Great reliability, stability, scalability, and user interface
Pros and Cons
  • "Its stability is the most valuable. It has soft alerts. When an alert is raised, we get a call from HP saying that there is this type of alert, and they need to do a remote session to check things. Similarly, for firmware updates, they get in touch to say that a firmware upgrade is required on your storage. They schedule a time and take control remotely to upgrade the firmware. In all such cases, there is no downtime. Everything is done when a full-fledged operation is going on. Its user interface is also quite good. We are quite accustomed to this user interface. We can easily take a look at the current usage or the amount of storage. It is quite easily understandable, and I can present those things to my seniors or other people who are not that tech-savvy, and they can easily understand what we are trying to tell them. We can easily show them that we are using around 87% of the storage, so we need to plan for another tree and things like that."
  • "Its price is a bit high for adding another tree."

What is our primary use case?

We use it only for storage.

What is most valuable?

Its stability is the most valuable.

We can easily show them that we are using around 87% of the storage, so we need to plan for another tree and things like that.

What needs improvement?

Its price is a bit high for adding another tree.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very reliable. In these four years, we have not had any big failure or faced any issue.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is not an issue. If someone has 3PAR and within one or two years, they find that they need to add more storage, it would not be an issue. It will scale perfectly fine.

We have already consumed around 87% of the storage. We may have to add another tree. We had a discussion with HPE, and it was quite good. The only reason for not going forward with it was that the amount of money that we will be spending in just upgrading the storage has a life of only two and a half years now. We are now evaluating whether we should invest this much money for two and a half years, or we should invest more and buy a completely new storage. We can then use this storage for other backups and all those less important steps.

From the application side, we have 50 users. There are also a lot of other users who are connecting to the applications and the storage because their data resides on the storage. For its maintenance, we don't require any engineers.

How are customer service and support?

We haven't raised a single ticket with HPE regarding 3PAR, but they always call us if there is any soft alert or any firmware upgrade. The only thing that we have to do is to schedule a remote session during which they will perform the update activities.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before HPE 3PAR, we were using Dell EMC. We have used three storages from EMC. The first one was very reliable. It was 300 series that we were using in 2003 or 2004. After that, we replaced it with the 400 series EMC storage, but it was not that reliable. Every three to four months, one of the disks would fail invariably, and we had to raise a ticket. After some time, they will review the ticket. They didn't ask any questions, and they would just replace it and take the faulty one. After that, we moved from the Dell EMC storage to HPE 3PAR, which has been very reliable. We haven't faced any issues in all these years.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is really smooth.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is a bit high for adding another tree, but when we purchased it, it was okay with us. We had compared it with EMC and other solutions, and it was okay at that point in time.

Our storage has a lifespan of seven to eight years. When you purchase it, you need to keep a headroom of around 40% to 50%. After three to four years, you generally plan for an upgrade. The price is not so bad today for two years or so, and within a year, I might find that I have to upgrade or increase the storage. This usually happens when there is a radical change or a new application has come that is consuming a lot of data, but generally, there is a plan for the amount of data that we generate and the storage upgrade.

What other advice do I have?

3PAR is very much reliable. In these four years, I've not raised a single ticket with HPE regarding 3PAR.

I would rate HPE 3PAR StoreServ a nine out of ten. It has good support, good UI, and good reliability.

Straightforward with good duplication but the replication is a bit complicated
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution offers good stability."
  • "The replicating software is pretty complicated. I probably would have put it on a sequence."

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for Oracle Databases. We're are also using it for VMware and NetBackup. It's one of the storage solutions for NetBackup.

What is most valuable?

The primary system comes with not too much software and is pretty simple and straightforward. You're not really using too much. The solution doesn't make things that are too complicated.

The replicating software is very good and the duplication part of it is very efficient.

Technical support is pretty good.

The solution offers good stability.

It has a good ability to scale.

What needs improvement?

The replicating software is pretty complicated. I probably would have put it on a sequence.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about a year now. It hasn't been too long.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is pretty good. We haven't had issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In general, the solution can scale. That shouldn't be a problem.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support on offer is very nice. They are knowledgeable and responsive. We're very satisfied with their level of service so far.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Synergy. The company wanted to go to an all-flash drive. At the time, HPE was one of the biggest manufacturers of all-flash drive. Therefore, it made sense to switch.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty straightforward. It was easy to go back and look at it. It wasn't too complex at all.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is moderately priced. It's not the cheapest, nor is it the most expensive option.

