Oracle GoldenGate Reviews

I'm working with other Oracle products and Oracle GoldenGate on-premises. I can share my experience with Oracle GoldenGate on-premises. I have used it for several years to stream data between databases on-premises, but only from Oracle to Oracle, not from other technologies. My experience has generally been positive. In some cases, we experienced problems with compatibility related to character sets, which resulted in some issues with the output data. However, I believe those were problems related to data rather than Oracle GoldenGate itself.

Regarding Oracle GoldenGate bidirectional replication, we did not utilize bidirectional use cases. We only used it for streaming from one source to one target.

I utilized Oracle GoldenGate encryption features in only one use case, but not on-premises. We used encryption integrated for the Oracle OCI service. In that case, we enabled encryption on the source side from the on-premises side, but we do not use encryption on-premises.

I assess the benefits of real-time data transformation in Oracle GoldenGate as positive because it allows us to apply elementary transformations to the data before it is written to the target databases. From my perspective, this is positive because it helped us reduce the use of other tools for ETL, for example, Oracle Data Integrator. For our use case, we do not need to use Oracle Data Integrator because with Oracle GoldenGate, we were able to apply transformations to the data during the streaming between source and target. The benefit is the possibility to use only one tool to perform streaming and transformation of data. In some use cases, we also use Oracle GoldenGate to transform data directly using PL/SQL functions or some internal functions of Oracle GoldenGate, and introduce filters to add other aspects to the streaming of the data that allow us to use only Oracle GoldenGate without other tools before we can use the data for reporting on the target side.

Oracle GoldenGate has helped maintain synchronized databases across multiple platforms in my enterprise. My experience related to this aspect is also positive. In some cases, we had problems with some use cases, but not with the tool itself. There were use cases in which transactions were structured poorly on the source side, for example, with commits occurring many hours later. In those cases, we experienced problems because Oracle GoldenGate locks redo log and archive log, which are needed for the streaming. In some use cases, we had a source side with very long transactions, and we experienced problems on the source side because the database risked freezing. However, this was not a problem with Oracle GoldenGate. The problem was how users performed their transactions on the source side. We studied new solutions with the users to perform transactions differently and to apply commits more frequently.

Oracle GoldenGate is good, but I would like to improve it. There is a need for whoever installs and configures Oracle GoldenGate to set the correct parameters for the use cases we need to use. In some cases, we had performance problems related to the streaming because there was a lot of information to stream concurrently. However, you can tune Oracle GoldenGate to use more RAM on the source side or more processes. I think that sometimes what is missing is knowledge about the tool from the person responsible for configuration. At this moment, Oracle GoldenGate is a very good tool, and I do not know in which area we can improve it. Perhaps the debug part of the tool could be improved. In some cases, I use the utility for how Oracle GoldenGate generates messages about the statements that it streams because of bugs, and in some cases, it is not very user-friendly. It may be possible to improve the API or the path related to debugging, but not the tool itself. The tool itself is good.

I remember that in some configurations, we had problems with the streaming of DDL, which are changes to Oracle object structures such as tables and procedures. A new feature could be to perform streaming for operational objects such as procedures, functions, packages, or grants. This would synchronize source and target for these aspects, not only for data or the main types of structures, but also for others. I remember that there was some configuration in which you performed the streaming of the entire schema, or if you performed streaming for only tables, then you were unable to stream grants and other Oracle objects. I think it is important to introduce that capability.

I stopped using Oracle GoldenGate one year ago.

I'm working with other Oracle products at the moment. I do not have access to information about whether Oracle GoldenGate has reduced operational costs in my company because I changed my company and we do not use Oracle GoldenGate in my current use case.

I was an Oracle partner with my previous company, and now I work as an employee for my new company. I have a lot of Oracle certifications. I'm not working with Oracle OCI now because in the last year I did not use Oracle GoldenGate because my current company does not use it. I changed my company in March of this year.

I rate Oracle GoldenGate as eight out of ten.

We are using replication from the Paris site to the UK site, to Singapore, and the New York site as typical use cases for Oracle GoldenGate in our organization.

We need to stop the extract, modify the RPM, modify the replication RPM file, do the initial load, and restart it—these specific features of Oracle GoldenGate significantly enhance our data replication.

The real-time replication feature of the product is particularly beneficial.

I am using the graphical interface, which is very helpful for beginners. From the interface, you can check the flow, different flows, errors, and replication. You can analyze the configuration file without needing to connect to the server to find which RPM or process. The graphical interface is very helpful for beginners.

