Password manager has strengthened security and now supports faster logins with unique credentials
Pros and Cons
  • "The most significant impact is that LastPass Business has positively impacted my organization by dramatically increasing our security from 40% to 60% since we now have fewer data breaches and less concern about security."
  • "There are still some sites that do not autofill credentials in LastPass Business, which makes us search for the password manually, and this is time-consuming."

What is our primary use case?

LastPass Business has increased security throughout my organization, and it is used by multiple employees to store credentials, which has allowed us to increase password requirements and mitigate the risk of brute force password attacks.

We wanted to increase password length considerably, especially for admin capabilities, and by having the ability to autogenerate and store a secure password, we accomplished that through LastPass Business.

I appreciate the ability to autogenerate random secure passwords that are much more secure than passwords users generate themselves, which allows my team to use LastPass Business for storing credentials and improving security. It also allows our organization to stop reusing admin passwords and assign unique passwords to every device and account.

What is most valuable?

I appreciate the authentication policy of LastPass Business because it is quite simple and easy to use.

LastPass Business allows me to build powerful passwords by keeping me informed regarding its strength, and it has lessened my concerns to a great degree since it is secure and shields all of my personal information effectively.

Autofilling in forms and apps works well on phones, and generating a secure password and automatically passing the information on the page to store the credential securely is beneficial.

Decreasing the risk of brute force attacks by extending passwords and adding more complexity is valuable.

Sharing of the password for easy collaboration is beneficial, and ease of use is notable regarding features such as the password strength indicator and autofilling, as they impact my daily workflow positively.

The most significant impact is that LastPass Business has positively impacted my organization by dramatically increasing our security from 40% to 60% since we now have fewer data breaches and less concern about security.

Through increased security in advanced passwords, faster processing of work with autofill saves time from looking up passwords. Better control over user access to a stored password after termination is valuable.

We have been able to save a considerable amount of time with LastPass Business, as autofill saves approximately 30% of time from looking up passwords.

What needs improvement?

The autofill feature works well on most websites, but it does have an issue with some applications, which would not be a reason to purchase.

There are still some sites that do not autofill credentials in LastPass Business, which makes us search for the password manually, and this is time-consuming.

Additionally, secure notes in LastPass Business could be better organized, and there are too many locations to store information, making it difficult to go back through and find those notes.

Sometimes it can be difficult to access passwords offline with LastPass Business, which requires a full password.

How are customer service and support?

I would recommend LastPass Business because it has improved security in my organization. It is easy to use, very cost-effective, and the support has been very proactive, responsive, and solution-oriented.

Centralized password sharing has transformed onboarding and strengthened daily security practices
Pros and Cons
  • "LastPass Business has positively impacted my organization because my whole organization has been using this tool for business, and now all employees are able to monitor password strength, usage, and even access to different accounts."
  • "Some of the areas that need improvement for LastPass Business include that the user interface could use a refresh, which would be great."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for LastPass Business is that it allows our employees to securely manage their logins for services we use. It allows our teams to collaborate using shared resources, such as secure notes, document sharing, and access management to logins that groups share credentials for. Over the years, LastPass Business has improved their Chrome extension, making it easier for our employees to use this from their first day. Tools available for administrators have also improved along with documentation for security considerations.

A quick specific example of how my team uses LastPass Business day-to-day is that it's a great tool for onboarding new employees and creating a framework for using services at work securely. Documentation makes it easy for administrators to implement their own internal security policies and understand changes to services that occur when LastPass Business provides feature updates.

What is most valuable?

Some of the best features LastPass Business offers include browser login, app login, the ability to launch in the browser from the app, multi-platform support, and two-factor authentication.

Out of those features, the one my team relies on the most is login, which has been securely sharing all login credentials in an effective manner. This is very encouraging for me as a user to see LastPass Business showing its best in my company. LastPass Business is a great platform, and it has the ability to save time from having to seek a coworker in order to access their login information. Additionally, having access to LastPass Business means that one does not have to remember an ample amount of passwords just for the sake of getting any work done. I just have to log in and do the work, which promotes collaboration.

LastPass Business has positively impacted my organization because my whole organization has been using this tool for business, and now all employees are able to monitor password strength, usage, and even access to different accounts. LastPass Business has made the whole process of work quite easier to manage. Also, it has been very secure, sharing all login credentials in an effective manner, which is very encouraging for me as a user to see LastPass Business showing its best in my company.

