What is our primary use case?
My client's use case for MontyCloud DAY2 primarily focuses on enterprise workload, but some customers also engage in other workloads with MontyCloud DAY2.
When I mention enterprise workload, it involves all ERP tasks, Oracle ERP, and other crucial enterprise applications running on Oracle database on Exa.
How has it helped my organization?
We significantly reduce human error in our operations with automated workflows because we have a framework and checklist. Combining these elements reduces human error during workload migration significantly, allowing us to turn projects around much faster and complete them better, improving overall migration scale and speed.
I definitely see a positive impact on our operational overhead as human error decreases, increasing the confidence of business users and reducing testing efforts and time, with smoother migration cutovers and improved confidence in the team from both the business side and senior management technologically. Teams can handle multiple migrations simultaneously.
What is most valuable?
From my experience as a partner, integrator, and service provider, I believe the biggest advantage in MontyCloud DAY2 is that customers continue to benefit from Exadata, which is one of the best services offering the most optimal infrastructure to run Oracle database with the best possible performance. You can optimize the sizing by fifteen to thirty percent depending on the case to case basis, and all the peripheral applications and app tiers continue to run on the same cloud service provider, leading to better latency and management, functioning as single window operations.
I am also working with automated workflows, and I moved around eighteen months back to a company called LTM Limited, where we have our own tool and automated workflow, which is recommended by the respective cloud service provider alongside Oracle.
With multi-cloud support, workload orchestration becomes streamlined as I deal with just one infra provider such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, where any required support is diverted to Oracle or the respective cloud service provider, allowing for always a single point of contact.
Regarding AI initiatives, I find that AI-driven recommendation in the product helps to optimize cloud costs significantly, as it provides numerous business advantages while also optimizing cloud operations through FinOps or AI FinOps.
Concerning compliance monitoring, I would say it helps maintain regulatory guidelines, but establishing guardrails is much more crucial as compliance monitoring requires proper definitions to be effective. Otherwise, it takes time to ensure compliance.
What needs improvement?
When collecting reviews for any product, it is essential to ask about negatives as well. In terms of MontyCloud DAY2, some areas for improvement are dependent on limitations from each cloud service provider. I note that AWS has some drawbacks, and while there are limitations on Azure and GCP, specific minor features involving connectivity and integration with third-party applications need attention to improve performance and reduce latency for application to database integration.
Small issues exist concerning performance latency or needing specific versions or patches. For instance, if running on Google data, a particular Exa series is necessary, and certain patches must be employed in Azure.
As a whole, MontyCloud DAY2 itself is a comprehensive solution, but it does have its nuances that need addressing.
For how long have I used the solution?
Regarding MontyCloud DAY2, when I started using the product, I have almost twenty months of experience on Azure and fifteen months on GCP, and about eight to ten months on AWS. We have been doing it on Azure, GCP, and AWS and have migrated not just hundreds, but thousands of databases to Azure ODA, which is Oracle at Azure, that uses Exa services, among all the other services we utilize for data migration.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support from MontyCloud DAY2 is good, although improvements are necessary, especially as Oracle transitions towards AI-based support, which has created some operational challenges that need addressing.
On a scale from zero to ten, I would rate support around six and a half out of ten because while it was good, it faces several challenges lately, hence a lot of room for improvement exists.
How was the initial setup?
Installation for MontyCloud DAY2 is straightforward if pre-existing elements such as landing zones and access points are available, while setting everything up from scratch may be complex, needing specialized knowledge.
However, if conditions are met and someone experienced handles it, it is not seen as particularly complex.
What about the implementation team?
I work with MontyCloud DAY2 as a partner, service provider, and integrator.
What was our ROI?
Regarding value for money, I can provide examples of ROI as customers must ultimately make their own decisions, but I can guarantee that definite ROI exists as performance increases allow for optimizing your compute, thereby reducing costs while receiving the best infrastructure to run Oracle databases.
While I can assert you could achieve a standard reduction in costs of about fifteen to twenty percent, depending on the workload, it is possible to optimize up to fifty to fifty-five percent, and I am confidently stating that.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
From a price perspective, MontyCloud DAY2 is indeed affordable.
The reason for hesitance in decision-making is that customers must pay the one-time migration cost, which typically leads them to hesitate because it is an additional budget expense requiring cooperation between the systems integrator, cloud service provider, Oracle, and the customer.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Today, I believe there is no competition for MontyCloud DAY2 because Oracle collaborates with all other providers, although customers ultimately need to make their own call.
What other advice do I have?
MontyCloud DAY2 is specifically a cloud-based solution, but it can support on-premise applications also within the cloud environment, utilizing multi-cloud features.
Yet, you cannot run MontyCloud DAY2 on an on-premise only framework.
I rate MontyCloud DAY2 as nine out of ten as a product because there is always room for improvement.