What other advice do I have?

We're just customers. We don't have a business relationship with HPE.

Anyone interested in any solution should probably research the software that comes with their own system a little bit better. If you do that, there's a chance that you might not buy some of the things that we bought and that were defaulted on setup. That was not good. Knowing what works together well will help in the long run. Don't be afraid if a third-party asks you questions. They're probably just trying to get to the bottom of how your setup looks.

I'd rate the solution six out of ten overall.

Pros and Cons
  • "It is a stable solution."
  • "They should add AI-enabled dashboards to the solution."

What is most valuable?

The solution provides streamlined deployment compared to other products. It has a smooth interface and configuration. Also, it is easier to do pre-requested checks as well.

What needs improvement?

They should add AI-enabled dashboards to the solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for around three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. We have around 500 customers using it.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup process is easy. If there are no hardware issues during initial configuration checks, the process takes two and a half hours to complete. It requires two executives for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's price is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

I advise others to test the feasibility of the solution's compatibility checks feature when moving from source to target. Apart from that, it is easy to use. I rate it as a nine.

User-friendly, useful interface, and highly reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "HPE 3PAR StoreServ has a good interface, it is user-friendly and easy to use."
  • "Here in Algeria, we are facing a lot of trouble finding partners and getting support from HPE. There should be better support here in our country."

What is our primary use case?

We host and store everything we have in HPE 3PAR StoreServ. We created the laws and connected them to our servers, and on those servers, we have VMware as a hypervisor. We make backups of all the data from the servers.

What is most valuable?

HPE 3PAR StoreServ has a good interface, it is user-friendly and easy to use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used HPE 3PAR StoreServ within the past 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been working perfectly, we have not had any issues since we purchased it. HPE 3PAR StoreServ is highly reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

HPE 3PAR StoreServ is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Here in Algeria, we are facing a lot of trouble finding partners and getting support from HPE. There should be better support here in our country.

What other advice do I have?

Recently we had an issue because we added some hard drives to HPE 3PAR StoreServ and we needed to upgrade the VMware to allow support by HPE 3PAR StoreServ hard drives.

We were discussing with our IT manager if we were going to stay with this solution or are we going to use another solution for a disaster recovery plan because we need a disaster recovery plan.

I rate HPE 3PAR StoreServ a nine out of ten.

Great for hosting virtual infrastructure with helpful technical support and good performance
Pros and Cons
  • "We're hosting virtual infrastructure on the 3PAR storage and it's been very good for that."
  • "The product is quite expensive."

What is our primary use case?

We've only used this solution for two instances. Most of the time we are using HP MSA fiber channel storage, the 1060 or 2060. We primarily use the solution for virtualization. We're hosting virtual machines on the 3PAR storage.

What is most valuable?

We're hosting virtual infrastructure on the 3PAR storage and it's been very good for that.

The product is stable.

What needs improvement?

The product is quite expensive. The costs involved are high.

We would like the product to make it more of a straightforward procedure when we need to configure storage. There were quite a lot of options and parameters that we don't have knowledge of. We used some external company to make the configuration for us, for the 3PAR storage.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for a few years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the product is good. They offer good performance. It doesn't crash or freeze. There are no bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't attempted to scale the solution yet. Therefore, I can't speak to how easy it would be to expand it.

That said, from what I've seen, it does appear to be simple to scale.

We have 100 users on the product right now.

At this point, we do not have plans to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

We've contacted technical support from HP for 3PAR in the past. We needed to upgrade the firmware of the storage. We needed some support from HP, which was excellent. We are satisfied so far. There have been no issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use a different solution.

We're aware of a few different storage options. 3PAR, Nimble, and Premier Storage are pretty expensive. This brings the cost up too high for some projects.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't handle the initial setup or the configuration. I can't speak to how the setup went, however, it was my understanding that it was a bit complex.

There was two or three technical personnel that were used to handle the initial setup. They were admins and engineers.

What about the implementation team?

It is my understanding that we had an external company configure the storage. It is not so straightforward, as far as I remember.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's a very expensive product. Companies need to be aware of that going in.

What other advice do I have?