What needs improvement?

Some of the areas that need improvement for LastPass Business include that the user interface could use a refresh, which would be great.

I would like to add that the Chrome extension sometimes lags on logging in.

I think that if they introduced multi-factor authentication, it would be great.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using LastPass Business for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I can say that LastPass Business is stable because I have not experienced any downtime or lagging.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

LastPass Business's scalability is very good. I would say it is very scalable because it can handle my organization's growth. It handles all the passwords from different accounts from multiple users.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support provided by LastPass Business is very responsive and proactive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before LastPass Business, I used the Okta Identity Cloud, which is why we moved to LastPass Business because it is a full and complex solution that can also offer us forms, credit cards, business cards, and many other solutions to have your users digitally safe and controlled. It can offer more than any other solution on the market in terms of safety due to the encryption level that it uses.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment because since there are fewer incidents of security threats, it has reduced help desk support calls. It is a secured and automated way for logins and identity management, which leads to easier handling.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that this is one of the cost-effective tools. It is very cost-effective and an affordable tool.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing LastPass Business, I only evaluated the Okta Identity Cloud.

What other advice do I have?

The advice I would give to others looking into using LastPass Business is that the solution provides a very easy-to-design interface and it can be straightforward to understand how to navigate and keep your identity safe. It is commendable.

Before we wrap up, I have additional thoughts about LastPass Business, which is that it is very easy to use and it can help users jump from their computer to their mobile device, such as an iPad or any other device. It can also be integrated with your Apple Watch to get notifications and allow or deny any logging attempt for multi-factor authentication, which makes this solution a must-have that every company should implement in their environments and should consider for their security journey. I would rate this product a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Straightforward to set up, good support, intuitive to use, and offers good value for the cost
Pros and Cons
  • "One feature that is really important to us is the ability to create secure notes."
  • "The fact that LastPass stores our passwords in an encrypted format, rather than being stored in somebody's email or text documents, is incredibly important to us."
  • "I struggle a little bit with the mobile app. As a browser extension, it works really well, and we are able to get to what we need to. However, on the phone, it's not quite as easy to navigate."
  • "I struggle a little bit with the mobile app. As a browser extension, it works really well, and we are able to get to what we need to; however, on the phone, it's not quite as easy to navigate."

What is our primary use case?

Our main use case is a vault for passwords, but as a segue into that, we also are encouraging users to develop more secure passwords. By using this product, they won't have to have simple passwords that they can remember. They can just use the product, have it create secure passwords, and then auto-populate as they go to the various sites that they're normally going to. By doing that, we're going to create a more secure environment here.

How has it helped my organization?

LastPass uses one password to get into everything, which has to be secure because if somebody does get that main password for a certain user then they have the keys to the kingdom. However, this is not much different than if somebody has all of their passwords stored in an Excel file or Word file, and somebody gets into it. Even in cases where people have a password-protected document where they store all of their passwords, the password to get into it is simple. The advantage to using LastPass is that they will create very difficult master passwords and then guard them, as opposed to having an Excel or Word file in several locations. Sometimes, people even forget about copies of their Excel or Word password files, which is not a good scenario.

The fact that LastPass stores our passwords in an encrypted format, rather than being stored in somebody's email or text documents, is incredibly important to us. I can't stress that enough. The Excel documents, Word documents, post-it notes, and other methods that we used to use, much to my chagrin, are going to go away. The reason that I don't want to use the other methods is that they are just not secure.

With respect to data leaks, one of the biggest problems that we have in the cyber community, in general, is poor passwords. The second would be multifactor authentication but poor passwords are way up there. By using this product, it is going to go a long way to circumvent that, or maybe even alleviate that problem in general. At least, it will slow it down significantly. Hopefully, we'll be greatly more secure.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is being able to use a single master password to access all of your other passwords.

One feature that is really important to us is the ability to create secure notes. In our scenario, these are notes such as how to get some of our devices on the network. They are processes and procedures that we don't want anybody else to see, especially within the IT department. It's a small department and we have very many processes that we use, but not on a daily basis, so we aren't going to remember them. By using LastPass and secure notes, we can go back to those notes in a secure fashion and remind ourselves how to do certain things. For instance, how to create a test database for accounting, which is something that we do once a year. We don't want that to be out in a non-secure fashion, where somebody in the public can see it.

