A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

User-friendly CLI and efficient dashboard streamline operations with robust security features
I find Palo Alto Networks VM-Series easy to deploy, and none of my customers have had significant complaints. My customers have high certifications provided by Palo Alto Networks. The friendly dashboard and the ability to easily command and use the CLI make Palo Alto Networks VM-Series a better product. It offers robust solutions, making it valuable to my customers.

Helps small businesses expand branches more easily
The price is a significant factor. Mostly in India, the customer service has many hurdles to get real support. If I want to talk to a customer executive, they ask many trivial questions. Even if I explain that I am asking for a Dell partner, they still ask specific questions, and they will explain many unnecessary questions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup is very straightforward and easy, with wizards helping to configure the device efficiently."
"I would rate FortiGate Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) as a solution a 10 out of 10."
"FortiGate is a rapidly growing vendor with a wide range of ready-to-use products. Their delivery time is remarkably quick, usually between two to four weeks."
"There are great templates, so you don't have to customize them if you don't want to. You do have the option to custom create some folders and some reports, however, with what is there, you don't really need to go through extra effort, as they already give you a lot of predefined views of reports and so forth."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall has a stateless balance proposition"
"It is easy to install. There is not much complexity involved."
"The solution is stable."
"I have found Fortinet FortiGate to be scalable."
"Centralized management is valuable because it allows us to configure settings in one location and apply them across all three locations."
"In Palo Alto the most important feature is the App-ID."
"The most effective features for threat prevention include the threat prevention signature level, the application filter capability, and the visibility provided by the firewalls."
"I recommend going with the VM series, as it integrates advanced technological standards on a single platform and supports Kubernetes and Docker, which other vendors often don't offer."
"It has a good performance which helps you with the stability of your virtual environment."
"It is an easy-to-scale product."
"We can monitor the traffic manually and detect threats. Additionally, we can block different IP addresses and URLs."
"The solution enables organizations to enforce policies."
"SonicWall NSV is easy to use, and you can use it to manage the logs easily."
"For my small NFB banking services, when they are expanding their branches, I could incorporate a little bit easier."
"One of the standout features of SonicWall is its simplicity in creating and managing rules."
"Out of ten, I would rate the solution at an eight."
"The product helps improve our security."
"SonicWall excelled in threat management, evident in how users handled it effectively."
"The solution has no additional charges and no restrictions on the number of users."
"We purchased the AGSS Bundle (Advanced Gateway Security Suite) for the security services, such as antivirus, intrusion prevention system, and anti-spyware botnet GUI."

Cons

"Areas that have room for improvement in Fortinet FortiGate include support and GUI enhancement."
"There are problems with the custom reporting of the unique traffic. The data is there, but it is too difficult for us to extract."
"Some of the features in the graphical user interface do not work, which requires that we used the command-line-interface."
"Compared to some other products, the DLP is not at par for the moment."
"Their support's response time can be better. In the past six months, they took quite a long time to respond to the support tickets."
"The routing capability on the FortiGate devices has room for improvement."
"There are no areas that need improvement at this point in time."
"In terms of what could be improved, the SD-WAN is quite difficult, because if you install the new box, 15 is okay, but if you change from an old configuration, if there is already configuration and a policy when you change to SD-WAN, you must change the whole policy that you see in the interface."
"Enhancing the ease of accessing technical support would be useful."
"The user-friendliness of the UI could be improved."
"From time to time, they have released some content updates that have some issues, maybe twice a year."
"It'll help if Palo Alto Networks provided better documentation."
"The solution's licensing could be improved, and training should be included before installation."
"On the cloud side, they need to come up with more HA solutions to support the multi-region."
"Palo Alto Networks VM-Series is a complex product to work with."
"There are some delays that I have observed when my company communicates with Palo Alto's support engineers."
"SonicWall NSV's initial setup is complicated and requires good knowledge."
"We face some challenges when we upgrade the solution."
"There are limitations to bandwidth management."
"I would like to see the reporting opened up and have several more opportunities for automatic reports."
"The engine provided initially was quite heavy, creating a trade-off between software and hardware-based threat management."
"The price is a significant factor. Mostly in India, the customer service has many hurdles to get real support."
"Currently, we are getting challenges with user-wise reports and other reporting details. At present, they do not provide detailed reports compared to other products."
"SonicWall NSV's SSL VPN could increase its number of users to 100-plus users."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing of the solution is very competitive."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall is a very cheap solution."
"The licensing scheme of Fortinet is better than Cisco. It is more logical."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate could improve, it is expensive."
"Pricing is good. They offer a lot of things, the most important is the support. Every time you upgrade your license, you also get insurance for the equipment. If you have any problem with equipment, they send in new equipment."
"The price of the license and warranty can be better because it is very expensive."
"A year or two years back, its price was competitive and reasonable. That was one of the reasons that people easily switched to Fortinet. Over the last two years, the prices have increased drastically. However, the prices of others have also increased. An advantage is there from the price point but not as much as it was previously."
"On a scale of one being cheap and ten being expensive, I rate the tool's price as an eight."
"Palo Alto Networks VM-Series is an expensive product but the best one in the market."
"The box, if you do not want to buy the threat prevention license in the box, you can buy it only with the support license. It is for the support of the hardware. It works like a simple firewall. It integrates what it calls user IDs and application IDs. If you do not buy any other license, only the firewall, Palo Alto will also help you improve a lot of your security."
"There is a need to make payments toward a yearly subscription-based model in which you need to add modules that you want to use in your company."
"Palo Alto definitely needs to be more competitive compared to other products. The problem that I have faced is that the price of licensing is very high and not very competitive."
"When you have a client compare box against box, a lot of times Palo Alto is a bit more expensive, but its network firewalls have a very rich ratio."
"It is an expensive product."
"The licensing is pretty much like everyone else."
"The pricing was expensive but it was comparable to the competition."
"The solution's pricing is good for the technology it offers."
"The solution’s pricing is less compared to other products."
"The tool is moderately priced."
"SonicWall NSV is not very costly."
"We are currently using the trial version."
"Our initial purchase, which included a three-year term of support, was about $25,000 USD."