It would be helpful if we had an API for the patching and for upgrading from one version or from a build to another build in future updates of Oracle GoldenGate.

If AI was doing patching, it would be beneficial. If we could have an automatic mechanism from the interface that stopped all processes during a patch, that provides alerts before stopping the extract when we have a long transaction. Something that alerts about memory consumption, similar to the Oracle Enterprise Manager, but some process that monitors Oracle GoldenGate, the performance, and the memory consumers.

I have been using Oracle GoldenGate for two months.

We have a lot of application conflicts because the applications using Oracle GoldenGate don't know about it. In some cases, they are modifying the data in the source and in the target, leading to conflicts. The replication is abandoned, and we need to analyze why. We need to contact the team to check how to correct it manually. In some cases, if they have a huge manual modification, we need to use some resolve conflict or ignore options. It depends on the replication and configuration.

If we have a lot of problems during the replication or if we experience poor performance during the replication, the business team waiting for a result in Singapore or New York cannot work, and all reporting is stopped because the replication is taking more time or because the process is abandoned, affecting our cost savings and business efficiency.

I would rate the stability of this product a seven.

I would rate its scalability a seven.

BNP had many problems with Oracle support for the Oracle GoldenGate part.

When they ask for support or a question, they discuss it with Oracle ACS. Oracle ACS is involved in changing the support, and we have new support, but I don't know how effective it is. I heard that they speak with the new personnel from Oracle GoldenGate support, but they are not experts.

I cannot reply to this question about challenges during the integration of Oracle GoldenGate into my IT infrastructure because the team that integrated Oracle GoldenGate was previously using streams and modified all the processes to use it. They then used the microservices of Oracle GoldenGate.

I don't know how much time it took for us to deploy Oracle GoldenGate from scratch. I am a beginner with Oracle GoldenGate and would need more experience to provide this information.

I am working with Oracle GoldenGate and Oracle Exadata Cloud at Customer. I am working with Oracle GoldenGate on-premises.

I integrated with the GoldenGate team. I have done some patching for Oracle GoldenGate and I am analyzing some problems during extract or replication processing.

I am helping the team with adding tables or objects in the Oracle GoldenGate process, in the extract, and in the replication. If we have problems, I analyze them. It's related to each kind of issue, but I cannot perform installation configuration from scratch.

I cannot tell you what could be better because I am discovering the product.

I don't know how Oracle GoldenGate supports our AI-driven data analytics initiatives.

I recommend Oracle GoldenGate for users that specify the use case and know why they are using it, and do not modify the replication data because manual modifications will cause many problems.

We have to prepare for the migration to Oracle GoldenGate 23, which is a huge project for us. Two people are involved in this project, and I will work closely with the Oracle GoldenGate expert.

I rate Oracle GoldenGate a six out of ten.

I work with Oracle Engineering System, which is the platform we use to run databases and applications for customers. We provide this platform to run applications on customer premises. We also sell products like Oracle Database, Oracle Active Data Guard, and Oracle GoldenGate. For customer requirements, I create solution sizing, ensuring the database replication and redundancy needs are met by using Oracle GoldenGate.

Oracle GoldenGate is beneficial for data replication and ensures secure data transport. We use it for database redundancy, and it is crucial for the replication of data. Additionally, Active Data Guard is an important feature for disaster recovery site applications, and we use other Oracle services like Oracle Diagnostic Pack and tuning pack.

For Oracle GoldenGate, customers face challenges with patching, the latest updates, and encountering bugs. The upgrade and patching process can be difficult, and improvements in these areas would provide more comfort for customers when using Oracle GoldenGate.

I have been working with Oracle GoldenGate since 2015, which is almost nine years.

I find Oracle GoldenGate to be stable.

Oracle GoldenGate is definitely scalable.

If any issue arises on the customer side, we raise a ticket with Oracle support portal. The support team responds quickly, providing feedback which we then implement. Overall, the technical support is good.

The pricing of Oracle GoldenGate depends on the discount we receive from Oracle. If the customer orders a larger quantity, we get a more flexible price. The list price is high, and the price can sometimes seem expensive if the appropriate discount is not applied.

Previously, I used DataPump for data transfer as a part of restoration or migration exercises. I switched to Oracle GoldenGate for its real-time data capabilities between two different platforms, Solaris and Linux.

The setup depends on the size of the database, however, it typically should not take more than a few days to complete, including configuration and all steps.

The implementation involved myself and Oracle support. From my side, I was the main person handling the project.

