Provides peace of mind and expands well but needs a better interface
Pros and Cons
  • "We're now certain business-critical mail is perfectly protected in multiple ways."
  • "The interface isn't the best. How everything works on the back end is confusing."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for disaster recovery. We are on Office 365 as well, and it is a bit redundant.

How has it helped my organization?

Right now, the solution provides us with peace of mind. If something were to happen, we know we can recover what we need. We haven't had to use it yet.

What is most valuable?

The peace of mind provided is great. We're now certain business-critical mail is perfectly protected in multiple ways. Our whole goal is to protect everything that is mission-critical in more ways than one. It helps ensure mailbox continuity.

What needs improvement?

Overall, just across all the Mimecast pieces that we use, it's somewhat of a mess when you want to figure out where you need to go to make a change. The interface isn't the best. How everything works on the back end is confusing.

There are no missing features to speak of.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution since June of 2018. I've used it for almost five years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've had some problems with stability. I'd rate the overall stability seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is okay. I'd rate the ability to extend the solution seven out of ten.

I'm not sure if we have any plans at this time to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

Once the implementation was complete, technical support began to peter off and was lacking.

How was the initial setup?

The initial implementation was rushed. It was more complex than it needed to be due to the fact that it got rushed into a very small timeline. Once we had set it up, support was a little bit lacking after that.

What was our ROI?

ROI is hard to determine. Since we've never had to perform a recovery, we never really use it, and yet it is a product we need to have.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't deal with the pricing or licensing aspects of the product I can't speak to how much it costs.

What other advice do I have?

It's a hosted solution. I'm not sure which version of the solution Im on at this time.

I would advise others to research all the options out there and see what the best fit is. We started this mailbox continuity project before we moved to Office 365. And now that we've moved to Office 365, we kind of don't need this piece of technology in the same way that we used to need it when we had an on-prem exchange. Therefore, make sure that you actually need it and then research to find the best options.

Overall, I would rate the solution seven out of ten.

Reliable, reasonably priced, and offers helpful support
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution offers good technical support."
  • "The solution is stable and reliable; there are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze."
  • "The installation is not so straightforward."
  • "The installation is not so straightforward."

What is most valuable?

It's very stable.

We find the product to be scalable.

The solution offers good technical support.

The price is reasonable.

What needs improvement?

The installation is not so straightforward. In comparison, for example, Proofpoint or Defender offer easier installations when you integrate with Active Directory.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using the solution five years ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can scale the solution as needed.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. We are happy with the level of support on offer.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've used Defender, Proofpoint, and Mimecast.

Some companies are using Defender, some companies are using Proofpoint, and some are using Mimecast.

In my company, we are using Defender.

Mimecast and Microsoft Office 365 is better than Proofpoint for the mail filter rules only. The mail filter rules in Proofpoint are not the best.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is not straightforward to set up. The integration can be a bit harder than when compared to other solutions. That said, it's not so hard it's impossible.

I'd rate the initial setup a four out of five in terms of complexity.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are three types of licenses, however, I don't know the exact pricing or differences. My understanding is that it is not overly expensive, as my clients have used it for years and they would have left if it was costly.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a freelancer and working support for some companies who are using Mimecast and Proofpoint. Sometimes I create it as a subscription for them, and I configure everything from the scratch, and sometimes, I take it already configured and just maintain it and tune the settings in.

I'd advise those implementing the solution to read the documentation carefully before beginning.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. I'd rate them higher, however, they are difficult to set up with Active Directory.

Can observe multiple information sensors and monitors outbound traffic
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup is easy."
  • "Mimecast need to ensure that the body text format is correctly handled and that images are properly embedded in the body text."

What is our primary use case?

We have a client using the Mimecast tool. We observe multiple information sensors, such as default information, mismatched data, unknown IPs, and various user activities.

They use Mimecast to monitor outbound traffic, including impersonation and mismatched data. All these activities are managed within Mimecast. Companies use Mimecast to enhance network security within their budget. For outbound communication, emails go to Mimecast, where they are scanned and delivered to the user.

What is most valuable?

We are monitoring emails that come from outside the organization. Some impersonation policies are in place, and we are tracking five different types of impersonation policies. These policies include external IP addresses, external users, reply-to mismatches, default inbound attachments, and VIP impersonation cases.

What needs improvement?

Mimecast need to ensure that the body text format is correctly handled and that images are properly embedded in the body text. Additionally, Mimecast should ensure that the system can accommodate multiple users and effectively send information to them.

