. One was Compellent and one was EMC. Through our research and talking to various companies that were already using 3PAR, it was determined to be the better product.
When selecting a product, reliability and support are the most important requirements.
What other advice do I have?
It's a very reliable product. I would advise them to get it.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Operations Manager at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
It has simplified the management of the array.
Pros and Cons
- "For their own benefit, they really should consider 3PAR; it is so reliable, functional, has great support from HPE, and it is tied into so many of the HPE family of products."
- "I was involved in the initial setup and it was complex."
What is most valuable?
There are tools in place that allowed easy migration from our existing infrastructure, i.e., our EVA arrays. We have a great relationship with HPE that has worked over many years. We have great confidence in what they can deliver for us and that it will fit in well with our existing environment.
How has it helped my organization?
The availability of the 3PAR array is the greatest benefit. The ability to perform upgrades to the machine while it remains online is very valuable. It saved us from making our systems unavailable. In addition, the tools that are built into the 3PAR array are a significant improvement and give us great visibility into what's actually being used and how it's being used. It has simplified the management of the array.
What needs improvement?
If you're familiar with 3PAR, there are multiple GUIs that have been available over a course of time and the new SSMC GUI is excellent. It has great consistency against the HPE line, so that an operator is immediately familiar with it. However, there are a few features that were included in the previous GUI that haven't been brought forward, or maybe are not quite as obvious. I would like to see some of those previous resources brought forward, or at least an option to see an emulation of that previous GUI.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We had great availability and stability with our previous HPE arrays and that has continued with 3PAR. We have not had a single incident of downtime nor have we had any service interruptions of any kind.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability seems to be very good. I think it's been one of the strengths of HPE products in the array space for a long time. With 3PAR, the scalability is excellent.
How is customer service and technical support?
The technical support is very good. The folks that have come in to work with us, particularly on some of our software upgrades on the machine, have been excellent. The field service staff is just superior.
How was the initial setup?
I was involved in the initial setup and it was complex. There is more to it than there was in previous arrays, but I think that really ties into making the machine valuable to us. We probably have to rely on HPE a little more for the setup, but they did such a great job. I understand that it was necessary and I appreciate it.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our arrays were getting on the older side. The new array fits in with our existing infrastructure very well. We have a great history with HPE support and it wasn't a difficult sell. We did look at other options, but in reality, because of the long-standing great relationship and outstanding support, we went with HPE.
What other advice do I have?
For their own benefit, they really should consider 3PAR. It's so reliable, functional, has great support from HPE, and it is tied into so many of the HPE family of products. It is a great piece of hardware.

Provides ease of setup and connectivity to our server environment.
Pros and Cons
- "We use it for our VND environment; it’s made it easy to make sure we have the highest throughput capable and has helped with our connectivity to our DL servers, making functionality a lot easier."
- "To make it even better, it could be faster."
What is most valuable?
Ease of setup and connectivity to our server environment.
How has it helped my organization?
We use it for our VND environment. It’s made it easy to make sure we have the highest throughput capable. It has helped with our connectivity to our DL servers. It’s made functionality a lot easier, doing that.
What needs improvement?
As far as what I do with it, I don't have any additional needs from the system. It is doing exactly what we need it to do. To make it even better, it could be faster.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable. The only issue that we've had with our 3PAR system was caused by a firmware update and it caused an outage. It was actually a human issue.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It’s very scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support was actually really good. Once we got the right person on the call, then it was actually resolved pretty quick.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We changed to the 3PAR solution to do a direct connect to 3PAR. Before that, we had a VND environment and we were connected to a larger SAN array. We actually had HPE come on-site. They drew up the solution and the architecture that we wanted to do and they actually were able to implement it based upon what our needs were. When selecting a vendor, we look for support, which is one of the biggest things. Other elements are up-time and hardware reliability.
How was the initial setup?
I was involved with initial setup. HPE came on site for the configuration and they were really good.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We have IBM solutions on the docket. We are really big. Our storage team has everything, so we actually brought in 3PAR to get it in-house.
What other advice do I have?
Work with HPE and the sales team. The HPE sales team has been great to work with. They offered a great solution to us.

We're using Peer-to-Peer for two data centers and having that fill over is what we really needed for disaster recovery.
Pros and Cons
- "We're using Peer-to-Peer for two data centers and having that fill over instantaneous is what we really needed for disaster recovery."
- "The thing that we're a little bit bummed about is they're not so quick to get it with the latest version of VMware and we're also using an older version of OneView; so to get to the newer/later releases, it seems like it's a two week process for two different data centers."
What is most valuable?
The speed of the Flash Array is better than what we had with the previous products. We like their blades better than the Cisco Blades. It is easier to manage.
How has it helped my organization?
We're using Peer-to-Peer for two data centers and having that fill over instantaneous is what we really needed for disaster recovery.
What needs improvement?
The thing that we're a little bit bummed about is they're not so quick to get it with the latest version of VMware and we're also using an older version of OneView; so to get to the newer/later releases, it seems like it's a two week process for two different data centers. If they could streamline that process, make it a little quicker, maybe so that the customer can do it, instead of hiring somebody else, then it would be helpful.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
So far, we're very stable; we've been using it for a couple of years now.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Its scalability is really good because we're only using a third of the array's storage that we have, so we'll be able to keep that for several more years.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support team is very good. We've gotten a really good response from them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We needed a faster storage and more capacity, so that's why we upgraded and switched from EMC to HPE.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was pretty straightforward.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did look at Hitachi and they were a close second to HPE. However, it was just that, we were more familiar with HPE because we already had some of their C-Class Blades.
Manageability is an important criterion while selecting a vendor. Also, for system administrators like myself, it is important to be able to understand the solution right off the bat.
What other advice do I have?
Probably, you should purchase the CS700 all-in-one storage, so that it's easy to implement it that way. Don't try to do it yourself.

Storage Engineer at Syniverse
We added this solution to our organization because of its price-point, speed and performance.
Pros and Cons
- "Ease of use, cost, and provisioning are the most valuable features."
- "There is need to have pre-defined setups for your clients so that you know that the configuration at the LS is correct."
What is most valuable?
Ease of use, cost, and provisioning are the most valuable features.
How has it helped my organization?
It's just something that we added because of its price-point, speed and performance.
What needs improvement?
There is need to have pre-defined setups for your clients so that you know that the configuration at the LS is correct.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability is good; we had issues at first, but we have cleared them up.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We haven't tried scaling it, yet. I'm sure it will be fine.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have had to use technical support, they were very good. It was a little slow at first, but once we got over that, they were good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are a large EMC shop and have a lot of EMC products.
The most important criteria while selecting a vendor are the cost and support.
How was the initial setup?
The setup was complex because we were using iSCSI and we don't have a lot of iSCSI at our shop; this made it a little bit more cumbersome for us since we're generally Fiber-attached. This was resolved after we contacted HPE support.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Since we're an EMC shop, we test a lot of stuff.
What other advice do I have?
It's a good product. We like it so far and haven't been unhappy with it.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