What needs improvement?

I struggle a little bit with the mobile app. As a browser extension, it works really well, and we are able to get to what we need to. However, on the phone, it's not quite as easy to navigate.

For how long have I used the solution?

Personally, I have been working with LastPass for approximately three years. We are currently using the Family Plan to evaluate it within the company before we transition to LastPass Business.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There may have been one time where it was not accessible. From our experience, as long as we have internet, we're able to access the product. It seems to work and function correctly and from my impression, all of the information is there when we run it.

Overall, it's very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not yet tested for scalability. We have the six users that the family plan allowed. Within those six, we have taken people out and put other people in to see what they think about the product. But, as far as scaling and adding new users, we have not done that yet.

We have a lot of information stored in LastPass and I spoke with LastPass support to inquire about what would happen with the data that we entered into the system when we upgraded to the next level of service. I was assured that the data would remain intact and still available. This is good for us because I don't want to start over on what we've got so far.

We're looking to buy 101 licenses. It is not a huge deployment but for our world, that encompasses everyone.

How are customer service and support?

We've only had to contact technical support a couple of times and my personal experience was very good.

There are some products where the support is very poor and there are some products where the support has been good. I was pleased with the speed of response and the completeness of the response that I received from LastPass so to me, that is good.

I would rate their support a ten out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I tried another product, albeit a long time ago, and I was not pleased with it. LastPass is more intuitive when it comes to entering data and adding items. We are also able to edit data, which is easier than with our previous solution. It just seemed like it was a little more clunky, and not as cognitive.

How was the initial setup?

Overall, the initial setup is pretty straightforward. I struggled just a little bit with the browser extension at first, but after you go through it a couple of times, there is no trouble. I probably shouldn't have struggled but may have been nervous at that point. As it is now, we're able to navigate and get what we need from it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I was not terribly alarmed with the pricing, and am pleased with the fact that a home license is included with each business license.

I think that the price of LastPass is a fair value, considering its ability to ensure that our employees' credentials remain secure. We're going to try and buy things as inexpensively as we possibly can, but I don't know that I was terribly put off or surprised at the fees being charged. We do have other products that I've looked at and thought that there's no way that the product is worth that. In the case of LastPass, however, we aren't disappointed with the cost.

They had told us that they were going to change the program a little bit, such that it would include a home user license with each business license. For me and the people at my company, that was very attractive.

Having LastPass at home seems like an advantage from a selfish standpoint, although it is better than that because the habits that you get into at home will carry over to the business. It reinforces the use of LastPass at work if people are using it at home. From a company standpoint, it makes us more secure, but from a practical standpoint, it's going to make the home user also more secure. It's a win-win.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at a few products that were industry-specific, such as SCADA software, although these were not necessarily security products.

There was a security product that we reviewed, based on Active Directory, but for what it gave us, it was not a good value.

What other advice do I have?

LastPass gives us the ability to provide granular role permissions, although it isn't particularly important to do so in our environment. We definitely don't want everybody to have wide-open access to everything, so we do have a tiered structure in place, as far as access is concerned.

At this point, we have not integrated LastPass with other applications. We use it for websites but not for applications per see. There are some that we would like to experiment with but we haven't done it yet.

My advice to anybody who is looking to implement LastPass is that there are a lot of password vault environments on the market, so you should do your research and read the reviews. That said, this is a premium product that is easy to implement and easy to use. It doesn't seem to be hard on resources and I believe that the value is there, in terms of cost versus performance.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Easy to use and stable, but needs better user interface and more information about scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to use."
  • "We use it for keeping track of the passwords and ensuring that we have a good level of password complexity."
  • "Its user interface should be better, and there should probably be more information about scalability."
  • "Its user interface should be better, and there should probably be more information about scalability."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for keeping track of the passwords and ensuring that we have a good level of password complexity.

What is most valuable?

It is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

Its user interface should be better, and there should probably be more information about scalability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I haven't had any timeouts or anything like that, so I would say it is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't know about its scalability. This is a point that I'm trying to figure out.

We have about 15 users who are evaluating it. Its usage will depend on the outcome.

How are customer service and technical support?

I haven't tried their technical support.

What other advice do I have?

From what I've seen, I would recommend this solution to others depending on their needs.

I would rate LastPass Enterprise a seven out of ten.