For how long have I used the solution?

We are using V7.5.0 of the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

One person is using this solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy.

What other advice do I have?

I have learned various aspects related to the topic. I will monitor all types of logs, including those from Mimecast, which provides information about users’ contacts, histories, and account numbers. Although multiple policies are in place, we are currently monitoring just five specific types.

Mimecast is useful. According to the premises, Mimecast is important, but the choice of tools often depends on each company’s requirements and budget. While Mimecast is a highly effective console for email protection, companies select tools based on their own budgets and needs.

It is easy for a beginner to learn. If a person understands impersonation policies and how to apply them, the process becomes straightforward. However, if someone is unfamiliar with these policies and their monitoring, it can be challenging. However, once a person is knowledgeable about impersonation policies, the process becomes much easier.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

A stable solution that can be used for email security, but it should include more AI features
Pros and Cons
  • "Email security is the most valuable feature of the solution."
  • "The solution should include more AI features instead of Mimecast's more general static configuration tooling."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for email security.

What is most valuable?

Email security is the most valuable feature of the solution.

What needs improvement?

The solution should include more AI features instead of Mimecast's more general static configuration tooling.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten for stability.

What about the implementation team?

The solution was deployed by a vendor for us.

What other advice do I have?

Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection is a well-known solution that was recommended to us by a third party.

I wouldn't say Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection is the best tool out there, but it's okay. I would advise potential users to try out its alternatives as well.

Overall, I rate the solution a six or seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

Effective real-time alerts, high availability, but priced high
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is real-time alerts."
  • "The price of the solution is expensive. It can improve by reducing the price."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Mimecast Mailbox Continuity for the security of email from threats, such as spam, fishing, and viruses.

We are currently doing a POC with the solution.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is real-time alerts.

What needs improvement?

The price of the solution is expensive. It can improve by reducing the price.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Mimecast Mailbox Continuity for approximately three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is highly stable.

I rate the scalability of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

We have approximately 400 users using this solution and we use it often.

I rate the scalability of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity a ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I have not used the support from the vendor. However, the implementation team is helpful.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were previously using Sophos before switching to Office 365 and then to Mimecast Mailbox Continuity. We switch because before the email comes to our mailboxes it gets scanned by Mimecast Mailbox Continuity.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is simple. Our deployment took one week to complete after a few weeks of planning.

I rate the initial setup of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity a ten out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation of the solution in-house with one person.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is expensive.

I rate the price of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Darktrace and they take a copy of the email and check it and then a report is made with the information. However, we preferred Mimecast Mailbox Continuity.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Mimecast Mailbox Continuity a six out of ten. If the solution is deployed on the domain rather than the mailboxes it can be less expensive. We pay annually and there is no hidden cost.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

A great solution for monitoring emails with a valuable URL protection feature
Pros and Cons
  • "It has all the features required for distribution, such as the ability to mail."
  • "Mimecast Mailbox Community is an email gateway required for every organization, regardless of size."
  • "The solution is expensive in comparison to similar solutions."
  • "The differentiation between bulk spam mail and campaign-related mail could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case for the solution is for monitoring emails. It also flags and highlights suspicious and new emails. Overall, it protects from malicious emails within or outside of organizations. Mimecast Mailbox Community is an email gateway required for every organization, regardless of size.

What is most valuable?

The URL protection feature is valuable because it communicates all attachment-related activity and provides access to view the content of the message directly. Additionally, it can directly provide you with the content of emails if you have been granted access.

What needs improvement?

The differentiation between bulk spam mail and campaign-related mail could be improved. Campaign-related activities are challenging to find in Mimecast Mailbox Continuity. For example, in an organization with a hundred people working for you, there will be approximately 100 email IDs. As a sender, if I want to spoof some people in the organization and hack their credentials, I need to identify targets for the phishing campaign. So I could use an email address to spoof a Microsoft page or create a fake page impersonating Microsoft to harvest credentials. By sending a hundred people a hundred emails with the same subject and same sender, with the same URL, this will easily be detected. So the second option is to spoof the sender every time by sending a hundred people a hundred URLs with similar subjects. In the second scenario, Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is not very good at detecting it.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for approximately five months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable because it works on cloud and accepts over a thousand emails daily, so the storage must be higher than other solutions.

How are customer service and support?

