Tintri VMstore T7000 Reviews

We implemented Tintri VMstore on our environment for storage management, and we deployed all our VMs on Tintri. 

We were looking for a solution that was easy to manage and easy to implement. 

In the past, we faced a performance bottleneck with our storage, and we have had instances when NFS mount points got disconnected by themselves. 

Tintri has provided us with stability and faster speed. We were also looking for a solution that is compatible with our existing Hypervisor environment, and Tintri has fulfilled that requirement.

Tintri VMstore has superior performance. It provides us with up to 30% faster performance than our old storage solutions. 

The T7000 series of VMstore has the capability to forecast resource requirements and capacity. Tintri VMStore has a unique filesystem that can manage performance and help us to oversee workloads. 

We have been able to scale up to ten VM storages and 500 VMs through a single pane of glass. That is a big plus for using the Tintri solution. Tintri is easy to automate using Powershell and Rest API.

We have found better performance, predictive analysis, and ease of use, and it supports site-to-site replication. 

Tintri VMstore provides a single pane of glass to manage all your VMs and hypervisors; it is very easy to scale. 

Automation comes naturally in Tintri using simple PowerShell and REST API. 

The faster performance of Tintri has reduced latency across our network, storage, and VMs. We now have more visibility across our VMs which has enhanced our user experience and helped accelerate deployments.

Tintri has a feature called Tintri Global Center, which helps to monitor and control our infrastructure with a single click. This works fine if you want to look at existing data, however, if you want to monitor dynamically with a granularity of seconds that it requires a connection back to Tintri central, which is an extra step and not so convenient to use. Also, we have noticed that while Tintri has improved our infrastructure performance by 30%, the performance drops significantly if we exceed SSD capacity.

Following additional features, we would like to see in the new release:

1. The fixing of the performance issue when we exceed SSD capacity.

2. Documentation support in major languages besides English (as we have teams spread out across multiple countries).

3. Having a one-click GUI to create snapshots of the storage.

4. Detailed reporting is missing in the current version. We would like to see this feature added in a new release.

We have been using Tintri VMstore for more than one year.

Tintri VMstore provided us up to 99.99% scalability.

We have been easily able to scale from 100 to 500+ VMs using Tintri VMstore; we have had no challenges scaling up while using Tintri VMspot

We were using HPE Nimble Storage earlier, and we were looking for a better-performing solution with a faster processing speed and a single pane of glass management.

As it is a flash array storage, it is much more expensive than a traditional disk-based storage system.

We did evaluate the following options before finally settling on Tintri VMstore:

1. PureStorage

2. Dell PowerStore

3. Dell Unity

We use it mostly for our VM storage.

The benefit we have seen is the simplification. Using Tintri has been more of a set-and-forget-it situation where I trust that Tintri performs as expected. And it does. It definitely reduces administrative time. Once I set it up I barely had any issues with storage.

The cloning is very fast.

Also, the fact that VMstore enables you to do replications, snapshots, and setting QS at a virtual machine level is awesome because it's more of a set-and-forget-it type of situation.

Another aspect I like is that it's very simple. It's an easy GUI to use.

I have not had any major problems with it except that one of the controllers failed one time. But that didn't hinder performance because there were two of them.

A feature like replication for disaster recovery would be nice.

I have been using Tintri VMstore since 2016-2017. I used one of the earlier models with no SSDs. It was mostly physical drives.

It's very stable. I've never had any problems with Tintri. They usually are pretty good at keeping track of their equipment. Usually, because they have noticed some hard drives are going down or are bad, they have already sent us drives to replace them. Tintri is one of the appliances that I barely needed to look at and maintain.

Although now we have SSD drives, during the time that I was using it, it was mostly physical drives. What I feel would be nice, in terms of a wishlist, is scalability. Rather than replacing the whole appliance, I would like to be able to just add another unit and scale it like that. I know there are some limitations to things like that, but scalability, as opposed to having to buy a new appliance for higher capacity, would be good.

Their tech support is above average.

We didn't have other storage, at that time, that was VM-ready, such as Pure Storage and others. What we mostly had was some sort of NFS storage. The storage that we were using was old and not really VM-centric. When we moved to Tintri, it provided the best solution for everything. 