The pricing of Oracle GoldenGate is quite high. However, its cost-effectiveness stems from its unique features that are not commonly available in other products. Still, it is not cheap, and I would rate its cost-effectiveness as six out of ten.

I considered using Oracle GoldenGate primarily. Before that, I used DataPump.

Overall, I would rate Oracle GoldenGate an eight out of ten. 

It integrates seamlessly with existing infrastructure, especially within the same company ecosystem, which makes it a recommendable product.

The solution is used for real-time data replication in our environment across RDBMS databases like SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, and SAP HANA. We also use it for Zero Downtime Migration. When an application has to run 24/7, we set up the application to a new server and a new database and keep it active 24/7.

The product is reliable for data integrity. We haven't had any data loss issues. The product does what it is supposed to do. It performs real-time replication without data loss. Most of our replication is unidirectional. When there are bidirectional replications, we use conflict detection and resolution. We can use the tool to define that one database has more priority on certain applications and another on others.

Microservices Architecture is not user-friendly. It would have been great if the product would have stayed with the classic architecture and expanded into Microservices. However, it has completely moved away to Microservices. We can't use the same commands or scripts we had on the classic architecture. We have to redo everything.

I have been using the solution for the last ten years.

I rate the tool’s stability a seven out of ten.

The tool’s scalability is pretty good, but we cannot do much automation. We have to do a lot of things manually.

The support has a lot of room for improvement. The support team hardly provides support when we create tickets. We manage and find the issue ourselves. The team needs engineers who are willing to fix the issue. The support persons usually push tickets back and forth.

We have used Streams. We had a lot of network latency in Streams. All the applications went to one pipeline. With GoldenGate, we can create multiple pipelines.

The setup with the classic GoldenGate architecture was easy. Oracle has now moved to Microservices Architecture. It is a real pain. There are a lot of new things we have to learn. I rate the ease of setup of the classic architecture a seven out of ten. For Microservices, I rate the ease of setup a three out of ten.

The deployment takes a couple of hours. We need one system administrator to deploy the tool. We need to maintain the tool. We are a team of four people. We need at least three people for maintenance. The time taken for maintenance depends on how big the environment is. We spend a lot of time on maintenance because our environment is big.

Overall, I rate the product a seven out of ten.

The key consideration in use case was determining if the solution performs better with Oracle databases compared to other database options. I played a role in evaluating both options to determine the most sensible choice.

One notable improvement the organization experienced is a significant reduction in response time and minimal delay in the Oracle database.

The live application feature is most valuable.

Regarding improvements, the focus should be on addressing data quality issues and minimizing delays, particularly in Oracle databases. The technical support should be improved as well. Additionally, in terms of features, it would be great if the solution could support APIs.

I have been using this solution for the past one and a half years.

The solution is stable. I rate it a seven out of ten.

The support is not friendly. They don’t respond on time.

The deployment of Oracle Golden Gate is handled by the Oracle team. On boarding resources, such as administrators, is a requirement for the client, which may be complex for them. However, for us, it is not complex as it is not under our control.

The price is high. Consequently, when clients or customers acquire the solution, they tend to utilize it to its maximum extent due to this factor.

Exploring other more compatible databases could be an alternative. If a versatile solution is sought with many sources, including various databases and servers, there may be better choices than starting with Oracle GoldenGate. However, opinions on this matter may vary, and I might be mistaken in certain cases.

We use the product to replicate data between bank systems in an enterprise environment, such as Internet banking or core systems.

The platform's most helpful features are its speed and its guarantee of data replication from one database to another.

The solution sometimes has issues with long transactions and replication delays. Its pricing needs improvement.

I have used Oracle GoldenGate for a couple of different scenarios. One client wanted to keep their main database secure, so we set up GoldenGate to replicate data in a separate environment for reporting purposes. This allowed users to query the replicated data without directly accessing the main database. Another client needed real-time access to historical data without active data guards, so we implemented GoldenGate to enable querying of archived data from both Oracle and non-Oracle sources. 

The most valuable feature of Oracle GoldenGate is its cost-effectiveness compared to other solutions like Oracle Data Guard, especially for Oracle-to-non-Oracle replication scenarios. Secondly, its versatility in supporting data replication across different operating systems and platforms is highly valuable, making it the go-to tool for heterogeneous environments.

In the future, I would appreciate a more user-friendly monitoring interface for easier management and troubleshooting. I believe enhancing the monitoring tools would make GoldenGate even more efficient.

