I sell this solution to my customers, based on their needs.
The deployment model for my customers is more commonly on-premise.

The most important feature is the ability to automatically backup and restore databases. In particular, with the advent of virtual machines running multiple versions of Database, being able to back them up and restore them from one single Dashboard is very important for disaster recovery and business efficiency.
This product is very geared toward a Microsoft environment, but there are many applications apart from Microsoft. Better integration with non-Microsoft products would be an improvement.
I would also like to see more support for Hyper-V environments and NoSQL databases.
In terms of stability, this solution is very good.
This solution is very scalable, it can be implemented a two tier System spanning multiple locations.
The initial setup of this solution is very straightforward, and it can be installed with an in-house team.
I think setup and management to should be easy for a backup applications, because skill personnel for IT Jobs are scarce these days leaving admins with more work. So Automation and simplicity is the way to go to be able to complete your work.
I think cost much be seen in relation to the value of what is being backed up.
If you purchased a brand new Mercedes, would you purchase low cost insurance for it?
Veritas Backup Exec is an SMB solution, so for an SMB customer that does not have a Unix environment, I would recommend this product. However, for larger enterprise customers, I would recommend another product such as Veritas NetBackup.
All of the features that I can wish for are already in there. The interface, dashboard, and pricing are all perfect.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
We primarily use the solution as thumbprints for backups.
We did a number of restores using the application. Even though the earlier versions of Veritas would not allow us to restore single files, in later versions, maybe around the 2016 version and beyond, we were able to restore single files. You could restore a single file for a user if you needed to. You didn't have to restore the entire backup before you could select the user's file for him or her. For me, that was good.
The backup feature was the most valuable for us. We used it on the exchange and SQL for mass files and folders. When we did backups, we did full backups as opposed to incremental ones. We found that for exchange, SQL and even for single files we were able to restore the resource process as well.
The cost is quite high. Along with the general costs, the supposed agents that you have to buy for the various options that you want to use ends up driving the costs higher as well.
There was also one time when I tried to use the disaster recovery option, which didn't go very well. There needs to be an improvement in this feature. Originally, I used the trial version to see how well it will come out before I went in for the full license, and because it went so bad I did not continue with it.
It would be helpful if the solution had disaster recovery for cloud options.
It is quite a stable application. We didn't have to run too many updates yet. I just had to run maybe one or two updates, and it was fine. With many other applications, you need to run several updates within a year, but with Veritas, this was not the case.
I don't think the solution has a lot of scalability. There were a few areas that I tried out and I had challenges with them. I think that they have areas that they need to look at and make improvements. If I were to rate it out of ten, I would give it a seven.
The few times that I had to contact technical support had been a bit cumbersome. You had to keep calling and you just moved from one place to the other, and it wasn't that easy to get the support.
The online support, however, where you have to go into the portal to find the information, was much easier to deal with, compared to calling the help desk. There was enough information on the portal to be helpful if you ran into issues. Most of the time, my first option was the portal. I was able to find relevant information to help me, to get what I needed that way.
The solution is quite stable, so I've very rarely had to actually contact technical support.
The initial setup was straightforward. The deployment was easy. I didn't have any problems. I deployed it on the very first day myself and installed it into that was IBM built into Dell team backups. I didn't have to install any additional drivers. The application already had them, so it was able to recognize my team's loopholes easily. I didn't have a problem with that. And then having to set up my backup selection also wasn't a problem. I was able to do it easily.
I implemented the solution myself.
From the outset, we had heard a lot of feedback from colleagues, so we went directly to Veritas. We didn't do an evaluation of other solutions.
We used the on-premise version of the solution.
The dashboard was good. I loved to see the maintenance dashboard every time I logged on. That was my first screen because it always gave me a reminder of how many days before my next renewal.
I have evaluated the solution against other applications, and it is quite stable, but if you want to compare it to what other applications are offering, then I would say that I would hesitate if I have to make that recommendation that others should use it.
I would rate this solution 8 out of 10.
We use this solution for backup and recovery.
The deployment model for this solution is on-premise.
The most valuable feature is the user-friendly interface.
The interface could use improvement.
This product is fantastically stable.
The scalability of this solution is good.
Technical support for this solution is great.
We did not use another solution prior to this one.
The deployment will take a maximum of two to three hours.
We performed the implementation ourselves, but we asked for help from the technical team at Veritas.
We are satisfied with the price of this solution.
Everything that I need is available with Veritas.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
We implement digital solutions for our customers and this is one of the products that we help them with. It handles their backup and recovery.
In most cases, our customers use a private cloud deployment model.
The most valuable feature is the ability to back up IBM Power virtual servers. The functionality does not even exist in Veeam.
I would like to see a more powerful and effective processor in the appliance.
Compared to other vendors, there are features that you will find not included in Veritas.
This is a very stable solution.
The scalability of this solution is good. It is very flexible.
Technical support for this solution is good, and I haven't and any problems with them.
This was our first backup solution.
This initial setup of this solution is not complex, but once it is deployed you need to have somebody who can handle it.
There were no other vendors on our shortlist. We did evaluate a few other products, but our customers did not need the whole portfolio.