Easy management through pairing applications and user permissions
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature for me is being able to pair applications and user permissions."
  • "The most valuable feature for me is being able to pair applications and user permissions."
  • "LastPass has a problem syncing the passwords to all of the users."
  • "LastPass has a problem syncing the passwords to all of the users."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution is to manage the access control for our users.

We have twelve hundred users and two thousand applications and I manage all access to the applications.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature for me is being able to pair applications and user permissions.

What needs improvement?

LastPass has a problem syncing the passwords to all of the users. This is our biggest problem and we are currently looking for another solution because of this.

When you make changes, and you want the user to immediately have these changes, that is not the case with LastPass. The changes are not immediate.

Technical support should be quicker and more helpful.

With the next release of this solution, I would like to see reports. As an example, It would be helpful to know how many users have access to which applications.

At this time, I cannot evaluate if an account has been used or not, or what accounts have been used in the last month or within the last year.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable.

We have twelve hundred users.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is just okay, medium, I would say. I have had a lot of contact with them and they know that I am an experienced user, so I normally only get a manual page back.

I am not always satisfied with their solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I didn't use another solution.

What other advice do I have?

I am satisfied with all aspects of LastPass expect that the changes are not immediately synced to the users.

If you are over one thousand employees, I am not sure if you should use LastPass.

If you have less then I would recommend this solution.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Enables us to secure, store and easily retrieve passwords
Pros and Cons
  • "It's improved security; we don't have to worry about people storing password loosely and secure them."
  • "The most valuable feature is the ability to secure, store and easily retrieve passwords."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for password security.

How has it helped my organization?

It's improved security; we don't have to worry about people storing password loosely and securing them.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ability to secure, store and easily retrieve passwords.

    What needs improvement?

I'm pretty happy with it, and it just needs to keep up with the current security threats. I think it does that reasonably well.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's very stable; we've had no issues. We had other products before that were very unstable, and we lost some password information.

How are customer service and technical support?

    Tech support is excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have password security throughout the organization. A small group of people used infected apps. Everyone was using it differently. Some people weren't using anything to store and secure their data, which is very vulnerable. We used a variety of things, Symantec was one of the big ones that people use as far as a single use application on iPhones to better store passwords.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. It was pretty much "plug and play," easy to pick up. I think we only had one or two training sessions for our staff.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    Licensing costs are annual.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We were looking at Symantec. We are a Symantec client, that's why we are looking at them, but we felt LastPass offered more significant value for the money.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate LastPass either an eight or a nine because it's beneficial for us and it checked all the security audit boxes.

We are talking about substantial organizations here. If you're tiny, then you can get away with a more straightforward setup.

Keeps our enterprise more private and secure, but lacks customization in the console
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature is the liberty of keeping encrypted passwords and elevated information in a sealed vault."
    • "The most valuable feature is the liberty of keeping encrypted passwords and elevated information in a sealed vault."
    • "I would like to be able to reduce the log out time of the session."
    • "The customization features lack in the console, such as giving the users a little bit more customization as far as what kind of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) they want to set up."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for this solution is to store the encrypted credentials, passwords, and login information for our administrative accounts. We have a lot of elevated accounts in our organization, and we needed a way to consolidate all of our user's passwords, encryption keys, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

It's kept our enterprise, specifically our internal organization, more private and secure. It keeps everything encrypted, including our user's passwords.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the liberty of keeping encrypted passwords and elevated information in a sealed vault.

    What needs improvement?

The customization features lack in the console, such as giving the users a little bit more customization as far as what kind of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) they want to set up.

I would like to be able to reduce the log out time of the session. Maybe a way to customize when the user session logs them out automatically, so it can be set to thirty or ninety seconds before it logs out.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

When you log in to access the credentials, the environment in LastPass seems to be stable enough for us to retrieve those passwords and for others to do their work on a daily basis.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As our users grow in the company, we have the ability to scale with LastPass.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have not used their technical support.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very straightforward, and there were no complaints. It was easy to use right out of the box.

    What about the implementation team?