Its monitoring features detect issues promptly, minimizing downtime. Overall, GoldenGate provides reliable real-time data integration, enhancing business processes efficiently.

In one organization, we employed Oracle GoldenGate for data replication. We opted for a three-way setup to integrate data between source and target databases without directly impacting either side. Placing an intermediary server between the source and target, we configured GoldenGate parameters. This allowed data to flow from the source to the intermediary server and then to the target, meeting our specific requirements. Depending on cost considerations, we sometimes chose a simpler two-way replication directly from source to target. 

The conflict detection and resolution feature of Oracle GoldenGate ensures that data replication tasks are executed seamlessly without any conflicts. This results in a flawless data replication process for customers, leading to a positive experience without any complaints or issues related to data consistency or integrity.

I would recommend considering Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data replication, especially if cost is a factor compared to DataGuard. Additionally, GoldenGate is easier to manage with the right technical expertise. Training the team on managing it can streamline operations and provide business advantages.

We use it for a project involving data integration from two distinct sources within our factory. One source was an Oracle database, while the other was a MySQL database. Additionally, we incorporated data from a cloud-based Teradata system that Oracle had acquired. Our task involved configuring the data to create a unified data warehouse.

It's an incredible tool, as it's quite impressive to construct the gateway. The process is surprisingly quick, and it has been around for a considerable period. I would say it operates seamlessly, eliminating the necessity for any data transformation or Excel-related tasks. You can simply input the data and retrieve it effortlessly. The gateway allows for easy management, providing clear insights. It's truly reliable and stands out as an excellent tool.

One feature that stands out for me is the data center capability. Leveraging Azure servers, we can effortlessly synchronize data between servers, whether it's from one source to another. This is done seamlessly without the need for additional configurations, just a simple pump to facilitate the process. Another noteworthy feature is its adaptability to changes in the source, such as the addition of a new column or details in Oracle. There's no necessity to modify subsequent processes; a service adjustment suffices, streamlining the workflow. Its reliability is commendable, and maintenance is both straightforward and efficient. Additionally, it facilitates customization for specific market needs. Overall, it is not only user-friendly but also easy to comprehend in various aspects.

Having a graphical interface would greatly enhance the tool. A clean and user-friendly graphical interface based on common design principles would be beneficial. While the current interface is functional, incorporating a more visually intuitive design, perhaps inspired by widely used interfaces, would make it even more straightforward. Looking ahead to future releases, there are specific features I'd appreciate having. One such feature is the incorporation of pipelines, similar to those in Java, for seamless integration. Additionally, configuring for the Amazon Cloud is currently not straightforward; it often requires adding Python code to customize integrations. I would like to see an enhancement in this aspect, making the configuration process more straightforward and less reliant on intricate coding, particularly during meetings or collaborative sessions.

I have been using it for two and a half years.

The tool is generally highly reliable, although its performance is contingent on the specific environment it operates in. For instance, if the environment is not adequately configured or lacks necessary prerequisites, the tool's reliability may be compromised.

I would rate the scalability capabilities ten out of ten.

Initially, it was deployed on-premise, but due to privacy concerns, we switched to the cloud as well.

The tool has proven to be a time and cost-saving solution. It is effective for current needs and is particularly valuable if you have a significant budget, say, a hundred thousand dollars. The return on investment would make it a worthwhile deal.

I would certainly recommend it. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

We use Oracle GoldenGate for homogeneous and heterogeneous data migration.

The solution supports large-volume databases. Since the world is going towards open source, the solution's heterogeneous data migration feature is very useful. The solution is helpful as the databases need to be available as DC and DR.

The solution's licensing price is very expensive and could be made more competitive. If I want to convert an Oracle database to a Postgres database, the schema conversion and the database transformation do not happen since it is purely a replication tool. It would be helpful if the solution could include features wherein databases can be converted from open source to Oracle and Oracle to open source.

I have been using Oracle GoldenGate for three years.

Oracle GoldenGate is a stable solution.

Oracle GoldenGate is a scalable solution that manages a large volume of data. Oracle GoldenGate is extensively used in our organization.

We implemented the solution through an in-house team. We have a large DBA team comprising 10 to 15 people with various database skills who deploy the solution for us.

With Oracle GoldenGate, our technical use cases of DR (disaster recovery) have been met.

We pay a yearly licensing fee for Oracle GoldenGate, which is very expensive.

I am using the latest version of Oracle GoldenGate. Oracle GoldenGate is a suitable solution for people seeking a scalable, robust data transformation platform.