I cannot recommend 3PAR. Most of the cases can be covered with entry-level storage, which is the HP MSA. 3PAR is needed for some quite big platforms or environments. Most of the time, the entry-level MSA storage is more than enough.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

It's fast and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "We choose 3PAR for its speed. It's so fast and reliable."
  • "Setting up 3PAR is somewhat complicated, and it took about a week."

What is our primary use case?

We use 3PAR for data storage in a factory setting. We currently have about 200 users working with it across multiple departments, including production and finance.

What is most valuable?

We choose 3PAR for its speed. It's so fast and reliable. I don't know what else to say about it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using 3PAR for about six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

3PAR is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

3PAR is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

One of 3PAR's advantages is that it's easy to find a qualified technician. It's such a common device. We are using it in Turkey. France, Spain, and other locations.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

3PAR is our first all-flash storage array. We had a different storage solution before, but it wasn't all-flash.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up 3PAR is somewhat complicated, and it took about a week. We need about two or three people for maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

HPE does the installation themselves. They were on time and fast.

What was our ROI?

We've seen a return on our investment, but it's hard to calculate it precisely. We plan to use it for the project for a minimum of five years, maybe more.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay a yearly license. It's affordable.

Useful features and reliable performance
Pros and Cons
  • "We use all the features, but some of the most valuable are the replication, priority optimization, provisioning, and deduplication. There are a lot of good features in this product."
  • "The GUI interface could be improved. I have been having trouble with one issue in particular. If you look at the DC and DR, if there is a communication break and the link went down—so the data is not replicating from DC to DR—there is no way to find out how much data is ready for transmission. Only the size of the data that needs to be transferred after the link comes up. If the firewall link is down, there is no way of seeing how much data is waiting to be transferred. This is a weak point of 3PAR."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case of this solution is to store all share market data. It's a depository system and we store the share market data and transactions in the central repository. This solution is deployed on-premises.

What is most valuable?

We use all the features, but some of the most valuable are the replication, priority optimization, provisioning, and deduplication. There are a lot of good features in this product.

What needs improvement?

The GUI interface could be improved. This is a weak point of 3PAR.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using 3PAR for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is stable and reliable. It has good performance and we have a team of three to monitor the 3PAR on a daily basis. The required technology is smarter, so in terms of on-site utilization, it's very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable. If I need more storage, they can just plug in to add it. I haven't faced this issue yet, but it seems like an easy process. I believe 3PAR is most suitable for small or medium sized companies.

How are customer service and support?

HPE's technical support is very good, compared to other vendors. I appreciate their support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process is simple and straightforward. The HPE team handled most of it, but we take care of the day-to-day monitoring. If I test an issue and communicate with their team, they provide online support. If we need physical hardware, they provide the physical hardware.

What about the implementation team?

The HPE partner team helped us with deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not sure on the pricing of this product because a different team handled that. I'm on the engineering team, so I handle the maintenance and those sorts of operations.

What other advice do I have?

I rate 3PAR a nine out of ten. Maybe there are better storage options, but from my experience 3PAR's performance is better than the other storage solutions I have used. The market has other big storage options, but I don't have experience in those. As of now, we are satisfied with this solution and I would recommend it to others.

Flexible and convenient with good integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is easy to install."
  • "While the stability is pretty good, it could always be improved upon."

What is most valuable?

It's a very convenient product. I find it easy to use.

It's very flexible in terms of management.

It's an enterprise tool.

The integration is good. We've integrated it with other UNIX platforms and Windows platforms.

The solution is easy to install.

The pricing is okay.

What needs improvement?

I'm not sure how good the security is.

While the stability is pretty good, it could always be improved upon.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for almost four years at this point. I've used it for a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been very stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and a company can expand it if they want to.

We only have 100 people that actually use the solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

The support on offer is very good. We don't have any issues with them. They are helpful and responsive and we are satisfied with the support we get when we need it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did use Hitachi last year.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not overly difficult or complex. it's pretty simple and straightforward.

The deployment is fast and within a day you can have everything up and running.

We have engineers available that can assist with deployment and maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

We had support from HPE directly. They assisted us in the implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We're using it as a SaaS. The pricing is reasonable. It's not cheap, however, I don't consider it to be overpriced.

We have an annual support contract. It will contain a certain percentage of the storage cost.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. I've been pretty happy with its capabilities.

I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.

We don't have plans to leave this solution any time soon. We'll likely have it for the next two to three years.
