We used Trend Micro Email Security for 12 years, and then we wanted to move with the technology where we can implement AI or Artificial Intelligence in the email protection.

Detection effectiveness and centralized management streamline threat response
Pros and Cons
- "Trend Vision One has helped to reduce my time to detect and respond to threats; it was our gateway for almost 12 years."
- "It was crucial because if remediation can be done in one or two clicks, in Trend, we have to do at least eight clicks to achieve the same result."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
I like that the detection of Trend Micro Email Security is good, but the remediation part is a bit tricky. There are more steps to be followed compared to other products, making navigation between the options a bit cumbersome.
From an admin perspective, centralized management was important to me from a troubleshooting perspective, so that we don't spend much time navigating. It was crucial because if remediation can be done in one or two clicks, in Trend, we have to do at least eight clicks to achieve the same result.
Trend Vision One has helped to reduce my time to detect and respond to threats; it was our gateway for almost 12 years.
It has also helped my organization reduce noise from false positives.
What needs improvement?
They need to improve the dashboard in the future to make the product more effective.
How are customer service and support?
My experience with the technical support by Trend Micro was good; they were very responsive and helpful whenever we needed assistance, meaning customer support was very good with them.
The area of support that requires improvement would be the response time, but their marketing team was good.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?
The reason for deciding to switch from Trend Micro was the dashboard which they have; it was good, but not as good as the ones from Tessian, Check Point, or Mimecast.
The other products such as Mimecast, Check Point, and Proofpoint provided centralized visibility and management across protection layers, which is why they had the upper hand.
Proofpoint has a very large threat database because they are the leaders in the email security providers. They have a much larger threat database, and their dashboard is very good.
What other advice do I have?
There's not much difference between similar products; almost everything is the same, but the dashboard was a very deciding factor for us.
I would definitely recommend this product to others, but it's up to them because every product is the same; it's only the feature that is displayed to the user, such as how fast you can identify the threat and remediate it, which makes a difference, so basically, every product shows the threat and the remediation steps, but it's the time saved while going between options that really matters.
I would rate the Trend Micro Email Security product an eight overall. I rate the product as I did because it served its purpose for almost 12 years for us, and luckily, there was never any incident due to Trend.

