SonicWall NSv has positively impacted my organization by allowing us to scale growth without having to constantly reinvent our processes.
SonicWall NSv has helped us scale growth and avoid reinventing processes by providing us with latency visibility, showing us how many people we can add and how we can scale through that capacity.
I do not have anything that comes to mind regarding how SonicWall NSv can be improved.
I have been using SonicWall NSv for probably the last six months to a year, and I have used similar solutions in different companies throughout my career.
SonicWall NSv is stable.
SonicWall NSv's scalability is scalable and very easy.
The customer support for SonicWall NSv is good.
Positive
We switched between a couple of products before SonicWall NSv, and I was always more satisfied with SonicWall NSv.
I evaluated other options before choosing SonicWall NSv.
I would advise others looking into using SonicWall NSv to use it as it is helpful and helps businesses do what they need to do while giving them the protection that they need.
I would rate this product a 7 out of 10.
My main use case for SonicWall NSv is configuring SSL VPN accounts and setting up remote access for VPNs.
As a specific example of how I use SonicWall NSv for VPNs or remote access, I download NetExtender for the client, then go into SonicWall and set up a user account using the WAN address for the login. I set up a username and password, and document the domain, configuring that on their NetExtender on the client side and logging them into SonicWall so they have access to the company shared drives.
One of the best features SonicWall NSv offers is the LDAP feature, where you can use the Active Directory account to use the NetExtender client-side login that integrates with Active Directory.
The LDAP integration with Active Directory has made my workflow much more efficient and easier to configure the VPNs, allowing me to set up for the user and log them into SonicWall.
SonicWall NSv has positively impacted my organization by allowing our customers to access data 24 hours, seven days a week, making it a wonderful feature for business continuity for our customers.
Since implementing SonicWall NSv, I have noticed increased productivity, allowing users to access secure data in the network through a VPN, a virtual private tunnel, enabling them to work from home.
SonicWall NSv can be improved by maintaining its security with up-to-date patches and ensuring it has the latest updates to secure the device.
I have been using SonicWall NSv for five years.
SonicWall NSv is very stable.
Its scalability is excellent, and there is no downtime for the customer when they are accessing their remote data, allowing them access to confidential data within the company using the SSL VPN.
Customer support is excellent, and every time I have had to call with any issues, they have been resolved right away.
Positive
I have always used SonicWall, so I did not previously use a different solution before SonicWall NSv.
I use my.sonicwall.com to license all the devices, and then I deploy the devices on-premises.
I have seen a return on investment with SonicWall NSv as it allows customers to constantly have access to their secure data, making it very efficient for our customers.
I did not evaluate other options before choosing SonicWall NSv, as it was the product of choice when I joined the company.
My advice for others looking into using SonicWall NSv is to make sure the firmware is always up to date on the device so that there is no downtime.
SonicWall NSv is a secure product, and the business continuity it provides saves money for the customer. I gave this product a rating of 10 out of 10.
My main use case for SonicWall NSv was with the other models of the next-generation firewall of SonicWall. SonicWall NSv was primarily used for intrusion prevention and security, with security being my best aim.
SonicWall NSv has positively impacted my organization by regenerating the network infrastructure, making it more efficient and useful for all of the company's site-to-site VPNs. I had an SD-WAN project that I couldn't complete previously.
SonicWall NSv made my network infrastructure more efficient, especially focusing on downtime as my red line. I used it specifically for that purpose, and there was no downtime while I was using it.
The best features SonicWall NSv offers in my experience include secure remote access and cloud secure connect. These features help me in my day-to-day work and my organization overall because I can monitor and check on things.
SonicWall NSv stands out to me as user-friendly, and the zero-day vulnerabilities protection is more efficient than other solutions. The performance and firewall performance are very good, with throughput values that are more efficient, and it is a manageable firewall.
SonicWall NSv may need improvement in integrating with access points more. The interface of SonicWall NSv is useful and monitoring is useful, but I think support and global support need to be improved.