We used a consultant for the deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The subscription model is rated at a fair price.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this product to a colleague or a coworker, either within the company or at a different company. This is based on how easy it is to use, and that the subscription is a fair price.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

YubiKey ensures that if my LastPass password is compromised, nobody has access to my password vault
    Pros and Cons
    • "The initial setup for this process is straightforward and extremely easy. It just works."
    • "The LastPass solution is the best one that I have tried."
    • "Right now we have two products; there is the password manager and there is the authenticator app. Ideally, these should be fully integrated and support better handling of two-factor authentication or any other authenticator data."
    • "The current version has problems when it comes to their "security challenge", which is a feature that automatically changes unsafe passwords for you."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case is related to the sharing of passwords with other members of the team. This includes the secure notes feature for very sensitive encryption information, as well as passwords for logging in.

How has it helped my organization?

This product has given us the ability to share passwords, which allows for redundancy in a secure, trusted environment. By redundancy, I am referring to the ability for different people to securely access sensitive information.

It is our sole, authorized password manager.

    What is most valuable?

I found the most valuable feature the support of the YubiKey. The capability of utilizing this hardware key was what led me to choose this product over anything else. This ensures that even if my LastPass password is compromised, nobody has access to my password vault. This gives me peace of mind.

    What needs improvement?

The current version has problems when it comes to their "security challenge", which is a feature that automatically changes unsafe passwords for you. My advice, for the present, is to do it yourself. Unfortunately, leaving it to the responsibility of the software tends to hang, and even crash on some web sites.

Specifically, if you already have two-factor authentication enabled on that website then it is a nightmare. Certainly, you should have two-factor authentication, so this needs to be fixed. I would estimate that it works half of the time.

In terms of additional features, I would like to see an improvement in the LastPass Authenticator. There has to be a more transparent way to retrieve the second-factor authentication key.

The first time you do it you get a QR code, and I know that you can recover and reinstall it because LastPass does a backup. However, if you need it install it on another device such as a colleague's phone, then you need to have that device physically with you at the time. Otherwise, you need to cancel the setup and use both phones to actually scan the QR code. There is no other way to retrieve the secret key.

I believe that there are other solutions that handle this, but I work around it by putting that key into a LastPass secure note. It is a cumbersome way to do it, so I would like to see this improved.

Visually speaking, I would like to see a better ordering of the passwords. I understand that there is a search function, but there are no tabs to easily classify them. Similarly, you cannot customize the layout to better find what you are looking for. From the user's perspective, when you have a lot of passwords, the search feature works but I would like it to be more customizable.

For how long have I used the solution?

    One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of this product is better than all of the other ones that I have tried.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The future scalability for this product is good, but it doesn't feel like a modern, single sign-on as it should. Right now we have two products; there is the password manager and there is the authenticator app. Ideally, these should be fully integrated and support better handling of two-factor authentication or any other authenticator data.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have had no need to contact their technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to LastPass we used the KeePass Password Safe, which came bundled with our antivirus security solution. We switched because of the security key. I wanted that feature more than the two-factor authentication because it is an extremely strong, physical device that is used to lock down LastPass.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for this process is straightforward and extremely easy. It just works. As an example, the importing of passwords from Google Chrome works very well.

    What about the implementation team?

We took care of the deployment and installation ourselves. It was done physically at each machine; so, for example, on each person's laptop. We currently have five people using this solution, and a single person can maintain it. We have a second person with master access for the sake of redundancy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of pricing, my feeling is that they are all roughly the same. LastPass is in line with its competitors, plus or minute a dollar or two per month.

Personally, I was quite insensitive with respect to pricing. I was more concerned with the reputation of the company and the friendliness of the interface, or the way the product has been designed.

We have an annual subscription that we access and update directly on their website.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated several password managers including Norton Password Manager, KeePass Password Safe, Dashlane, and OneLogin. The LastPass solution is the best one that I have tried.

The OneLogin solution comes to mind, as it has been hacked in the past. Because we cannot review or audit their code, we need to trust that they will make changes and update their product accordingly. There is always a worry, however, that something could go wrong. I am most comfortable with LastPass because of the support for the hardware security key.

Dashlane is a good solution, but I do not like the way it looks.

What other advice do I have?

I have known LastPass for so long that it feels natural. That said, I have some advice with respect to using it.

First, it has to be secured with a security key. Next, ensure that you master the password sharing features. Finally, I suggest disabling the form fields because it tends to over-interpret what it should be doing. I prefer to have more control than that.

The secure notes feature is very important, so be sure to familiarize yourself with it.

I would rate this product eight and a half out of ten.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
