I've significantly improved my desktop processing productivity

What is most valuable?

By using a VMware player, I've significantly improved my desktop processing productivity. By having multiple VMs running in the background for testing software, running scripts, or doing other CPU intensive tasks, I can get a lot more accomplished without interfering with my programs running in the forefront on a PC or another VM.

What needs improvement?

The initial setup is quite easy, but can be daunting to someone unfamiliar with desktop computing environments.

Simple to set up, user-friendly, and makes building test environments easy
Pros and Cons
  • "It's really easy to build testing environments with VMware Player."
  • "The tool has limited scalability."

What is our primary use case?

It's a VDI.

We have some virtual machines for testing purposes. The machines are our VMware. I don't remember the version. We use VMware Player to create a tester environment.

What is most valuable?

It's really easy to build testing environments with VMware Player. The solution is very user-friendly.

The package is similar to when you build other virtual machines. With this, you have to have everything in the package.

It’s the type of solution that is pretty simple to set up.

What needs improvement?

It’s not really lacking any features. It has everything a company would need.

For maybe the web component that you need to deploy, you do requires a web server or something like that.

The tool has limited scalability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I’ve used the solution for one year, more or less.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been very good. We have no real complaints in that regard. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn’t crash or freeze. It’s very reliable. The performance is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is really small. The scalability is therefore limited.

We only have two or three people using the solution right now. They are administrators and software developers.

How are customer service and support?

We have local support from our providers. We do not directly deal with VMware if issues arise. Therefore, I can’t speak to their customer service capabilities.

How was the initial setup?

It’s not difficult to set up. It’s very, very straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

We’re just customers and end-users.

It's a great product that we would advise others to implement it.

I’d rate the solution nine out of ten.

Great for testing and solving connection problems
Pros and Cons
  • "Great at solving connection problems."
  • "Performance could be improved, it's somewhat clunky."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this product is to connect to my virtual interpreter of VMs and the like. In the event of an emergency, or if the user wants to deploy a VM on his own virtual system, Workstation can create a number of VMs in their own system, without having to connect back to the network. We deploy this solution for our clients and have around 15 customers that are using it. We are resellers of VMware Workstation.

What is most valuable?

This product has a lot of good features and the basic one is for solving connection problems. Users can deploy the test machines or the VM machines on their own system and do the testing part. They can set up their own lab or own test set up on their system and do what they need.

What needs improvement?

I think that performance could be improved by making it more effective and less resource consuming. It's a little clunky.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable, we haven't had any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable - you can install it on your system and run a number of VMs which connect back to the central data, so it's inter-connectable, connecting access to VPNs.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of this product was straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution an eight out of 10.