I used SonicWall NSv deeply approximately four or five years ago, but I am not currently using it. However, I have experience with that firewall.
SonicWall NSv appears to be stable.
SonicWall NSv's scalability is exactly as expected.
The customer support for SonicWall NSv is not very reachable or speedy, but we can solve issues. I would rate the customer support of SonicWall NSv seven out of ten.
Positive
I used WatchGuard before SonicWall NSv because the security and monitoring is more efficient with SonicWall NSv.
I have not seen a return on investment with SonicWall NSv yet.
My experience with SonicWall NSv's pricing, setup cost, and licensing reveals that the first buying cost is cheap, but the licensing cost is expensive.
I can try Sophos and Fortinet regarding my main use case with SonicWall NSv, and I can say that it compares well to other solutions I tried. I evaluated other options before choosing SonicWall NSv, specifically Sophos, but I chose SonicWall NSv because Sophos is not a global product.
SonicWall NSv helped me achieve better security because the next-generation firewall of SonicWall is more efficient for security, VPN connections, site-to-site or peer-to-peer connections. The MAC filtering is better, and the filtering of the addresses is more efficient than before I used other solutions. If you need security and more utility for VPN, you can use SonicWall NSv. I would rate this solution nine out of ten overall.
The solution is predominantly for gateway-level protection. There are multiple filters now. In the past, these devices were used for extensive filtering regarding phishing, security, and data protection. Back then, there were numerous challenges. I headed IT operations for a B2B marketplace company, where data was the lifeline. We actively monitored logs to detect threats. Things have improved significantly as much protection now happens from the cloud.
Predominantly, we utilized two or three features. One significant aspect was the allocation of bandwidth. Not every user had the same privileges, so high-end users required better bandwidth. We worked on infrastructure where bandwidth was an issue, necessitating allocation.
Additionally, SonicWall excelled in threat management, evident in how users handled it effectively.
The engine provided initially was quite heavy, creating a trade-off between software and hardware-based threat management. A component was installed on every device, consuming substantial memory. When the software was downloaded, optimal hardware utilization was lacking, making hardware upgrades inevitable. Issues like these were tied to the engine size. However, significant improvements and threading have made the solution more convenient, moving from a bulky application.
I have known SonicWall for approximately 14 years.
There were challenges with the coexistence of other applications, especially in a Microsoft environment. UTM devices, being closed boxes, posed management issues. Understanding and handling these devices onsite was limited, requiring external support.
With the transition to cloud, scalability became immediate. Earlier, on-prem setups had scalability constraints due to hardware and bandwidth bottlenecks. Nonetheless, the product is robust, eliminating major scalability concerns.
I have been fortunate to work with a solution specialist company that consistently provided tech support. They ensured smooth operation without significant issues.
Positive
We previously utilized Microsoft solutions.
Two network engineers from my IT team handled the initial setup.
We considered it similar to insurance. Failures allowed us to understand the safety net it provided. Investment was challenging but strategic, given its advantages like 30% depreciation in the Indian ecosystem by the third year. Cloud enhancements have amplified the value for money.
For mid-sized to large organizations, SonicWall is the right fit. However, smaller organizations may not find it suitable.
I would rate the overall product a nine out of ten.
We use the solution as a firewall for our offices.
The product helps improve our security. We use SonicWall NSv on Azure. It’s a basic firewall. It's similar to all the other firewalls. The tool provides effective threat prevention. It simplifies our security operations. There is no direct connectivity to the VMs. We have everything on the host machine. There, we have the internal switches. So, the network layer has more security.
We face some challenges when we upgrade the solution. If I use NSv 400, I can't upgrade to the next generation. We cannot upgrade the VM to the next generation. We have to rebuild a new VM and copy the configurations. We cannot upgrade straightaway. The solution must allow us to upgrade the same machine to a newer version without many changes.
I have been using the solution for more than ten years.
Since we have enabled the product in a fresh environment, there is no downtime.
The product’s scalability is good. We can upgrade easily.
The technical support team is very good. We can contact the team by phone or email.