This is a solution that I recommend.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
We use this solution for backing up our network servers. This includes our Oracle SQL databases, Windows backup, Direct Control, Active Directory, and our Exchange server.
We are using the on-premise deployment model.
Most companies are now implementing network servers, and we have done the same. This solution works well and has good integration with technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
The most valuable feature is the backing up of our network servers.
This solution does not support image-level backup of a physical server.
The backup and restore process should be faster.
This solution is very stable.
Scalability of this solution is good.
Technical support for this solution is very good.
I use multiple solutions for backup and recovery. I currently work with Commvault and Veeam. In the past, I have used also used CloudFare and Acronis.
The initial setup of this solution is straightforward. The deployment takes between one and two hours. One person is sufficient for the installation, although you may need help from other people for the integration with other solutions.
One administrator is enough to maintain this solution.
I work as a consultant for Veritas and I implement this solution for other companies.
The three most popular solutions are Veritas, Veeam, and Commvault.
My advice to anybody who is implementing this product is to read the admin guide. It is important to look at the prerequisites, such as the operating system version. Find out whether you satisfy the minimum requirements for compatibility.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Our primary use case for Veritas Backup Exec is to take the emails from all the servers and for backing up the files. We require administrative control of that process.
We use Veritas for incremental backups for all the servers. It is an automated process. Lately, we have taken advantage of the full backup facilities provided by the product.
Veritas Backup Exec has enabled us to save costs.
One nice feature with Backup Exec is mainly that disaster can happen to any server and the disk image can be destroyed very easily. It's also easy to fully email the backup image and restore the server.
A lot of backup solutions are coming out now and a lot of new disaster recovery software is coming. We should see an updated cycle in six months or one year. Veritas Backup Exec should be more user-friendly. The costs should also be much lower and it should be easier to go through the disaster recovery process.
This solution has been working perfectly for us for many years now. I did not encounter any major problems or issues with it during production.
We need some more added value to this software, i.e. better disaster recovery.
The stability of the solution is good. I cannot think of any issues that we've had with stability.
I would give the scalability an 8/10. We have more than 50 to 60 servers. We were declined to accomplish what the servers needed for images at that scale.
We can support 50 servers and after that, we use some higher angle or higher position user permissions for backups because of our infrastructure requirements.
For deployment and maintenance, we only require 4-5 people.
The technical support is very good. They give us very good support. We don't have any problems with support.
We were also using Symantec Enterprise Vault.
It's easy to set up, setting up it is no problem. The configuration is also very easy.
The setup time for Backup Exec was about one week. If the structure is very heavy, then it will take around one month to set up.
We had some help from what our integration company would provide for the setup. Then we go through our own internal configuration settings.
For Backup Exec usage, the client uses the software with us because we have a license for this product. The license availability we have is for ten years.
Licensing is somewhat expensive. They should decrease the price.
This solution we are using now is only for the data backups. The last data recovery we were on had different features and functionality.
Disaster recovery is only part of our backup solution for our internal operations. Other backup solutions were not as reliable, i.e. the previous solution crashed. After that, I knew that Backup Exec solution was what I was looking for because it has better features for recovery.
For our internal purposes, Veritas Backup Exec is very good, but for disaster recovery, you should go with another product.
Nowadays, everything is going on the cloud and the backup solutions should also be also fast. A lot of things we are maintaining now require professional disaster recovery services. With Veritas, an internal alert problem is happening for all the windows which should be somewhat decreased. Then it would be better and more user-friendly.
I am giving Veritas Backup Exec an 8 out of 10. The Backup Exec software is very good but should be updated with new features.
I primarily use this solution as a backup service. I have used it for more then 10 years. It is a good backup tool.
It can support all of my backup, and all of my applications. It is able to backup everything.
I would like to see them improve on faster restoration. Currently, it takes a long time to restore my data.
The stability is very good.
It is very good.
The tech support is very good.
I was involved, it was not a complicated setup.
It is important for me for the solution to support all metadata, the entire database. It must support the entire platform.
When I joined my company, they had already purchased Backup Exec. We use it as a backup solution.
It's a nice alternate solution for backup.
The most valuable features are that it is user-friendly. It also works nicely with Windows and Skype. In addition, there are nice backup features.
First, it would be nice to improve the cloud.
Second, it would be nice to improve the backup acceleration and the
fast restoration required. This solution just doesn't meet my business needs for backup plans.
Lastly, the reporting needs improvement. Backup Exec does not have the strong art of reporting tools, because we sometimes have to get more than six months or an
annual based report.
We are satisfied with the stability of the product.
There is nothing wrong with the scalability of the product.
We have had a lot of trouble with tech support.
It is very easy to install and implement. In addition, the upgrades are also easy to implement.
In the global business world, Veritas has a very good name. I think they have a good solid product, and they are always trying to improve and update it. They know what the client actually needs, and they are up to the challenge of satisfying those needs.

Samuel,
Good to catch up with you here.
I'd be interested in knowing what did not work on the disaster recovery testing. We are successfully using it for a client to fully (Baremetal) restore is AD environment.
Let's talk offline.