I rate the customer service and support team a ten out of ten. We have only had to contact them once, and they were quick to resolve our issue.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy compared to other environment configurations because you will have to install the same information into an Exchange Server. However, once it is integrated, it's easy to configure.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is expensive in comparison to similar solutions.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten. My advice to users considering this tool is to explore everything. It has all the features required for distribution, such as the ability to mail. Explore every option available and check for tags.

Great reporting , good visibility, and feature-rich
Pros and Cons
  • "What I like about the integration is that it is directly into Microsoft 365, users can use their Microsoft 365 credentials to log into the portal and access their mail."
  • "I have always found Mimecast to be very responsive; for example, if we see something come through, they address it and it helps to sort out the issues."
  • "While it's quick and easy, the initial setup could be more user-friendly."
  • "While it's quick and easy, the initial setup could be more user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We use Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection for email security.

What is most valuable?

What I like about the integration is that it is directly into Microsoft 365, users can use their Microsoft 365 credentials to log into the portal and access their mail.

It does have integrations, and there is an app that can be added to Outlook to allow them to do what they need to do.

While some of the setups are probably not as user-friendly as some of the other platforms, there is a lot of customization that you can do to the platform to help you pull up a lot of stuff that shouldn't be going into users' mailboxes.

I believe the world is going through a crazy period right now, and everyone is attempting to penetrate different systems as quickly as possible and change their ways of doing things.

I have always found Mimecast to be very responsive; for example, if we see something come through, they address it and it helps to sort out the issues. Overall, I'm pleased with them. I think I just look at what's out there every year during renewal time to see if we're still on the best platform or if we should consider migrating to something else.

It has great reporting, and we can see what's going on.

I am pleased with the features we have at the moment and everything it does; it's only one piece of the puzzle for our environment, but I'm pleased with how it detects things and some of the functionality that we have had to set up due to the complexity of our business and security. I'm pleased with everything. I don't have anything specific in mind that I'd be looking for.

What needs improvement?

While it's quick and easy, the initial setup could be more user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection for two or three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I did not have any issues with the stability of Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection.

Maybe once in the last year, but it was a short period of time. Everything comes through. The capabilities during the impersonation protection, integrating with some of our various partners, and so on so that we can work seamlessly with them as well. Overall, I found it very easy to work with them.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. I haven't had any problems with technical support.

Obviously, there is a paid add-on depending on the level of support you require, but they are extremely responsive. Whenever I call in, they usually resolve my issue right away, we'll go over it and give me a callback. It's not like I'm waiting weeks or months for a response. So far, so good.

How was the initial setup?

To be honest, the initial setup was very quick and easy. I had a quick turnaround because I was transitioning away from another company we were using called AppRiver and their SecureTide product, which was okay but not my favorite. I didn't like the integrations and other procedures we had to go through, and the Mimecast product seemed to fit better in comparison.

What other advice do I have?

There is a lot of functionality that we haven't fully taken advantage of.

I would say, make sure you are selecting a product that best fits your business.

Some things will be added as you go through the implementation process. Since our implementation, items have been added, and with some of the functionality that they have, we simply don't have the time to assess and determine what we require.

I would recommend reviewing everything that comes with your product license and ensuring that it is covered when you go through the implementation process.

I would rate Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, and protects emails from threats, including spam
Pros and Cons
  • "It's good, it keeps the spam out."
  • "It's good, it keeps the spam out, and it does a really good job at not allowing threats through."
  • "The filtering needs more flexibility."
  • "This solution can be frustrating. It blocks many things that should be going through."

What is our primary use case?

I am an investment research analyst. We use this solution for spam and as our security filter.

What is most valuable?

It's good, it keeps the spam out.

It does a really good job at not allowing threats through.

What needs improvement?

This solution can be frustrating. It blocks many things that should be going through. I have to authorize permission, which seems to be a frequent occurrence. It may be that we have set our protection too high but we work in a regulated industry.

When you click to change permissions on something, it always launches a browser instance to tell me that I have taken an action. I have to close that out and go on to the next one, and when I asign permission another item, again it opens up a browser again to notify me that I have taken action. I don't know why it does that or why it is necessary.

The filtering needs more flexibility.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Mimecast for four or five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not had any issues with the stability of Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection. We have not experienced any glitches or bugs.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not contacted technical support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not familiar with the pricing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have researched Magic Software. I wanted a better understanding of the differences in the offerings. I allocated capital, I am trying to see if Magic is a good holding for our small-cap portfolio.

It is abstract but I don't do any application development.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
