A tool with a user-friendly UI that needs to offer lower price options to users
Pros and Cons
  • "Alteryx Designer's user interface is great, as it is very user-friendly."
  • "The major concern in Alteryx Designer stems from the high costs attached to the product."

What is our primary use case?

My use case related to Alteryx Designer begins when, in my company, we need our output data in Excel only. One of the use cases of the tool stems during times when you want to do some data manipulation or automation by connecting Alteryx Designer with APIs and by using a lot of tools to turn your raw data into finished data to get the final data in the form of structured tables in Excel. In our company, when we don't need any sort of Excel output, we use other tools like Power BI to prepare the dashboard. When in our company, we need output in Excel only, then we use Alteryx Designer.

What is most valuable?

Alteryx Designer's user interface is great, as it is very user-friendly. Alteryx Designer's drag-and-drop options are also one of its good features.

What needs improvement?

The major concern in Alteryx Designer stems from the high costs attached to the product. I know people who want to use Alteryx Designer, but paying around 5,000 USD for the license makes it a very costly product. The price of the product should go down. In general, the product is good.

I think that right now, if in our company, we have to prepare some interactive dashboards, then we have to link Alteryx Designer with Tableau or Power BI. Even though Alteryx Designer allows you to prepare charts and other such stuff, they don't turn out to be great. If Alteryx Designer can improve the data visualization part and allow for the visualization of data in the form of a dashboard in the tool itself, then it would be a great value addition.

The technical support team of Alteryx Designer takes time to respond, making it a shortcoming of the product that requires improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with Alteryx Designer for two and a half years.

Powerful tool for cleansing, formatting, and transforming data – especially unstructured files
Pros and Cons
  • "When you open a raw Excel file, it can be hard to look at everything in detail. Alteryx makes it much easier to go through the data, summarize it, and use different tools for analysis."
  • "The only thing is sometimes it can be a bit slow."

What is our primary use case?

I use it for data preparation, mainly cleaning raw data.

How has it helped my organization?

When you open a raw Excel file, it can be hard to look at everything in detail. Alteryx makes it much easier to go through the data, summarize it, and use different tools for analysis. So, Alteryx Designer have significantly reduced the time I spend on data analysis tasks.

Moreover, the drag-and-drop interface of Alteryx Designer improved our overall workflow.

What is most valuable?

Alteryx is a very powerful tool for cleansing, formatting, and transforming data – especially unstructured files. I'm happy with the features as they are.

It is easy to view data in Alteryx Designer. It's not overly complicated.

What needs improvement?

The only thing is sometimes it can be a bit slow.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for three years. It's only installed on my local computer.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I haven't experienced any problems. It's actually very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Most people who use SQL also use Alteryx for data analysis, so probably around 600 people use it in my company.

What about the implementation team?

We don't install it ourselves. Our support team handles the installation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is bit expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Alteryx has built-in guidance within the tool. If you hover over any tool, it will explain how to use it. There's no need to consult someone else to get started.

Also, there are helpful learning resources or documentation available.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Ensures data protection and offers excellent scalability
Pros and Cons
  • "For my daily analytics needs, the entire Alteryx Designer platform is beneficial."
  • "Its cost can sometimes be a drawback."

What is our primary use case?

My main use for Alteryx Designer is automating routine daily tasks by creating predefined workflows that run on databases. I use it primarily for data preparation, blending, and simplifying complex tasks into streamlined processes.

What is most valuable?

I find Alteryx Designer's versatility and variety of tools valuable for my use cases. Specifically, I have found the time series analysis tool and the formula tool quite useful because they are versatile and allow me to manipulate and analyze data effectively. For my daily analytics needs, the entire Alteryx Designer platform is beneficial.

What needs improvement?

While Alteryx Designer is a great product overall, its cost can sometimes be a drawback.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Alteryx Designer for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of the product as an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of Alteryx Designer as a four out of ten. While it is good for cloud usage, the limitation of one license per Designer restricts scalability, requiring additional licenses for more users.

How are customer service and support?

The tech support for Alteryx is quite good. When we encounter issues, we email them and typically receive a prompt reply within a day or two.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before choosing Alteryx Designer, we evaluated other options including open-source software like Orange. However, we opted for Alteryx because it offered enhanced security, a wide range of features including predictive analytics tools, and the potential for future use as our analytics needs evolve.

How was the initial setup?

I would rate the easiness of the initial setup as a six out of ten. Setting up Alteryx Designer initially can be challenging because it is typically handled by the IT team, leaving me with limited control as an end user.

Deploying Alteryx Designer took about a week overall, with the initial setup taking around a month, including procurement. However, the installation itself was quick, taking just a few days. As an end user, my involvement mainly consisted of convincing management of the need for the software, while the IT team handled procurement and installation.

What was our ROI?

I would rate the return on investment from working with Alteryx as close to 100% since it has significantly helped the business.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would rate the pricing of Alteryx Designer as an eight out of ten in terms of costliness. Licensing costs vary based on negotiation and increase with the number of licenses needed. There are no additional costs for features or services; you choose from bundled packages based on your needs.

What other advice do I have?

The drag-and-drop interface in Alteryx Designer makes workflow creation quick and easy, boosting my productivity.

The learning curve for new users of Alteryx Designer depends on their background knowledge. Since we haven't added many new users, there hasn't been a significant increase in usage or users. It mainly involves users with existing knowledge, but there is room for improvement in onboarding new users.

My advice for new users would be to clearly define your use cases and requirements before implementing Alteryx Designer. Map out the features you need to solve those use cases and determine if the software aligns with your needs.

Overall I would rate Alteryx Designer as a seven out of ten.

A reliable and user-friendly solution for analytics
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is user-friendly."
  • "When configuring the Logix, the UA could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for file loading and occasional API integration. While I have experience working with APIs, there are specific use cases that I still need to implement. My projects have involved some data cleansing, although it hasn't been complex.

What is most valuable?

The solution is user-friendly. Even non-tech users familiar with tools like Excel can quickly get started. Compared to the more complex tools I've used, it's quite user-friendly. Setting up connections is straightforward, and you can create tables easily. So, I can assure you that it's more user-friendly, especially for power users or business professionals looking to perform analytics.

What needs improvement?

There are a few areas where the solution could be improved. When configuring the Logix, the UA could be improved. Column-to-column mapping can be challenging when integrating from source to target. While designed to be user-friendly, the UI-level configurations could use some enhancements. In my experience using the trial version, I couldn't access detailed configurations like deep table access for updates or inserts in the UI. Additionally, scrolling with the mouse sometimes triggers selecting other filters. There is also a need for more documentation and support, especially when dealing with complex API-level tasks. Overall, there's room for improvement at the UI level.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for the past two months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The choice to use Alteryx Designer was a business decision made by our engineering managers, not my personal choice. Those in leadership positions preferred Alteryx Designer because it was user-friendly, and manageable, allowing them to oversee the process easily. They also favor this tool because they can understand it well and want to assess numerous complex proof of concept (POC) use cases. Alteryx makes it possible for them to achieve this. I've noticed that managers, in particular, are more drawn to Alteryx Designer than other information tools because it enables them to perform some basic analytics.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have worked with Informatica PowerCenter.

What other advice do I have?

The solution is easy-to-use and a great platform for analytics. I rate it an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A stable solution used for ETL data integration, but its pricing and support could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "I like Alteryx Designer's drag-and-drop feature, where you drag a component, configure it and quickly run it."
  • "Alteryx Designer's pricing and support could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I use Alteryx Designer mostly for ETL data integration.

What is most valuable?

I like Alteryx Designer's drag-and-drop feature, where you drag a component, configure it and quickly run it.

What needs improvement?

Alteryx Designer's pricing and support could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx Designer for around five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Alteryx Designer is a very stable solution. I rate Alteryx Designer a nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Around 15 users use Alteryx Designer in our organization. I rate Alteryx Designer a seven out of ten for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

If I have an issue with Alteryx Designer, I can go online to get a resolution from the solution's community group. I am very satisfied with Alteryx Designer's online community group, which is quite active and good.

How was the initial setup?

Alteryx Designer's initial setup is not difficult. I rate Alteryx Designer a seven out of ten for its ease of initial setup.

What about the implementation team?

It took me a few hours to install Alteryx Designer on my laptop and configure my data sources.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate Alteryx Designer a six out of ten for pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I use the latest version of Alteryx Designer.

I recommend Alteryx Designer to other users.

Valuable features have helped my organization
Pros and Cons
  • "The features I found most valuable are the preparation features – the Join and the Transform."
  • "I would like to be able to include small snippets of code inside of the solution. The tool has only drag-and-drop features to make it easy to use, but sometimes I feel like this makes it more complicated."

What is our primary use case?

I use Alteryx Designer as an ETL for extracting data, transforming it in my flow, cleaning it up, joining it with other data sources, and then applying it to my business logic, which envisages a Tableau dashboard.

How has it helped my organization?

The way that Alteryx Designer has helped our organization is by helping us connect to various data sources, extract the data, join it (because it comes from different sources) clean it, and then apply a logic where I have to look up a few other text files if I need to. I then push the data to either a Vertica or Alteryx database or to just a simple Excel file that I can share with my team, my co-workers, and my business users.

What is most valuable?

The features I found most valuable are the preparation features – the Join and the Transform. I haven't used Alteryx as a data science tool. I haven't used the predictive, and the prescriptive features of Crystal. All that I have used are documentation and transform features and I have used this mostly as an ETL tool, not as a data science tool.

What needs improvement?

I would like to be able to include small snippets of code inside of the solution. The tool has only drag-and-drop features to make it easy to use, but sometimes I feel like this makes it more complicated. For example, even with a small calculation, I need to do four drag-and-drops, which makes the tool and workflow look very complex. I would be happy with the ability to run a small SQL query or Python script.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx for over four years now.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability of this solution a seven out of ten, with one being not scalable at all and 10 being very scalable.

How are customer service and support?

I didn't have much experience with Alteryx support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very straightforward. The deployment took a couple of hours and we did it in-house with two people. We just applied for the license, downloaded the software, installed it, and started using it.

What was our ROI?

We have seen a positive ROI as we just bought it as an ETL tool.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My advice is if you're looking for just a simple ETL tool, then this is a good solution for you.

What other advice do I have?

There are about 30 to 35 users of this solution in our company and we are not planning on expanding because we are moving to a code-based solution and Alteryx is more for people who are not into coding.

In general, I would rate Alteryx Designer solution an eight out of ten, with one being bad and 10 being excellent.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

A tool that offers a codeless approach to develop solutions easily
Pros and Cons
  • "Alteryx Designer is a tool that is pretty much easy to install."
  • "The price of the product is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required."

What is our primary use case?

I use Alteryx Designer to create ETL and data transformation flows.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of the solution is its drag-and-drop functionality, so it is a codeless process, which is something I love. I can create container flows, which are very easily maintained and updated when needed.

What needs improvement?

I have been thinking a lot lately about the standalone nature of Designer since it only provides a desktop version of Alteryx, because of which there is no collaboration or automation possible with Designer. I would like to see more collaboration and automation features in the product. Collaboration and automation features are available at ten times the price of the standard Alteryx Designer, making it a very expensive tool. The price of the product is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx Designer for three years. I use the solution's latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution an eight to nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a five out of ten since it is a product that only one user can use at a time.

In my company, there are only three uses of Alteryx Designer, but I deal with our company's clients, which goes up to around 50 users.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is responsive, but there are some delays at times. I rate the technical support a six or seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with IBM SPSS Modeler and the management tools in SQL from Microsoft.

I have experience with IBM SPSS Modeler and the management tools in SQL from Microsoft. The codeless approach in developing solutions offered by Alteryx Designer is the reason why my company chose it over IBM SPSS Modeler and Microsoft.

How was the initial setup?

Alteryx Designer is a tool that is pretty much easy to install. With Alteryx Designer, the only complexities are related to the security policies of our company's customers. What makes the installation phase of Alteryx Designer is the security policies of our company's customers and the product's installation part alone.

Alteryx Designer's installation part can be completed in a few hours.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Alteryx Designer is an affordable solution to purchase, but it gets expensive if you try to scale up or collaborate with other solutions. There are no additional costs apart from the standard licensing fees of the solution since, to create a solution, you need to buy more than one license from Designer. It is easy to buy one license from Designer, but then you need to buy more, which makes it quite expensive.

I rate the price of Alteryx Designer as a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is extremely expensive, and ten is a highly cheap product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Microsoft Azure is one of the competitors of Alteryx Designer. Microsoft Azure ML or Databricks were the options we evaluated in our company against Alteryx Designer.

What other advice do I have?

I take care of Alteryx Designer's maintenance part for my company's clients, along with four data engineers.

I recommend Alteryx Designer to those who plan to use it.

I rate the overall product a seven to eight out of ten.

A highly stable solution that can be used for multi-data prep, aggregation, and transformation
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Alteryx Designer is its ability to select all the inputs and formulas."
  • "Alteryx Designer's cost should be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I use Alteryx Designer for multi-data prep, aggregation, and transformation.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Alteryx Designer is its ability to select all the inputs and formulas.

What needs improvement?

Alteryx Designer's cost should be improved.

Alteryx Designer should add an intelligence suite and machine learning suite to its base products.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx Designer for about six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Alteryx Designer ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate Alteryx Designer a five out of ten for scalability primarily because of the cost.

What was our ROI?

We have seen a return on investment with Alteryx Designer.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate Alteryx Designer an eight out of ten.

Good data integration, data pipeline creation, and the ability to connect to multiple data sources
Pros and Cons
  • "I believe in the ability to connect to multiple data sources, as well as the ease of use to transform data and output data in a variety of formats."
  • "Yes, there is a return on investment."
  • "It would be simpler if they provided a component where you could simply enter some parameters and see the results."
  • "The data engineering and integration need to be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Alteryx Designer to build data integration. Alteryx allows you to connect to multiple data sources. It also connects with some tools natively to capture metadata.

How has it helped my organization?

It's a powerful tool because you can use it to create data integrations. If you want to use it as a data engineering tool, you can even create some data pipelines there. As I previously stated, I have only used it for a short time, but you can also create Python scripts there.

What is most valuable?

I believe in the ability to connect to multiple data sources, as well as the ease of use to transform data and output data in a variety of formats.

What needs improvement?

The data engineering and integration need to be improved.

I'm not sure if it already exists, but it could include some components that allow you to simply connect to the API's endpoint and consume it. To do it today, I would have to use Python components and develop it through a script.

It would be simpler if they provided a component where you could simply enter some parameters and see the results.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Alteryx Designer for three months.

We are working with version 2022.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Alteryx Designer is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I believe that Alteryx Designer is scalable.

Because I work for a consulting firm, we have a large number of people who work on it. I'd estimate that maybe 50 people use this.

We do have plans to increase our usage.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted technical support.  I called my colleagues for assistance.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used to use SAS Guide a long time ago.

How was the initial setup?

As I have never had to configure it on the server side, I am not sure how complicated it is, and I don't know how many people you need to deploy and maintain it. However, as a developer, it is very simple because it is on a desktop. You simply install and begin using it.

What was our ROI?

Yes, there is a return on investment. The clients are very pleased with this solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not aware of the pricing.

What other advice do I have?

When considering bringing some pipelines, I would recommend that you always look at Alteryx Designer. If you just want to integrate some tools or solutions, Alteryx can help.

I would rate Alteryx Designer an eight out of ten.

Helps to save time with manual finance processes
Pros and Cons
  • "We use Alteryx Designer for analytics. It's quite helpful because once we set it up, we don't have to manually update or process data repeatedly. It saves time, especially for financial reporting, which is typically done monthly or quarterly. Once we set it up initially, we only need to make occasional updates if necessary."
  • "Based on my experience, the tool could be improved by providing sample reports or pre-configured workflows tailored to specific industries, like finance. It needs to integrate an AI chatbot as well."

What is our primary use case?

My company specializes in financial consulting, and we primarily use the product for finance-related processes.

What is most valuable?

We use Alteryx Designer for analytics. It's quite helpful because once we set it up, we don't have to manually update or process data repeatedly. It saves time, especially for financial reporting, which is typically done monthly or quarterly. Once we set it up initially, we only need to make occasional updates if necessary.

Several features are valuable in Alteryx Designer, especially for tasks like deal remitting in the banking industry. We often use tools for transforming data and calculating rates. Additionally, we frequently create multiple columns within our workflows to meet various requirements.

The tool's interface is easy to use. We utilize it to some extent for predictive analytics. However, people tend to double-check and manually monitor the results closely.

What needs improvement?

Based on my experience, the tool could be improved by providing sample reports or pre-configured workflows tailored to specific industries, like finance. It needs to integrate an AI chatbot as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't faced any issues with the stability of the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool's scalability an eight out of ten. My company has four users.

How are customer service and support?

We haven't needed to engage with Alteryx Designer's technical support yet. We're at an early stage of implementation and haven't encountered any major issues requiring their assistance. If needed, we would certainly reach out to them for support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In terms of competitors, AWS Data Pipelines is one option that offers similar analytics and workflow capabilities. However, their services might be a better fit if the data primarily resides in AWS. Similarly, Microsoft also provides comparable features.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process for Alteryx Designer is simple. It usually doesn't require technical assistance, and it can be done by a single person.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the product's pricing a two to three out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
