There are too many changes because it's software-defined storage and host-based. They should reduce the number of patches and enhance product reliability and stability. When releasing new versions, they should perform thorough quality checks instead of flooding us with patches. They should prioritize quality over timeliness to minimize customer disruptions and not force customers into a cycle of fixes that interfere with daily work. The quality of releases and version control has to be improved tremendously. You don't release a version just because it's time to release a version, and then let the customers find out all the bugs in it. They have to reduce the amount of work customers have to do because of repeated fixes. I would rather have them take some extra time, do their due diligence, do their testing thoroughly, and make sure there are very few customer disruptions. The quality of the release should be very high.

It is user-friendly, but there are several different interfaces. When you want to do something, you have to log in at different levels. We only use S3. I don't know if it would be possible to unify everything onto one interface. I typically have at least three different views with three user interfaces open when I work on something. I find it quite complicated at times. It has a steep learning curve to understand all these features and get familiar with them. I know there are developments in the forecast to improve the interfaces so that three interfaces can be open at the same time. Scality offers various interfaces where you can find detailed evidence. The various interfaces can be a bit complicated. There's a learning curve to learn all these features. There's still work to be done for the next version to make it a little easier to use.

I would like to see more possibilities in the UI for managing aspects of the RING as indicated in the roadmap for the next version of their product. I would like to see more features implemented with S3 since not all features are implemented in Scality RING, particularly features such as the possibility to manage all RINGs with one portal. I don't think they can improve the technology for structured data usage because it's particularly for cloud storage. It might happen in the future, but I doubt it.

When it comes to the ease of managing large volumes of data, for example, via the user interface when testing, it's quite complex. The downside isn't the solution itself, but perhaps the administration. I'm an end user, I'm an operational pilot, and on top of that, I don't administer the solution. However, I do keep an eye on it, I know how it works. I have a very clear view of the different layers used in Scality RING. It's true that this is a fairly complex issue for the average person. You really need to have a good understanding of S3, AWS-type solutions, and administration, because there are certain application layers integrated into the solution that are very intertwined. You still need a certain way of doing things and thinking that requires certain skills. It's complicated at that level, but I can't say it's insurmountable. It's not insurmountable for an administrator who has mastered it. They still need to be trained beforehand. Encryption today is not up to date. Encryption and data security need improvement. We don't have a solution for customers who need confidentiality. On the negative side, I would say that it is a fairly complex platform to administer. One person is not enough; you need at least two, if not more, for maintenance. If everything depends on it, it's clear that everything will depend on the ability of the people to manage the investment. You have to analyze the incident, you have to understand it, and you have to find the sticking point.
It's a very good product, but for large-scale usage, it has limitations. Scality RING's lack of extensive testing and potential hidden limitations. While Scality provides precise architecture guidelines for sizing the storage infrastructure, Orange utilizes a different processor architecture for its Ovi servers, requiring additional optimization beyond what Scality offers. In essence, the product lacks third-party optimization capabilities.

If I had to choose a new aspect for the system, it would be the rebalancing. The ease of use during capacity upgrades would be the most important improvement. I don't know if they manage it better right now or not, but it was really horrible to extend capacity on Scality at the time that I used it. When you add new servers in the node or ring, Scality does rebalancing to split the workload across all the nodes and servers. It moves the data from one server to another.
Scality RING is the scalable and resilient object storage solution designed for modern workloads, providing seamless data protection against evolving cyber threats.Scality RING leverages S3 object storage to meet unpredictable demands with a patented MultiScale Architecture that offers limitless scalability across capacity, performance, and more. Scality RING8 could improve by having more features. We have to use two automation tools to meet our needs. We would prefer to use only one.