Positive
The initial deployment is straightforward. We get the image and deploy it in Azure. The configuration takes a day.
The tool is moderately priced. We need to purchase an additional license for NSM. We can manage all the firewalls through NSM. Otherwise, we would have to connect each location manually to manage the devices. With NSM, we can connect and manage all the firewalls globally. We can push the policies across all the firewalls in one go.
We use SonicWall’s Content Filtering, Gateway, and IPS security tools. Most solutions have similar features. When we deployed the tool in our organization, it had all the technical functionality we needed. It is still relevant and fits our requirements. Currently, we are on Azure. Before, we had an on-premises setup. We were using VMware for our on-premises setup. Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.
I have some small and medium businesses. I do not use this for enterprise.
I have a variety of customers, such as NSv, non-financial banking enterprises, banking, small bank credit unions, and all those types of businesses. My customer base is different, so I cannot really specify which feature is best. It depends upon the customer. For example, for my small NFB banking services, when they are expanding their branches, I could incorporate a little bit easier.
The price is a significant factor.
Mostly in India, the customer service has many hurdles to get real support. If I want to talk to a customer executive, they ask many trivial questions. Even if I explain that I am asking for a Dell partner, they still ask specific questions, and they will explain many unnecessary questions.
I have used the solution since it was acquired after it was acquired by Dell.
Mostly, I deal with this solution. I do not directly deal with SonicWall. The space is really low, maybe less than 10%.
Out of ten, I would rate the solution at an eight.
We installed an on-premises firewall and connected it to the circuit. From the circuit, we give the LAN IP so that all users will be connected with the LAN IP, and everybody will be restricted.
We've given connectivity for work-from-home users. Basic engineers can also easily configure the solution. The solution has no additional charges and no restrictions on the number of users.
SonicWall NSV's SSL VPN could increase its number of users to 100-plus users. I have still not checked if SonicWall NSV will support SSL VPN for 100-plus users.
I’ve been using SonicWall NSV for two years.
SonicWall NSV's stability is good, and we haven't faced any issues. The 100-plus users working on the site are secured.
The solution’s customer support is good.
Positive
SonicWall NSV's initial setup and deployment are pretty straightforward.
The solution's deployment took one hour.
The solution's price is around INR 50,000-60,000. SonicWall NSV is not very costly.
I rate SonicWall NSV a five out of ten for pricing.
SonicWall NSV is a good solution on-premise, with no additional charges. We have load balancing in the SonicWall NSV.
Different solutions are coming into the market. It will be good if operations happen offline since there won't be any downtime, and it will help the business run continuously. When people start working from home, and the number of users increases, we can go with the cloud firewall, which gives double security.
Overall, I rate SonicWall NSV a ten out of ten.
We are clients for the solution. SonicWall is used for creating VPN connections, particularly for side-to-side VPN configurations. Additionally, we employ SonicWall to block addresses and function as a firewall.
One of the standout features of SonicWall is its simplicity in creating and managing rules. The ease of generating reports, and overall, it is a reliable solution that works.
An area that could be improved is the export and import settings functionality. When changing or adding equipment, one has to recreate all the rules, as the import and export system could be more efficient. The pricing of the solution for Brazil could be improved.
I have been using the solution for over eight years.
The solution is stable.
The initial setup was straightforward. The deployment was done over a weekend.
Regarding the installation process, we collaborated with a trusted partner, a reputable company in our region. They proved to be an excellent partner for implementing the solution. Our experience involved specifying our requirements. They efficiently handled the more complex aspects of the installation.
The solution's pricing is good for the technology it offers. However, it’s relatively high for Brazil. This pricing structure may be more competitive in other regions since it’s in US dollars.
I recommend thorough planning before deploying the solution. This involves creating a detailed implementation plan, identifying and documenting all necessary rules, and understanding the ports that must be open. Due to the specificity of rules in SonicWall, meticulous planning is crucial. It is advisable to maintain a notebook to avoid creating confusion or errors during the deployment process. Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
