I use AWS Auto Scaling for websites to manage traffic coming into the website. I worked with the group that built this website, and my duty was to do the Auto Scaling to manage the traffic that was coming in.
To scale it, on the days that we have more traffic, we scale it up, and we scale it down when we have less traffic.

Setting up the configuration involves too much work for the cloud engineer, like configuring the ALB, the target group, and all the steps. This complexity led me to migrate to CloudFormation, which simplifies the deployment process.

Auto Scaling is a feature available within AWS Compute services. If my workload runs mostly in the daytime and the usage is low at night, I keep five instances in the day and one or two at night. During Christmas or other festive seasons, when the load is much more, we can enable the tool to scale the number of instances based on the load automatically.
The tool keeps my number of instances low in case the utilization is low. It keeps the cost of running the machines low.
If our workload utilization is inconsistent, it is better to use AWS Auto Scaling. If we have a hard-coded number of instances running, we might be wasting Compute if we don't have enough workload. The health check is one of the key features integrated with the tool. If one of my instances goes down, the health check feature identifies and creates another instance to ensure the minimum number of instances required for the workload is available. The product provides self-healing features. It helps to keep my instances running. If something goes wrong, the instances will be up due to the self-healing features.
In comparison to other public clouds, the product is costly.