Provides ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) feature which utilizes machine learning algorithm
Pros and Cons
- "The solution's most valuable feature is ATP (Advanced Threat Protection), which utilizes the machine learning algorithm."
- "The solution's interface, which we get from an admin perspective, sometimes gets confusing."
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable feature is ATP (Advanced Threat Protection), which utilizes the machine learning algorithm. We analyze the behavior and pattern analysis and come up with a case. When events and incidents come, the solution suppresses the amount of events and alerts that come from it.
The solution has a robust system that evaluates itself for false positive alarms. We get 1,00,000 events daily, and the tool suppresses about 5,000 to 6,000 of them with its intelligent machine learning system.
The solution's detect and block feature is very good and determines where to detect and where to block. For example, the tool will detect if someone is trying to send a huge file, breaching the policy. However, if someone tries to send you a confidential file repeatedly, it will block automatically based on the machine learning patterns.
What needs improvement?
The solution's interface, which we get from an admin perspective, sometimes gets confusing. I would like it more if the flow of the feature were good. If you continuously work on the tool, you will become well-versed in the features, but new users will take some time to become familiar with it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Email Security for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution’s stability ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Trend Micro Email Security is suitable for all company sizes.
I rate the solution ten out of ten for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
Sometimes, it's very hard to get support from Trend Micro.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
Sometimes, the solution's implementation takes a lot of time, and it is not fast. The solution's deployment takes more than a few hours.
On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution's initial setup a seven out of ten.
What was our ROI?
Trend Micro Email Security is a cost-saving solution because it has many features that reduce the integration of other tools.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution's pricing totally depends on the organization's bandwidth. The solution is cheap for some and expensive for others. I would say Trend Micro Email Security is neither cheap nor expensive. The solution's pricing is very optimum, given its quality, features, and stability.
On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I assess whether their controls are in place and whether the tool works perfectly fine. I also assess the policies configured for phishing and spam prevention, the aspects we have incorporated in terms of advanced threat protection (ATP), the main feature of this Trend Micro Email Security, and the utilization of a preexisting machine learning algorithm.
Suppose someone continuously tries to send some data. In that case, I assess how the tool analyzes the user pattern behavior, whether it is blocking or not, and what configurations are configured in the tool's policy. These are the systems I have been working on. I am an integrator who does assessments for the tool security testing.
Trend Micro Email Security is deployed on the cloud. The solution has machine-learning capabilities, which help the tool in handling threats. I would recommend the solution to other users because it's a very useful tool that protects your organization from outside threats. While communicating outside the organization, the solution's ATP feature secures any confidential information you send.
Overall, I rate the solution ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Effectively blocks spams and introduces new antivirus programs
Pros and Cons
- "Some people can hack our system by sending emails from our domain to our domain. This is blocked completely by Trend Micro."
- "Trend Micro Email Security can improve on scam detection. It could use AI in this area."
What is our primary use case?
The main usage of Trend Micro, in general, is for email. There were a lot of attacks. We work in Saudi Arabia, and I believe Saudi Arabia is targeted. So we have a lot of hacks.
In spite of our firewall and security systems, I found that most of the attacks came through emails. So, after installing Trend Micro, I actually used Proofpoint, Trend Micro, and then Microsoft Defender. Over time, I found that Trend Micro alone is quite enough.
Now, I am satisfied with the protection that Trend Micro provides to email.
How has it helped my organization?
It's a complete solution for not only email, but for any kind of attack - for the network, for antivirus, everything.
What is most valuable?
Blocking spam is the most valuable aspect of this product for me. Some people can hack our system by sending emails from our domain to our domain. This is blocked completely by Trend Micro.
Another one is that if I give you a public email, like ABC@gmail.com, ABC is not related to the display name. So people use this tactic here in this area; they pick up the names of the chairman, for instance, from the Internet or whatever, and then create a public email. So, the display name is very different from the public email address. I found that Trend Micro can block this.
We suffered a lot from such attacks. We can look at it; it's a normal email. It's just that someone can create a fake email or a true public email but with a fake display name. None of the other antivirus programs could catch this, but we reported this many times to Trend Micro.
Then, we came up with a solution where they compared the display name to the email address. If there's a big difference, they can contain the email until you take action. Trend Micro Security detects such emails.
What needs improvement?
Trend Micro Email Security can improve on scam detection. It could use AI in this area. For example, there is a normal email, and it asks for contact information or to make a relationship or something like that. So it needs a feature that can read the contents of the emails or the attached files. Maybe this could be done through AI tools that can analyze if this is a kind of scam or not.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using it for two years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. I don't have any complaints so far. Otherwise, I would change it. I would go for another product.
I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I am satisfied with the scalability of Trend Micro Email Security.
I would rate the scalability a seven out of ten, with ten being the best.
How are customer service and support?
I am satisfied with the customer service and support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have emails from Microsoft 365, specifically CloudOne. For backup, we use a software called CodeTwo. We used the major security measures of Microsoft.
With Microsoft Defender, something was wrong with the configuration; maybe from our side or the vendor's side, it was not effective. That's why we went for Trend Micro.
How was the initial setup?
The implementation of Trend Micro into our IT security workflow was quite simple.
We are not a bank or a financial services company. We are a manufacturing company or group. So, the security measures here are really different from those of a financial services company.
Here, all we have is firewalls in each branch like this, and we have Trend Micro.
It is quite easy to setup. I would rate my experience with the initial setup an eight out of ten, with ten being easy and one being difficult. It took a couple of hours.
It is set up in the cloud environment.
What was our ROI?
There has been ROI. Security is very crucial to our business. And if you have communication with your customers or clients, especially if there is something related to invoicing or payment, it's quite critical that you make sure that whatever you see or send is correct and confidential. Because it happened before that we lost some data because of this kind of attack.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
The features of such security software are all very similar, and very close to each other. But if you would like to select one, look at the support. It is quite important. So is the local agent. With Trend Micro, I found it easy to deal with these people.
With the vendor and their support, because, for some reason, Trend Micro is famous here in Saudi Arabia.
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten, with ten being the best and one being the worst.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