We switched because of performance. Isilon wasn't really meant for VM.

It took three to four hours to get VMstore rack-mounted, installed, and starting to serve the virtual machines.

In terms of maintenance, I just rely on the notifications and check on it from time to time. It has been pretty self-reliant.

What I have heard, price-wise, is that Tinti was definitely very competitive. That's one of the reasons it was chosen for us.

We did play around with a little bit of vSAN, but that was a little bit more complicated and more expensive, considering the licensing.

For day-to-day use, VMstore has been solid VM storage for us.

We primarily use Tintri VMstore solution for our VM database storage needs. Previously we used IBM flash storage services. However, it had significant drawbacks. So, we switched to Tintri VMstore solution, and it met all our storage needs and more. 

The extra layer of security it provides is also very valuable for our organization. We use 24 VMs in our environment currently, and our customer database contains sensitive information. With the help of Tintri VMstore solution, we are also on the right path for future expansions.

Tintri VMstore solution brought a very positive change and impact on our day-to-day operations, and we have encountered little to no hiccups until now. 

As explained earlier, with all our physical and virtual infrastructure, the Tintri VMstore solution has been very helpful in managing our needs and provides easy integrations and extra layers of security. 

Overall, using Tintri VMstore solution, compared to the previously used alternatives, has given us far better output and services, and support over the period of its use.

The data encryption feature adds a valuable security enhancement with no impact on performance. The SecureVM feature of Tintri VMstore encrypts all data going through it with zero impact on performance or output and can be managed using the VMStore dashboard. 

This adds an additional layer of security to the organization's infrastructure and is a valuable additional feature. 

Since all the data we are processing is sensitive and a compromise cannot be afforded, using Tintri VMstore has benefited the organization thus far.

We need more options to integrate with cloud storage options other than the current AWS and IBM that it currently supports. We also use Microsoft Azure services for a portion of our database and would like to see the seamless integration of that platform with Tintri VMstore as well. 

Additionally, support ticket times could be reduced, and the method could be made a little more robust to save time and effort. 

The addition and improvement of these features can make Tintri VMstore stand out as the leading solution for VM storage and Database management.

I've used the solution for two years.

We use it for a hospital. 

The most valuable feature is the VM management. It has good technology. 

Make sure to do a POC. Then after that, put into production. You'll see that the technology is good. 

I would rate it an eight out of ten. 

The features are good but the brand name is not so popular here.

We have been using Tintri VMstore for two years. 

It is stable. 

We are a medium-sized enterprise. We have around 200 users. 

The initial setup is straightforward. It didn't take that long to deploy. 

The pricing is reasonable. 

We primarily used the solution for the server and for our VDI.

The most valuable aspect of the solution was how fast it worked on behalf of VDI desktops.

The dashboard and the integration capabilities were okay.

In the end, we decided the price wasn't going to work for us, along with the fact there was fussiness around the storage. 

Technical support needs improvement as well.  

Technical support is an area where we had several issues, and it was hard to get some support in a specific case we had. I'm not very satisfied with them.

The initial setup was straightforward.

We used the on-premises deployment model. Recently, we stopped using the solution.

I would rate the solution seven out of ten.

In our production environment, we have 10 ESX hosts with two replicated Tintri T850 SAN.

• It is fast and reliable. There hasn’t been a single failure in three years of use. 
• The VMs have worked fine, and the bandwidth to the Tintri SAN has never been an issue.

• Ease of managing and installing: It’s just to enter an IP address and you’re good to go. 
• It’s very good at IOPS. 
• The firmware upgrade is easy.

I would like it to have the ability to store data other than virtual machines. At the moment, you can only connect VMs to it, and that’s a bit disappointing.

I use Tintri box for a VDI solution, hosting at least 1800 VDI stations there, deployment really easy, really good performance. No major issues.

It speeds up deployment significantly. This is one of the greatest improvements because we are able to deploy several virtual machines in seconds. The cloning feature on the Tintri Box is really impressive.

The deduplication feature in VDI environments. If Tintri say's: "we can host 3000 VMs in our storage", I know, we can host 3000 VMs there. Believe the results.

The area it needs to improve is the pricing. It could be better. Another topic is the replication feature, In the version 4.3 the syncronous replication is not so friendly and you have to do procedures manually to come back once you recover one of your nodes. 

One to three years.

Good. We had a couple of issues from the start and they were resolved very quickly with no impact on production.

In the past, we used a typical SAN solution. We made the switch because of the simplicity of the design. We can use the same network devices that have a large number of connections, instead of SAN switches. That's one less layer. And because the deployment is really really fast.

The initial setup is straightforward, no advanced knowledge is required to do it.

Explore the Tintri Synchronous Replication feature (licensing is required). This is a good solution to protect your environment at Storage Level and your RTO will be improved by this.

VMware virtualisation for Client with VMware VDI & vCenter for server synchronised over two data centers.

• Easy installation, stable, and reliable operating with an almost zero-touch approach. 
• Allows for more time to worry about real problems.

• The web GUI for maintenance and resource monitoring purposes is easy to use.
• If you have to reconfigure or check something, you will not be lost with too many unnecessary options.
• Excellent 24/7 support with good reaction times. A lot of first time contacts were to a technical person, not log and route.

In sync and automated mirror between two Tintris is missing. However, as far as I know, it is on their roadmap.

Not a lot to do more on a Tintri. It is always monitored by the vendor, if you like, and their reaction time and quality are awesome.

Moving on to a synched and automated mirror between two data centers was not possible. We have been hearing for a month that this feature will become available. However, in the end, it was too late for us.

A very good support team that is available 24/7. They have real technical staff with strong knowledge.

HP EVA, which is not admin friendly.

Five to 10 min to production.

The vendor team's level of expertise is very good.

Make sure that you have all licenses in one go. Options afterwards can cost extra.

An "all-in-one" license model would be better at this price range.

Tintri T5060 SSD array used for high performance requirements of Windows 10 VDI environment using Citrix XenDesktop.

KPI: Performance must be equal to or better than a local user environment.

The Tintri VMstore was faster than most local user laptops and desktops available at the time. Most users were on spinning disk or hybrid storage. 

In the VDI environment, the "VM-aware" T5060, along with its extremely fast speeds, has removed storage as your typical bottleneck.

• Its VM-aware features have been excellent to use and integrate with XenServer as well. 
• Its speed has been absolutely fantastic. 
• Upgrades are super easy and can be done during business hours without interruptions in production.

• I would love more insight into each virtual machine statistic. 
• The Tintri Analytics site is excellent for long-term trending, but more data would be great.

Ensure the storage system "natively" supports the protocols that you wish to use (i.e., CIFS) without the need for the overhead of internal "conversion VMs" that run the protocols.

We evaluated Pure Storage SSD arrays.

Tintri has been a breeze to deal with!  We have had no issues.

Our old storage platform was on ageing hardware and the performance in our environment was declining. We purchased the Tintri VMstore to increase performance in our virtualised  environment.

Tintri VMstore has improved my organization by providing a huge performance increase, mostly to our Citrix XenApp environment. Our users have not complained about slow downs while using or opening apps since we got VMstore.

The feature that I find most valuable is the VM level awareness that the VMstore gives you. This is great for finding problems where VMs are hogging all the performance. 

The VMstore is also very stable. I have not had a single issue since the purchase my company made.

The product could be improved by adding iSCSI support, as others have mentioned. We have had to rethink how we implement some of our services due to this.

Less than one year.

Tintri VMstore is rock solid. We have not had a single issue with it. It is also very low maintenance allowing us to concentrate on project work.

We have not had any issues with this. Currently, we only have one VMstore.

Support from our vendor and Tintri are brilliant. They have always answered all of our questions promptly.

We previously used a NetApp SAN which was ageing and not performing, so we needed a new device. Tintri was recommended by our third-party.

The setup is very straightforward. We were setup in no time and ready to start migrating VMs onto the device.

We implemented this solution through our vendor. They recommended this solution and had a high level of expertise.

Tintri is reasonably priced for the solution you get. Advanced features do require extra to use. 

We did not evaluate other options.

Tintri is the best solution that I have used. The performance is second to none!
