What is most valuable?
What I like about the Bridge is the way that you build your model with a graphical interface using UML. This model is then compiled into Java code and deployed onto the bridge server. You don't see the code. Apart from some scripting, there is no coding.
With the use of the analyze tool, you can trace the model for debugging purposes. This is very helpful.
How has it helped my organization?
I also have experience with the SAP solution for integration. This is called PI, but this solution is much more flexible.
We hooked up a new transporter from scratch in just two week using the Bridge. That is the case when you are familiar with the coding using UML.
The data exchange between the transporter and the SAP system via the Bridge was done using XML messages.
What needs improvement?
An area of improvement is the stopping and starting of services from the Bridge server console. The only way to test services on the Bridge is to have them scheduled so that they run at a specific moment in time. It is, at this time, not possible to trigger this by hand from the console. It is possible to trigger it via the analyze tool, which is used to trace the service. It would be nice to have a simple way to test services without having to schedule them.
This is no problem for a developer, but from the functional consultant point of view, the functional consultant needs to test the service and determine if it meets the requirements. It's not a big issue, but it would be nice to have.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this for about one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have not had any stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have not had any scalability issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not use any other solution before the Bridge. The change was that they switched from outsourcing development to in-house development
How was the initial setup?
If you are a traditional developer, it takes some getting used to coding using UML instead of actually writing code lines. It took me about six months to really get the hang of it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The license model is pretty good, if you compare it with other vendors’ products.
What other advice do I have?
You need someone with strong development skills and who likes a challenge.