The solution blocks spam emails from reaching the user’s mailbox but should introduce new features, improvements, and updates
Pros and Cons
- "Trend Micro Email Security scans all email attachments because, nowadays, ransomware or malware files are sent through email attachments."
- "Trend Micro Email Security should introduce new features, improvements, and updates which are cost-effective and easy to deploy."
What is our primary use case?
We use Trend Micro Email Security for the security of our email services.
How has it helped my organization?
As a manufacturing unit, we need to coordinate with other businesses, vendors, and suppliers. So every day, we get a lot of emails, and out of 100 emails, 70 to 80 are spam emails or malware. Trend Micro Email Security blocks such spam emails and allows only genuine emails to reach our mailbox.
What is most valuable?
Trend Micro Email Security scans all email attachments because, nowadays, ransomware or malware files are sent through email attachments. So we receive the email only after they are scanned, and then we know it's safe to open the attachment.
Attachment scanning is our priority because a user may not be aware of whether the email attachment needs to be opened. If they open by mistake, it might cause a security lapse. Trend Micro Email Security helps us a lot on this front, and such emails get blocked on the server.
What needs improvement?
Trend Micro Email Security should introduce new features, improvements, and updates which are cost-effective and easy to deploy.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Trend Micro Email Security for the last six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate Trend Micro Email Security a nine out of ten for stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Around 2,000 users are using Trend Micro Email Security in our organization. We are a manufacturing unit, and email services are given to our employees in different departments. So anyone using our official email is a part of this service.
I rate Trend Micro Email Security ten out of ten for scalability.
How are customer service and support?
Trend Micro Email Security's technical support is good. When we open a ticket with the service desk, they immediately revert with the solution or ask us to provide the logs.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used McAfee. We switched to Trend Micro Email Security because it fulfilled all our specifications and requirements.
How was the initial setup?
I rate Trend Micro Email Security a nine out of ten for the ease of its initial setup.
What about the implementation team?
Trend Micro Email Security can be deployed within 24 hours.
Our email needs to be pointed to that. So any email we send to the public network or any email coming from the public network should first hit the anti-spam server. Once the anti-spam server does the scanning, the email should be delivered to my network. So the pointer should be on the ISP side and point to the Trend Micro Cloud Server.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Trend Micro Email Security's pricing is reasonable. On a scale of one to ten, where one is the low price, and ten is the high price, I rate Trend Micro Email Security's pricing a five out of ten.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Before choosing Trend Micro Email Security, we evaluated Symantec.
What other advice do I have?
Trend Micro Email Security is deployed on-cloud in our organization.
I recommend users do a POC, and if they're satisfied, they should deploy Trend Micro Email Security.
Overall, I rate Trend Micro Email Security a six out of ten.

Though the tool has good integration capabilities, its scalability features need improvement
Pros and Cons
- "The integration capability of the solution is good."
- "The capacity handling and the scalability of the solution need to be improved since I feel Trend Micro lacks in such areas."
What is our primary use case?
I use the tool in my company to control spam spam emails. There are certain spam emails that come into an enterprise. The basic use cases of the tool involve stopping spam emails so that our enterprise remains protected from different attacks.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that it has been integrated with sandbox, which is something good. The rest of the tools in the market have a separate sandbox solution. The integration capability of the solution is good.
What needs improvement?
The capacity handling and the scalability of the solution need to be improved since I feel Trend Micro lacks in such areas.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Email Security for three years. My company has a partnership with Trend Micro. I use the solution's latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the product is good.

What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for both external and internal email protection.
What is most valuable?
The important features are the malware analysis sandbox and the UI wrapper.
What needs improvement?
Trend Micro Email Security has limitations, especially when investigating a particular email. For example, I can't run a query on the app itself and can only look back one month by default. It would be helpful if I could extend that to 80-90 days.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Email Security for five or six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution's scalability is good.
We're doing the testing on about 17000 users.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support is excellent because each time we build a technical support ticket, the OEM and local partners are always available to provide support. We haven't had any issues with our product, and Trend Micro provides configuration support in terms of R&D. We also provided feedback leading to improvements in the new releases of the solution.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are using Microsoft Edge and Defender for endpoint security.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward and took us about three to four months to complete.
We are integrating Trend Micro Email Security with other modules like DPI, DTS, and Deep Security to improve our overall security.
Our methodology is to have as much knowledge about the application as possible, like IBM. We do this by directly engaging with our resources and the OEM. This has helped us to provide first-level and even two-level technical support solutions. During the deployment phase, there was a lot of knowledge transferred.
What was our ROI?
Trend Micro Email Security has an ROI of 800%, given the cost implications and the fact that it has prevented our company from being attacked.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is adequate based on the value provided.
What other advice do I have?
We require about ten people, including managers and engineers, for the solution’s deployments and maintenance. The manager introduces the governance, and engineers do the implementation.
Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
