A great solution for business analytics, cloud products, and consulting
Pros and Cons
  • "It's a pre-configured appliance that requires very little in terms of setting-up."
  • "It could use some more advanced analytics relating to structured and semi-structured data."

What is our primary use case?

We resell Teradata, but not in the cloud.

Currently, our experience with Teradata in the cloud is theoretical as we haven't started selling it to our customers yet; however, a few of our customers are interested in migrating to a cloud-based solution.

Our clients use Teradata to consolidate corporate data to provide reports. These reports are required every day — it's more like described analytics.

What is most valuable?

Our customers are very happy with the configuration. It's a pre-configured appliance that requires very little in terms of setting-up.

What needs improvement?

It could use some more advanced analytics relating to structured and semi-structured data. In other words, there should be a process that makes advanced analytics easier.

The integration capabilities could be improved.

They should improve their marketing to make it easier to sell to customers.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Teradata for roughly five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I don't recall any of our customers having a problem with Teradata. They have never mentioned any issues relating to bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are a few options that are very interesting related to the cloud. You can go into the same environment and add more nodes throughout it. As I mentioned, we don't have much experience with Teradata on the cloud, but I think it's the way of the future.

How are customer service and support?

Their technical support is great. On a scale from one to ten, I would give them a rating of ten.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy.

Deployment takes a couple of weeks.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend Teradata to other interested companies. It's really easy to use thanks to the simple configuration.

Overall, on a scale from one to ten, I would give Teradata a rating of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

What other advice do I have?

Have a long-term vision, the ROI will not come in the short-term.

Improves analytics and can be deployed anywhere
Pros and Cons
  • "Teradata can be deployed on-premise, on the cloud, or in a virtual machine, which means customers can move without having to create their architecture all over again."
  • "Teradata's pricing is quite high compared to Redshift, Synapse, or GCP alternatives."

What is our primary use case?

Primarily, Teradata is a traditional data warehouse, but we also encourage our customers to adapt to the logical data warehouse and data lab.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ability to be anywhere - Teradata can be deployed on-premise, on the cloud, or in a virtual machine, which means customers can move without having to create their architecture all over again.

What needs improvement?

Teradata's pricing is quite high compared to Redshift, Synapse, or GCP alternatives. In the next release, I would like Teradata to refine their Object Store to be more compatible with cloud environments.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Teradata since 2014.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Teradata's stability is very strong, and our customers feel their data is safe with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Teradata's scalability is good, it takes only the push of a button to scale up, and if that's not enough, you could scale with the cloud or a virtual machine.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward if you have some knowledge about the logic of the environment. However, for those without knowledge, there will be a learning curve to understand how to use the solution.

What was our ROI?

Our customers say that Teradata makes them faster, smarter, and capable of more sophisticated analytics.

What other advice do I have?

For anyone thinking of implementing Teradata, I would recommend preparing by understanding the technology and putting in the effort to keep it being adaptive to different and urgent requirements from your business. I would give Teradata a score of ten out of ten.

Processes larges data amounts, reliable, helpful online videos

  • "The most valuable feature of Teradata is the quick processing of large data."
  • "The solution could improve by having a cloud version or a cloud component. We have to use other solutions, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Snowflake for the cloud."

What is our primary use case?

I am using Teradata Vantage Express and I'm using Teradata Studio along with it.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Teradata is the quick processing of large data.

What needs improvement?

The solution could improve by having a cloud version or a cloud component. We have to use other solutions, such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Snowflake for the cloud.

I have been using Teradata for approximately one week.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

The initial setup was done with the free Teradata Express. I downloaded and installed it. The implementation process was not easy to do and there are many steps involved. Other data warehousing tools are plug-and-play. It is a three to four-step process.

We followed some useful YouTube videos.

I rate the initial setup of Teradata a five out of ten.

I am using the free version of Teradata.

High transaction processes, as well as the reporting system, need improvement
Pros and Cons
    • "We tried to use case Teradata for a data warehouse system, but we had some problems in relation to the Teradata system, CDC tools, and source databases. We were unable to transfer data from HPE Integrity mainframe to Teradata."
    • "There is a need to improve performance in high transaction processes, as well as the reporting system."

What is our primary use case?

We tried to use case Teradata for a data warehouse system, but we had some problems in relation to the Teradata system, CDC tools, and source databases. We were unable to transfer data from HPE Integrity mainframe to Teradata.

How has it helped my organization?

It didn't improve the way our organization functions.

    What is most valuable?

    None.

    What needs improvement?

There is a need to improve performance in high transaction processes, as well as the reporting system.

For how long have I used the solution?

    Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    No issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    No issues with scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

I would rate tech support at eight out of 10.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Yes, we already had SAP IQ and were using it. We didn’t switch. We tried but it failed.

    How was the initial setup?

    Very complex.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Teradata two out of 10. At first, support was very good, but during and after they ended their operation in Turkey it was very bad. We had some agreements and they gave us some promises but...

We bought it three years ago but we couldn't use it in production. We have SAP IQ data warehouse now and I don't have a major problem. I would recommend SAP IQ for data warehouse.

If you are going to buy Teradata, you have to make a very solid contract with them.

    5 years.

It is stable but it should be more cloud-friendly and scalability is poor
    Pros and Cons
    • "It is a stable program."
    • "An additional feature I would you like to see included in the next release, is that it needs to be more cloud-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

We are only consultants, so we don't use the program ourselves.

    What is most valuable?

Our customers are very impressed by Teradata's speed, because it's massively parallel processed. So you can get a great volume of data through quickly.

    What needs improvement?

What really needs to improve, is their general cloud services. That is their biggest downfall at the moment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Teradata is a really stable program.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Teradata is extremely poor, unfortunately.

How are customer service and technical support?

Because we are only consultants, we never use the technical support. Only our clients do.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I will rate Teradata a seven. An additional feature I would like to see included in the next release is that it needs to be more cloud-friendly. That's the one thing they're going to lose customers over, so that needs to improve. I know they're working on it, but they need to do it quicker.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises
